12 Knowing the Key s Key Function Power Key Press and hold to turn on or off aeropl ane mode, e nable silent mode, vibration mode or so und, or to power off. Press to switch your phone to sleep mode or wake i t up . V olume Key Press or hold to turn the vol ume up or down.
13 CAUTION: To avoid damage to the phone, ple ase do no t use other kinds of SIM card s, and do not use a non-standard micro-SIM card cut fro m a SIM car d. You ca n get the standard mi cro-SIM card from your service pr ovider. 3. Align th e back cover w ith the back of the phone and pre ss th e cover bac k into place.

17 Setting Up for the Firs t T im e When you first pow er on your pho ne after you purcha se it or reset it to factory setting s (see Back up & reset ), you need to do some settin gs before us ing it. Flick the languag e field to select the language and touch .
18 2. Touch and h old any blan k area of the screen. NOTE: If you have se t an unlock pat tern, PIN or passw ord for your phone (see Protec ting Your Ph one With a Screen Lo ck ), you’ll need to draw the pattern or enter the PIN /passw ord to unlock your screen.
19 In some app s (such as Map s, Brow s er , and Gallery), you can zoom in and out by placing two fingers on the scree n at once a nd pin ching th em toge ther (to z oom out) or spreading them apar t (to zoo m in).

24 Protecting Y our Phon e With a Screen Lock You can pro tect your ph one by cre ating a screen lock. When enabled, you need to tou ch and hold the screen , draw a pattern, or enter a n umeric PIN or a passw or d to unloc k the screen and keys. 1. Touch Home Key > > Settings > Secu rity .
25 touch FORG OT PATTERN to sign in to the Google Account you have added on the ph one and r eset the screen lock. You need an active Inter net connection.

27 Knowing the Basic s Monitoring the Phone St atus The status bar at the top of the home screen provide s phone an d service sta tus icons o n the right side .
28 Managing Notificati ons Notification Icons The sta tus bar at the top of the home s creen provides notificatio n icons on the left. Below are some of the icon s you may see.
29 bottom of the screen or touch Back Key . Respond to or Remov e a Notification In the notifi cation panel , you can respond to a notifica tion or remove the notification s. The notifi cation panel also supports expandable notifications that let you perform addi tional ac tions right from t he notificatio n itself.

32 Organizing W ith Folders Yo u can cre ate folder s on the home screen and add several shortcuts to a folder . Rename a Folder 1. Touch a folder to open i t. 2. Touch the folder name field and enter a new nam e. Add Shortcuts to a Folder 1. Touch and hold a s hortcu t and then drag it onto a fo lder icon .
33 Entering T ext You can ent er text using the on screen keyboa rd. Some apps open it auto matically. In others, you open it by touching w here you w ant to type. You can also enter text by spe aking w ith the Google voi ce typing feat ure . You can clo se the keyboar d by tou ching .

35 Touch to use Google voice typing. Touch and h old t o cha nge the inpu t language s or set up the Android keyboard. T ouchPal Keyboard TouchPal Keyboard offers three layo uts: T26 , T 12 and T+ . You can touch to select a lay out or an i nput language .
36 The alphabe tic keys: Touc h the keys to enter let ters. Touch a key and slide d ow n to enter the nu mber or s ymbol on the key . You can als o touch and hold a key and slide to choose more characters . The capital key: Touch to use upperca se or low ercase.
37 The T12 Lay out The layout is similar to a phone pad in T12 mode. Touch an alphab etic key re peatedly until the de sired letter appears. You can also touch and hol d the key an d slide lef t or ri ght to choo se the letter or nu mber you need . If word predi ction is enable d ( ), just touch the keys on ce and choo se the right w ord.
38 Touch to enter the left letter on t he key; Double-tap or flick right to enter the rig ht letter/sy mbol on the k ey. You can also touch a nd hold a key and slide lef t or right to choose mor e letters and symbols. If word predi ction is enable d ( ), just touch the keys an d choose the right w ord.

Google V oice T yping Google Vo ice typing u ses the Googl e voice r ecognitio n servi ce to convert spee ch to tex t. You mus t have a da ta connec tion on a mobile or Wi-Fi netw ork to use it.

52 Send Data via Bluetooth 1. Open the appr opriate ap plication an d select the file or ite m you w ant to share. 2. Select the option for s haring via Bl uetooth . The method may vary by appli cation and data type . 3. Touch a Blu etooth de vice the phone has pai red w ith or wait for it to sear ch for new dev ices an d touch one of them.

54 Disconnect Y our Phone From the Computer To disconne ct the phone from the computer, simply unplu g the USB cable w hen you’re finished. Remove the microSD HC Card From Y our Phone If you need to re move the microSD HC card w hile the phone is on , you should un mount it first.

60 Answering or Rej ecting Calls When you r eceive a phone call, the Incoming Ca ll scree n opens, displaying the Caller ID or the inform ation abou t the caller tha t you've enter ed in People . You can answ er or reject the call, or reject it w it h a text mes sage.
