http://www.tyan.com 24 2.5 - Heat sink Installation After installing the processor, you should proceed to install the h eat sink. The CPU heat sink will ensure th at the pr ocess or do not overheat and c ontinue to operate at maximum performance for as lo ng as you o wn them.
http://www.tyan.com 25 2.6 - Thermal Interface Material There are two t ypes of thermal interface materials designed for use with the processors. The most common material comes as a small pad attached to the heat sink at the time of purchase. There should be a protective cover over the material.
http://www.tyan.com 26 2.7 - Finishing Installing the Heat sink After you have finished installing the heat sink onto the processor and socket, attach the end wire of the fan (which should already be attached to the heat sink) to the motherboard. T he following diagram illustrates ho w to connect fans onto the motherboard.
http://www.tyan.com 27 2.8 - Tips on Installing Motherboard in Chassis Before installing your motherbo ard, make sure your chassis has the necessary motherboard support studs insta lled. These studs are usuall y metal and are gold in color. Usually, the chassis m anufacturer will pre- install the support studs.

Alt hough the plastic studs are usable, TYAN ® recommends using metal studs with screws that will fasten the motherboard more securely in place. Press the locking levers in the direction sho wn in the following illustration. 2. Align the memory module with the socket. The memory module is keyed to fit only one way in the socket.
