10 Getting started This section describes how to g et your Rovio up and running. Battery and pow er requirements This section describes the battery and power requir ements for Rovio and its char ging dock with built-in T rueT rack Beacon. Ro vio Rovio uses a rechar geable 6 V NiMH battery pack (included).
11 Assembling the charging dock T o assemble the charging dock: 1. Place the char ging dock on the oor in the room you w ant to use as Rovio’ s home base.
12 4. T wo red dots will project light onto the ceiling. T o optimize the signal, point the red dots at the center of the ceiling a wa y from unsmooth surfaces such as lighting xtures, fans, air vents and corner s. NO TES: The red dots are a guide to help y ou set up the charging dock .
13 Getting started Installing and charging the battery pack Installing and charging the battery pack Before y ou use your Rovio, you need to install and c harg e the battery pack . T o install the batteries: 1. Locate and open the battery compartment door on the underside of R ovio.
14 T o charge the batter ies: 1. Ensur e that the power to the electrical outlet is turned on and that Rovio is turned on by pressing the power button; R ovio’ s LEDs will light up. 2. Place R ovio in its assembled charging dock as illustr ated. The LEDs on Rovio will pulse quickly to indicate that it has begun charg ing .

19 4. Y ou need to connect directly to your R ovio (Ad hoc connection). Click on AirPort in the menu bar on top of the screen. Select the R OVIO_W OWWEE network ( your Rovio). 5. Y ou now need to adjust the T CP/IP settings for your computer to work with Rovio.

22 T rueT rack Beacons Rovio uses T rueT rack Beacons to help it locate its charging dock (home base). The charging dock comes with a built -in T rueT rack Beacon. The Beacon projects two IR signals on the ceiling that Rovio uses as its guiding lights to tr ack the location of the Beacon.

31 C ommand Description T urn speed A djust the speed of Rovio’ s turning movements. Move the slider to the left to decrease the turning speed; move the slider to the right to increase turning speed. Angle T urn Speed Adjust the speed of R ovio’ s turning angle.
32 C ommand Description P assword Enter the password you use f or your mail server , if required.. C onrm Passwor d Enter the same password you use in the P asswor d eld, if required.. Email Settings Specify email settings to which you send video screen captures.
33 C ommand Description Network tab Allows you to specify network options and settings Wi-F i Settings Specify the wireless connection settings. SSID Specify the name of the wireless r outer (SSID) you will use with Rovio. Also, in A d hoc mode, it indicates the name of the Ad hoc network to which you are connected.
34 C ommand Description IP Setup Allows you specify IP settings for y our Rovio and router . Automatically from DHCP Automatically select an IP addr ess based on the router’ s DHCP settings. Select this option if you do not w ant to specify an IP address.

38 Using R ovio from an external network T o be able to use Rovio outside your internal network, y ou will need to set up port forw arding on y our wireless router to be able to communicate with R ovio.

40 Once your ports are set up for f orwar ding , you can log onto R ovio to set up your domain name. T o set up your domain name to be used with Rovio: 1. F rom the R ovio interface, select Settings , then select the Domain tab. 2. On the Domain tab , enable the Enable option.

43 Updating the R ovio firmware When rmwar e updates are av ailable, you can download them and update the Rovio . NO TES: Ensure that Rovio is on and connected to y our network . Also make sure that Rovio has enough battery power before updating it.
44 R estoring R ovio to factory defaults Y ou can restore R ovio to its factory defaults, including its rmware, using the R ovio interface or the Rovio R estore wizar d (using a P C ), for instance, if you need to change the security settings.
