17 English Hot keys The computer employs hot keys or ke y combinations to access m ost of the computer’s controls like sc reen brightness, volume ou tput and the BIOS Utility. To activate hot keys, pres s and hold the < Fn > key before pressing the other k ey in t he hot ke y combin ation.
1 Getting to know your TravelMate 18 English The Euro symb ol If your ke yboard layo ut is set to Unite d States-I nternation al, Unit ed Kingdom or if you have a keyb oard with a European layout, you can type the Euro symbol on your keyboard. Note for US keyboard users: The keybo ard layout is set when you first set up Windows.
19 English To verify the keyboard type in Wi ndows XP, follow the steps below: 1 Click on Start , C ontrol Panel . 2 Double-click on Regional and Language O ptions . 3 Click on the Language tab and click on Details . 4 Verify that the keyboard layout used for "En English (United States)" is set to United States-Inter national.
1 Getting to know your TravelMate 20 English Launch keys Located above the ke yboard are thr ee buttons. The lef t-most button is the power button. To the right of the power button are the two launc h keys. They are desi gnated as the Empo wering K ey and a programm able button .
21 English Touchpad The built -in touchp ad is a po inting de vice that sen ses movement on its surface. This means the cursor respon ds as you move your finger on the surface of the touchpad. The central location on the palmrest provides optimum comfort a nd support.
1 Getting to know your TravelMate 22 English Note: Keep your fingers dry and clean when using the touchp ad. Also keep the touchpad dry and clean . The touchpad is sensitive to finger movement, hence, the lighter the touch, the better the response. Tapping harder will no t increase the touchpad’s responsiveness.

1 Getting to know your TravelMate 24 English Using software Playing DVD movies When the DVD-ROM drive module is in stalled in the optical drive bay, you can play DVD movies on your computer. 1 Eject the DVD tray and insert a DV D movie disc; then close the DVD tray.

Disconnecting from the desktop Follow th ese steps to discon nect your computer from external accessor ies: 1 Save your work in progress.
