1 Introduction T his advanced scanner is a proud to be among the world's first dual- laser pre - sentation scanners, and it incorporates numerous record-breaking features.

are sure your POS system can handle the load, it is re commended that you use the supplied power adapter . When an external adapter is connected , the scan- ner does not take power from the host. The scanner turns on when power is supplied, and turns off when power is remove d.
2. Ins ert the 8-pin modular plug of the power link cable into the “host” connec- tor in the back o f the scanner until a firm click is heard. 3. Plug the power ad apter into th e jack on the power link cable. (See Fi gure 1.) 4. Plug the AC end of the power adapter into an AC outlet.
Mounting Plate Installation 1. Position the mounting plate in the desired location and secure it in place. If desired, use the full-size boring templa te in Figure 6 on page 21 .
Auxiliary Handheld S canner Connection (optional) The scanner support s the operation of an auxiliary hand held scanne r , which may be connected via a 10-pin RS-232 modular plug to the connector marked “aux” in the back of the scanner .
4.4 Connecting to the Host The power link interface cable com es with di fferent host-end connectors , depending on the host. Fo llow the steps below to connect the interface cable to the host. 1. Make sure that the power of th e host system is of f. 2.
4.6 Connecting to EAS System (Optional) To install an EAS, the deactivator must be equipped with EAS connector. Make sure that the power of the EAS syste m is off. 1. 5 Setting Up the Scanner In some cases no setup is r equired. The scanner is eithe r pre programmed t o suit the situation, or it auto detects and i s ready to go. In other ca ses the scan- ner must be informed about what kind of syste m it is connec ted to.
6 Operation T he scanner can read barcodes in either sweep or presentation mode to accommodate different requirement s. Sweep mode means moving items through the scan volume. Left to right, right to left, top to bottom, bottom to top, etc. are all okay .

12 6.5 Controlling the Sca nner from a POS System The scanner can be co ntrolled from the POS system via th e RS-232C interface. Control can be accomplished by transmitting the following sin gle-byte com- mands to the scanner .
7 Maintaining the Scanner T he scanner is designe d for long-term tr ouble-free operation an d rarely needs any maintenance. Only an occasional cleaning of the scanner window is neces- sary in order to remove dirt and fingerprin ts.

1 1 T r oubleshooting Problem Diagnostic T ip s The scanner window is dirty . C lean the scan- er window as described in the Mainten ance section. n The presented barcode type is no t enabled. Use the Programming Guide to tell the scan- ner to accept that type of ba rcode.
19 Problem Diagnostic T ip s The communication cable is not connec ted to the correct port of your POS system. Refer to the manu al of your POS system to locate the serial port. The communication settings of the system and scanne r do not match. Ad just the set- tings so they match.
