SOFTW ARE SETUP 10 on a P ocket PC , follow the instructions below: 1. Remove any accessories from your P ock et PC . 2. Place the P ock et PC in its cr adle and mak e an ActiveSync connection to your desktop or notebook computer (see Fig. 1, “ ActiveSync Window”).

Note: Ensure that your desktop or notebook computer and Pocket PC have completed all operations before exiting the setup.
INST ALLING THE ADAPTER CARD 13 Insert the Adapter Card into the Pock et PC. A Bluetooth Radio icon should display at the bottom of the “T oday” screen and the LED at the top of the Adapter Card should blink.
SOFTW ARE OVERVIEW Launching the Application T he Bluetooth application is launched from the P ock et PC “T oday” screen. Select “ Bluetooth Manager” either from the “Start” menu (see Fig. 8 below , “Launching the Bluetooth Manager from the Start Menu”) or from the Bluetooth Radio menu (see Fig.
SOFTW ARE OVERVIEW (CONT ’D) If you have no devices saved to your P ock et PC , a dialog box will prompt you to search for Bluetooth devices (see Fig. 10, “Initial Search Prompt”). Choose “Y es” to display the search screen and the Adapter Card will begin searching for Bluetooth devices in the area.
SOFTW ARE OVERVIEW (CONT ’D) 16 Y ou will now want to assign these devices to a “Device Group”. F or information on Device Groups , see the “Device Groups” section. 1. Select those devices that you want to k eep by selecting the individual check boxes .
SOFTW ARE OVERVIEW (CONT ’D) The Main Window F ollowing this initial device discovery session, the “Main” window will appear (see Fig. 13, “Main Window Controls”), listing saved Bluetooth devices . F ollowing your initial search, it will display “ All Devices”.
SOFTW ARE OVERVIEW (CONT ’D) 18 Device Group Drop-Down Menu T he “Device Group” drop-down menu allows you to display devices found in a particular device group or in all groups (“ All Devices”). This drop-down menu also includes a selection for adding, editing, or deleting a group (see the “Modifying Groups” section).
SOFTW ARE OVERVIEW (CONT ’D) T ools Menu T he “T ools” menu allows access to dialog screens for group settings (see the “Group Settings” section) and system diagnostics (see the “System Diagnostics” section). Search T apping “Search” launches the “Search” screen (see the “T he Search Screen” section).
SOFTW ARE OVERVIEW (CONT ’D) 20 From the bottom of the “T oday” screen you can: 1. T urn the radio on or off—select to toggle the r adio . 2. Launch the “ Bluetooth Manager” application. 3. Initiate a wireless ActiveSync session (see the “P erform an ActiveSync Session” section).
DEVICE DISCOVERY The Search Screen T he “Search” screen (see Fig. 17, “Search Screen”) allows you to search for devices and assign them to device groups . T o open the “Search” screen, tap “Search” at the bottom of the main window . The Adapter Card will automatically begin searching for Bluetooth devices .
DEVICE DISCOVERY Search Button Launches the search for devices (see the “Searching for Devices” section). Save Button Allows you to save devices to device groups (see the “Saving Devices” section). Filter Button Launches the search filter screen (see Fig.
DEVICE DISCOVERY (CONT ’D) Search Status Line T ext string located at the bottom of the search screen that displays the status of the search. T his status line also tells you how many devices were found during the search.
DEVICE DISCOVERY (CONT ’D) T he “Search” button changes to “Stop” while the search is in progress and changes back to “Search” when the search is complete (times out) or when you tap “Stop”. Saving Devices Once a device is discovered and you decide that you want to save it for future use , it should be saved to a Device Group .

Device Name Name assigned by owner of selected device . Device Address Unique Bluetooth address used to identify the device .

View Menu Devices can be viewed in two different formats , “Icons” and “List”. T he “V iew” menu (see Fig. 22, “View Menu (Icon View)”) allows you to select either of these views . It also allows you to refresh the screen. • Icon View (see Fig.

T he right column tells you the current status of the device (for example , Connected, Available , Unav ailable).
F rom the main window , tap and hold the device icon you want to communicate with. Y ou are pre- sented with a list of services that the selected device supports (see Fig. 24, “Communicating with Other Devices”). Or from the “Device Information” dialog window , select the “ Actions” menu (see Fig.

Send Business Cards Allows you to send your business card information to another device . From main window: 1. Discover the available services of the device that you w ant to send a business card to . In the main window , tap and hold the device icon.
From the “Contacts” Dialog window: Business cards can also be sent directly from the Contacts list. In the “Start” menu, select “Contacts”: 1. T ap and hold on the Contacts item that you want to send to another device (see Fig. 29, “Contacts Dialog”) or select the Contacts item and tap “T ools” (see Fig.
Exchange Business Cards Allows you to exchange business card information with another device . T his function works the same as when sending your business card with the exception that, if available , you will also receive the other device’ s information directly into your contacts database.
Connect for Dial-Up Access 1. When viewed on P ock et PC 2002, this menu item is titled “Set as Internet Dial-Up connection”. 2. Allows you to connect wirelessly to cell phones and modems equipped with Bluetooth technology .
DEVICE DISCOVERY (CONT ’D) 36 Connect for LAN Access 1. When viewed on P ock et PC 2002, this menu item is titled “Set as Internet LAN connection”. 2. Allows you to connect to Bluetooth devices that are already participating in a local area net- work (LAN).
2. Run the Bluetooth configuration utility on the host PC to determine which COM port is configured for local serial service . Refer to the Bluetooth user documentation that came with your host PC for information on running the configuration utility .
Create bond with this device: F ound only in the “ Actions” menu; allows you to establish a bond with another device to allow uninterrupted exchange of data. 1. T ap on the device that you want to bond with to display the “Device Information” dialog.

DEVICE DISCOVERY (CONT ’D) 40 Moving and Removing Devices Y ou can move a device between groups or remove a device from any group except “ All Devices”. Y ou can only remove a device from “ All Devices” by removing the device from your database .
W orking with Device Groups T hree empty device groups named “ All Devices”, “Home”, and “W ork” are provided when you install the Bluetooth software . All discovered Bluetooth devices are stored in the “ All Devices” group when saved.

Group Settings Access “Group Settings” by selecting “Settings for <group>” from the “T ools” menu in the main window (see Fig. 36, “Selecting Settings for <group>”). T hese settings provide the group certain information about your device , as well as specify how it interacts with the rest of the group .
General T ab Device Name T his is the name that other Bluetooth device users see when they discover your device . Default P asskey (blank by default) Used for authenticating connections requested by other devices for transactions that need a “passk ey” (see other service tabs for passk ey requirements).
Connections T ab Let other devices see me (check ed by default) Check this box to allow other devices to locate your device in a search. This will not prevent devices that have previously discovered your device from conducting a transaction since they already know your Bluetooth address .
T ransmission power for this group Allows you to choose the transmission power level that is used whenever the group is selected. Selection of this power level determines the transmission r ange (and therefore power consumption) of your device .
P asskey is required (uncheck ed by default) Check this box to require authentication for file sharing. If check ed, you will be prompted to “accept” or “reject” transactions by any unbonded devices (see Fig. 41, “P assk ey Required”). Unbonded devices will be required to supply a matching passk ey .

If uncheck ed, you can still connect with other devices and send them files .

Y ou can conduct basic checks of the hardware utilizing either the “Loopback T est” or the “Reset BC01 T est”. Both can be accessed via the “Diagnostics” screen.
Reset BC01 T est Re-initializes (resets) the radio circuitry used to tr ansmit and receive data. 1. Select “Diagnostics” from the “T ools” menu at the bottom of the main window (see Fig. 45, “T ools Menu”). 2. Select “Reset BC01 T est” from the pull-down menu and tap the “Run” button (see Fig.

TROUBLESHOOTING 56 The application fails to install properly . Mak e sure that you have uninstalled any existing Bluetooth software . If necessary , conduct a factory reset of the P ock et PC . Bluetooth Radio icon does not appear in the “T oday” screen.
TROUBLESHOOTING 57 Other devices cannot discover my device . 1. T ry moving closer to a known device . 2. Check to mak e sure your radio is turned “ON” (see Bluetooth Radio icon, page 13). 3.
