This product utilizes batteries or an external power supply (adapter). DO NOT connect this product to any power supply or adapter other than one described in the manual, on the name plate, or specifically recommended by Yamaha.
• Use only the stand/rack specified for the instrument. When attaching the stand or rack, use the provided screws only. Failure to do so could cause damage to the internal components or result in the instrument falling over.

12 ■ Connecting a Mixer or A udio Equipment Connecting the OUTPUT L/MONO and R jacks on the rear of the DTXPRESS to a mixer or audio equipment allows for audio re- production through e xter nal speakers or the recording of your per- formance. • Using speaker s with b uilt-in amplifiers.
13 ■ Connecting a CD Play er , etc. (A UX IN jac k) The audio output from a CD player or cassette deck connected to the A UX IN jack (stereo mini) on the fr ont panel can be mix ed with the sound of the DTXPRESS and transmitted via the output jacks on the rear panel.

Change the instrument volume for eac h pad. • Hold the [SHIFT] b utton and rotate the Click V OL knob to adjust the volume of the Bass Drum.
17 Play the DTXPRESS along with the metr onome . Tr y out the Gr oo ve Check Function to c heck your rh ythmic accuracy . 2. Use the Groove Check Function As you pla y the pads, the DTXPRESS’ Groo ve Check func- tion will check y our rh ythmic accuracy and display the re- sults.
18 The DTXPRESS has a total of 95 preset songs that are good for rhythm practice. Tr y and pla y along with a song. W hile setting the Rhythm Mute, a “ ˚ ” will be displa yed at the end of the song name. Play Along with a Song 1. Select a Song Select one of the DTXPRESS’ songs and listen to it.
19 7. Chang e the Clic k V oice W hen the click v oice r esemb les v oices that are f ound in the song it might be hard to hear . In this case it is a g ood idea to change the click v oice. •W e will use the factor y set 4-bea t click voice (a high and lo w bell v oice) as an example her e.
20 Next, let’ s try recording y our performance to the DTXPRESS’ sequencer . With song data you record y ou can s witch drum kits, change the tempo and playback in the same way as preset songs. * When there is data in the other track, the number of mea- sures in that track will determine the length of the song.
21 ● When the Record Mode is set to Replace (“ Rpl ”). The follo wing display will appear w hile r ecor ding (only dis- played, cannot be changed). 5. Redo the Recor ding To r ecor d again, use the following procedure to clear pre vi- ously r ecorded da ta in the tr ack, then try r ecording a gain.
22 Y ou can assign v oices you like to each of the pads, and set the tuning (pitc h), voice, decay , re verb, etc. to create your o wn original drum kit. 2. T r y Changing the V olume Let’s c hang e the volume of the dr um voice that is deli v ered w hen the pad is hit.
23 Use the [SEL < ]/[SEL > ] b uttons to move the f lashing cursor to the decay value position, then use the [V ALUE–]/[V ALUE+] b uttons to set the amount of decay . A + (plus) v alue will produce a faster decay . 6. Tr y Changing the Character of the V oice (Filter Setting).

28 The T one Generator is sounded according to the Drum Maps f or each of the Dr um Kits • Each Preset Drum Kit has its own Drum Map • User Drum Kits No. 49-80 use a common (one) Dr um Map . DTXPRESS Internal Makeup ■ The DTXPRESS’ Internal Signal Flow Sequencer data from a computer or an external MIDI device.
29 ● T one Generator The DTXPRESS’ tone generator contains a total of 910 drum and percussion voices. Pr eset Drum Kits use an exclusi v e Drum Kit Ma p for each kit in w hich voices for the kit are assigned to individual MIDI note n um- bers. The User Drum Kit uses one drum map (User Drum Map) that is common for all dr um kit number s 49-80.
30 This mode enables you to pla y the DTXPRESS drum v oices by hitting the pads (or drums with trig g er sen- sors attached) connected to the DTXPRESS. The DTXPRESS automatically enters this mode when the power is switched on. Y ou can select and pla y from 48 preset drum kits and 32 user kits.

32 The DTXPRESS can internally store data for a maximum of 127 songs tha t can be pla yed bac k freely . Song numbers 1-95 are preset songs and song data in those songs cannot be changed or rewritten. Song numbers 96-127 are user songs that can be used to record new performance data and also edit song data in.
33 ■ P ad Song Playbac k (Start/Stop) To playback a P ad Song , hit the pad that is assigned to the Pad Song y ou w ant to playbac k. Hit the same pad during playback will stop the song.
34 Song Recording Song recording lets you record data, produced as the drum kit is pla yed , to the sequencer in real-time (one track a t a time). All MIDI channels (1-16) are r ecor ded sim ultaneously .
35 This mode contains various settings related to trigger input from the pads and trigger sensors that are con- nected to the DTXPRESS. It allows you to adjust pad sensitivity and assign drum v oices to eac h trigger input. T rig ger Setup data consists of seven preset types (No.

49 3. V olume, Pan This function changes the volume and pan settings for each MIDI c hannel in the user song (re writes the V oice information in the song’s header). This control change will be transmitted when a song is selected and when song playback is stopped.
50 6. Clear T rack This function clears all data in the assigned track q in the user song. 8. Clear Song This function clears the sequence data in tracks 1 and 2 of the user song. q TR (Specified T rack) Assigns the track (“ 1 ” or “ 2 ”) to be cleared.
