Connect th e in clud ed power adapter in to an available power outlet. A ttach the barr el plug into th e power jack o f the AP . Y ou should see the power LED li ght turn on, th e system ligh t blink a few tim es, an d then th e system, LAN, U SB 1, USB 2, an d Bluetooth ligh ts will blink r epeatedly as the AP initi ates itself.
Connecting USB Printers (optional) The AP supports up to two U SB prin ters. Please d o not conn ect an y devi ces other than a USB prin ter dir ectly to these ports . 1. A ttach on e en d of a U SB cable to one o f th e USB ports on th e AP . 2. Connect th e oth er end to an available U SB prin ter .
The IP ad d ress will autom atically be set if your n etwork has DHCP . Once th e AP is conn ected to the n etwork, it will attempt to get an ad d ress fr om a DHCP server upon power up. Note: The AP will use the stored address and will not try DHCP if an IP address has been manually stored via the web manager .
Connecting Is as Easy as 1.2.3.4 I t’s easy to conn ect to th e AP and m anag e it. Y ou can connect to th e AP using Bluetooth technology , and a browser to conn ect to: h ttp://1.2.3.4. This is the ad dr ess of every AP as seen from Bluetooth clien ts, m akin g man aging it as easy as 1-2-3-4.
Bluetooth Client Connectivity The curr en t firmwar e release supports g en eral AP fun ction ality . Fr om a Bluetooth clien t, you can perform Devi ce Discovery an d Service Discovery on th e AP , and attach to the n etwork vi a LAN access over PPP pr ofile .

U sing 3Com PC Car ds Connectin g to th e AP using th e 3COM clien t on a laptop involves first settin g up the clien t (please r efer to the 3COM Bluetooth manu al for this). Max Clients: He re you may specify th e max imu m nu mber of Bluetooth clien ts that can be connected to th e AP at one time .
USING THE WEB MANAGER 32 USB Y ou can connect up to two USB prin ters and print to th em via Bluetooth or the (wir ed) LAN. If you have two USB prin ters connected to the AP , both may be accessed vi a Bluetooth only . The wir ed LAN will only have access to the USB prin ter connected to the lower U SB port.

The def ault user name is “guest” an d the d efault passwor d is “guest” . Strong er security can also be implemented wh ere users and th eir unique passwords are cr eated.

Browse the IP ad dress , then select “U tilities”, then “Upgr ade” pages . Y ou should see a pag e showin g the curren t release in the unit an d a URL pointing to www .
USING THE WEB MANAGER 39 Rebooting the AP After an upgrad e completes, you will need to r eboot the unit by cycling power or clickin g the “REBOO T” button. NOTE: Once the REBOO T button is clicked, you will lose all network and Bluetooth connections, including the web manager .
USING THE WEB MANAGER 40 F actory Reset U se this opti on to revert all settings of your AP back to the factory presets . See the “Default Settin gs” section f or a complete list of def ault values. BLUETOOTH TO USB PRINTING 41 The AP con tains two extern al USB host ports . A USB-enabled prin ter can be attached to either port an d serviced from th e AP . Note: Y ou must add a printer , as a “Local Printer” (NOT Network Printer), and select the “Bluetooth Serial PORT” as its port.

LAN PRINTING 44 Configuring your Netw ork Settings In ord er to connect to the In ternet, your AP needs an IP ad dress . T ypically th ese are provi ded to the AP by a DHCP server . The AP is set to obtain an IP ad dress fr om the Ethern et via DHCP .
LAN PRINTING 45 Installing the Softw are 1. Insert th e USB Print Server U tility CD-ROM in the computer you wish to print fr om. 2. Click on th e “Setup.exe” file . 3. Y ou should see the f ollowing appear on your screen. Cli ck on the “Ne xt” button to begin the in stallation process .

TROUBLESHOOTING 50 I can connect to the AP but I cannot connect to e xternal web pages. Ve rify th e followin g: 1. The Eth ernet cable is properly conn ected to the AP unit. The LAN LED o f the AP should be on. If it is n ot on, then the d evice is not pr operly connected to the h ub .

52 52 TROUBLESHOOTING What devices can I connect to the USB? The curr ently supported devi ces are USB prin ters. I get disconnected from the AP after a while . Some cli ents such as PD As and laptops disconn ect automati cally if the conn ection is i dle f or a while.
TROUBLESHOOTING 53 I can bro wse IP addresses (such as the b uilt-in 1.2.3.4) but cannot access web pages using “www” address names . The DNS is pr obably not being set pr operly . Perhaps th e DNS server addr ess entered is no t valid, or on e was not received if DHCP was used .
