23 Understanding Scanning Simplex Operation Simplex systems us e a single frequency for both transmit and receive. Mos t radios using this type of operation are limited to line-of-sight operation. This type of radio is f requent ly used at construct ion job sites, and with inexpensive consum er radios such as GMRS/F RS radios.
24 Understanding Scanning W hen tracking these types of systems, you migh t want to remember t hat your scanner can track m ore than one trunking sy stem at a time and scan conv entional and trunked s ystem s at the same time. Conventional scannin g is a simple concept.

So, whi le on a conventional system queries, replies, and follow-ups are all on a si ngle frequenc y , t he y could each be on completely d iff erent freq uencies on a trunked system .
26 Understanding Scanning The c omputer t he n assign s that talk group to a specific voic e channel and transm its that data over the c ontrol cha nnel. All radios in that tal k group switch over to the assi gned voice chann el and the user can begin spe ak- ing.
27 Understanding Scanning EDACS Trunking EDAC S trunking works in much the same way as Motorola trunking with a couple of m ajor differences. In an EDACS system, each frequency u s ed by th e system i s assigned a Logi c al Channel Number (LCN) so that less data needs t o be tr ansmitted by the control cha nnel.

EDAC S SCA T – EDACS SCA T (Single Channel Autonom ous Trunking) systems operate on a single cha nnel and alternate control data with analog voice traffic.

Never attempt to recharge non-recha rgeable batte ries. Non-rechargea ble batteries can get hot and can even burst if you try t o recharge them .
