3 INTRODUCTION PRODUCT DESCRIPTION A Surveillix XVS / DVS / HVS is a DVR, a server that performs as a High Definition Digital Recorder. By utilizing the many feat ures of a computer, incl uding processing power, storage cap acity, graphics compression, an d security features , the DVR is more pow erful than the analog r ecorders of the past.

16 IDENTIFYING INCLUDED COMPONENTS Surveillix™ DVRs come with a mouse, k eyboard and s elected software and cables. Ident ify the followin g components to make sure everything has be en properly incl uded with the new D VR. If any of the following items are missing, co ntact the dealer to arrang e a replacement.
17 OPTIONAL COMPONENTS To fully utilize the DVR’s potential; s everal option al Surveillix c omponents are liste d below. Contact the dealer for more in formation. 1 Extra Video Storage Hard Drive Each DVR has a virtually unlimited st orage potential.
18 KEYBOARD SETUP To attach the key board to the DVR, p lug the end of th e Keyboard in to the keyboard PS/ 2 Port located on the back of the machine . The keyboard PS/2 Po rt can be identified by the purple color. Refer to the Rea r Panel Connector s diagram for mor e information.
19 MONITOR SETUP The DVR has the follow ing connectio ns available to att ach a monitor. SVGA Output To VGA Monitor. DVI-D Output To TV / Digital Monitor Attach the monitor or monitors to the rear of the DVR using th e cable supplie d by the monit or manufacturer.
20 MAKING CONNECTIONS ON AN XVS Connecting a Video Source There are different types of Video So urces that can be plu gged into the X VS including DVD play ers, VHS players, and CCTV Cameras. The back of th e XVS contains up to 16 vi deo inputs depen ding on the model.
21 Connecting Sensors to the XVS Each XVS may have up to 16 Sensor inputs. These inputs can be used wi th devices such as infrar ed devices, motion device, glass breakage alarms , door and window t rips, and many m ore. The Sensors can be set to Nor mally Open or Norm ally Closed inside the software.
22 Connecting Control Outputs to the XVS Each XVS may have up to 4 Control Outputs. These outputs can be used to trigger devices such as Sirens, Phone Dia lers, Lights, and any other rel ay activated device. There is no power supplied to the ports. Us e an external power s upply if nec essary.
23 Looping Outputs The 16 Channel X VS may have up t o 16 Looping ou tputs. Depending on the destinat ion of the out puts, each outp ut may have t o be terminated. The o utputs are located on the BNC Connector Cab le. Attach the cabl e to the input for the BNC Connector Cable highlighted below.
24 Connecting a PTZ Camera Setting up a PTZ Camera is simple. The DVR c omes preassembl ed with an inter nal PTZ adapter. Th e cabling may be run up to 4,000 ft using 22 Gauge Twis ted Pair. It is important to understand how t he PTZ connects to t he DVR.
25 MAKING CONNECTIONS ON DVS / HVS Connecting a Video Source There are different types of Video Sourc es that can be plu gged into the DVR includ ing DVD players, VHS play ers, and CCTV Cameras. The bac k of the DVR contains up to 32 video in puts depending on the DVR model.
26 Connecting Sensors to the DVS / HVS Each DVR has up to 16 Se nsor inputs. Thes e inputs can be us ed with devic es such as infrared d evices, motion dev ice, glass breakage alarms , door and window t rips, and many m ore. The Sensors can be set to Nor mally Open or Norm ally Closed inside the software.
27 Looping Outputs The 8/16 Channel DVS / HVS has up to 16 loo ping outputs. Dep ending on the des tination of the looping output s, each one may hav e to be terminat ed.
28 Looping Output Termination When it is neces sary to terminat e a looping outpu t, the DVR has bui lt in termination t hat allows users to select indiv idual ou tputs. It is not always necess ary to terminat e the output; it d epends on the dev ice to which you are connecting.
29 HARD DRIVE ARRAY (D VS / HVS ONLY) Swapping a Hard Drive 1. Press the Hard Drive Power Butto n to turn off power t o the hard drive being removed. 2. Turn the Butt on Lock to the open position a nd push the Handle Release Butto n 3. Pull the Rele ase Handle outward while remov ing the hard drive.
30 TURNING ON THE DVR Once the cables a nd adapters hav e been proper ly connected it is time to turn on the power . To turn on the po wer follow these s teps: 1. Turn on the monitor and any ex ternal peripherals (ex. Printers, Exter nal Storage Devices , etc.

32 SETTING THE TIME AND DATE 1. Exit to Windows by clicking the Exit button fr om the Display s creen and selec ting Restart in Windows Mode. (See the Dis play screen section later in this chapter) 2. Open Windows Ex plorer. Do this by r ight-clicking th e My Computer Icon (l ocated on the to p left hand corner of the Desktop) and select Explore.
33 Importing DVR Settings 1. Exit to Windows by clicking the Exit button on the Display s creen and sel ecting Restart in Windows Mode. (S ee the Display screen section later in this chapter) 2. Click Start > Programs > Surveillix > VFormat. 3.
34 DISPLAY SCREEN Each time the DVR s tarts, the program defaults to the Display screen. The fo llowing diagram ou tlines the butt ons and features used on the Display s creen. You shou ld become fam iliar with these o ptions as this is the screen that will be dis played the maj ority of the time.
35 CAMERA VIEW Recording Status Indicator The camera s tatus for each cam era is displayed in the upper rig ht corner on the V ideo Display Area. T he following are the diff er ent states for each c amera: Recording Displayed when the c amera is currently being recorded to the DVR.
36 SCREEN DIVISION BUTTONS The Screen Divisi on menu allows yo u to view cameras in groups such as two by two, three by three and four by four. The button options are shown below. 1st Four Cameras View – Displays cameras 1-4 in the Vide o Display Area.

38 SETUP OVERVIEW The Setup options allow you to optim ize your DVR by adjusti ng things like camera names, reboot schedules , recording sched ules and more.
39 CAMERA SETUP Set Up New Camera 1. Attach camera to the rear o f the DVR chassis. 2. Click Setup on the Display sc reen. 3. Click Camera Setup to open the Camera Setu p display. 4. Select the ch annel that corres ponds with the new camera from the Se lect Camera list.

43 HVR Upgrade and Registration Have the following information ava ilable before regis tering the HVR u pgrade. HVR Software Serial Number: T hat product Seria l Number is the uni que number that T oshiba provided with the purchase s oftware. System ID: The System ID is a number that is ge nerated by the S urveillix unit.
44 5. Verify the informat ion. 6. Click Next if the informatio n provided is correct. 7. Once validate d, the user will be pr ovided with the Unlock Code. 8. Print the page and save for later r eference. Unlocking the Upgrade 1. Return to Setup > Network Cameras > License .
45 MOTION SETUP The DVR allows the user t o adjust several differ ent Motion Se ttings and cr eate motion detect ion areas. Create a Motion Area 1. Click Motion in Setup . 2. Select a camera fr om the Select Camera list. 3. Select the Det ect Detail Motion Area check box .
46 Activating an Alarm on a Motion Event 1. In the Motion Setup wind ow, select a camer a to edit from t he Camera list. 2. Create a motion area. 3. Select the Al arm Output c heck box. 4. Select a Control Output to activate for the sel ected camera. 5.
47 FRAME SETUP OVERVIEW The Frame Setup menu allows confi guration of the PP S, resolution, qua lity, and sens itivity of camera c hannels. When co nfigurin g th e PPS sliders the BLUE slider represe nts th e PPS the DVR will recor d during intensive recordin g and have available for transmitti ng t o remotely connected systems.
48 Frame Setup (Real Time Models) Frame Select Blue Slider : Sets the PPS recorded durin g intensive rec ording and available for viewing on a rem ote client PC. Red Slider: Sets the PPS recorded by the DVR during normal recording. Video Quality Lower quality vid eo has a smaller file size but appe ars more pixilat ed.

50 SCHEDULE SETUP Recording Schedule The Recording Sched ule window allows the user to create different reco rding schedules based on the day, time, and ty pe of reco rding desired.
51 Sensor Schedule The Sensors will supers ede all other types of recording modes (Motion a nd Continuous). R egardless of the recording sc hedule of a particular camera, if a sensor even t occurs the ass ociated cameras wil l begin recording as a Sensor Event .
52 Create a Recording Schedule 1. Select a day to begin creating the sch edule for -or- cli ck Single Day Selection , ena bling Multi Day Selectio n , to create the same schedule for multiple days. 2. Highlight the Time-Blocks with in the Recording Schedule window for the camera(s) selected to sc hedule.
53 Special Day Schedule The user can crea te days that hav e a unique rec ording schedul e. If necess ary create these on days that are ‘ not typical’ such as Holidays, Special Events, etc. Creating/Editing a ‘Sp ecial Day’ Schedule 1. Click Normal Day Mode to enable the Special Day Mo de .
54 System Restart Setup System Restart Setup allows the user to define a sche dule wherein the DVR automatically restarts according to specified p arame ters. Create System Restart Schedule 1. Click Schedule on the Setup s creen. 2. Click Restart Setup .
55 SENSOR SETUP The Alarms setup window allows you to e nable, disabl e and configur e Sensors and Relay s (Control Outputs) . Configure Sensor Response 1. Click Setup on the Display screen. 2. Click Sensor . 3. Click the NO or NC check box to select Normally Ope n or Normally Clos ed for the desired s ensor.
56 Activate PTZ Preset on Sensor 1. Create a PTZ Pre set Position. See i nstructions in t he PTZ Setup chapt er. 2. Click Setup on the Display sc reen. 3. Click Sensor. 4. Click Sensor Preset . 5. Select the desired c amera from the Channel list. 6. Select the appropriate Sensor fro m the list.
57 GENERAL SETUP Function Beep on Login Fail Enables the DVR to be ep continuously in response to a failed login att empt. Only an aut horized login will stop the beep ing. Sequence Setting Allows the video out pictu re to automatica lly cycle thro ugh channel s at a set speed.
58 Intensive Recording Overview The Intensive Rec ording Option allows you to increase the Pictures Per Second of any camera, usin g sensor or motion activation .
59 TV-Out Setup (Multiplexer) The Multiplexer T V Out card is an o ptional upgrade t hat allows users to output video in a sequenc e or a matrix display.
60 Control Multiplexer M ode Display 1. Click TV Out on the Display sc reen. 2. Click Multiplexer . 3. To change th e camera that is displayed on th e monitor, c lick the desired camera number in the row that the monitor is connec ted to. Tip Port 1 is the top port on the TV Out card.
61 Volume The volume contro l allows fine tuni ng of the volume s ettings on the DVR. Volume Options: • Slider Controls – Used to a djust the literal vol ume for the respective devi ces listed.
62 Auto Sequence Setting Auto Sequencing i s available eit her in the Displ ay screen when A uto Sequencin g has been enable d or when a Spot- Monitor out sig nal is used to dis play on a spot monitor. Auto S equencing c onveniently dis plays video cha nnels at spec ified inter vals and sequ ences through each se lected channe l.
63 NETWORK SETUP Network Setup allows the user to ad just settings such as Po rts, setup emerg ency PPP information for use w ith the Emergency Age nt and enable Remot e Access. Transport Rate A bandwidth throttl e based on percen tage of free networ k.
64 PAN/TILT SETUP The Pan/Tilt Setu p display allows enabling of PTZ c ameras, creation of Presets, c reation of Tours, a nd adjustment of c amera sp eed settings.
65 ADMINISTRATIVE SETUP Disk Management The Disk Management window is a nativ e Windows func tion. This windo w displays the p artition scheme a nd health status of the Ha rd Disk Drives in the DVR. This window is often us ed to troubles hoot a DVR, or verify the amount of Hard Driv e storage installe d.
66 Setting Up DDNS Dynamic Domain Name System (DDNS) is a se rvice that provid es a stat ic address to simplify re mote connection to t he DVR. This service is most us eful for instal lations where the WAN (public) IP addres s is dynamic (cha nges from time to t ime).
67 User Management The User Management Console allows the administrator to c reate, edit, and delete user ac counts. Each us er account can be assigned different priv ileges to limit the us age of the DVR system.
68 User Rank The User Ranking structure allows the optio n to assign a privil e ge system (1-10 where one has the most rights) to u sers of the DVR Software. For exampl e. Since only one user is allow ed to use the PTZ controls at any one time, an a dministrator with a higher rank can kick another u ser out and take c ontrol of the PTZ.
69 Status Check / Email General 1. Click Setup on the Display sc reen. 2. Click Administrative . 3. Click Status Check/Email . 4. Select the En abl e Email Alarm chec k box. 5. Enter a From Name and e-mail Address . Note This name and address will appear in the From line of the email alert message.
70 Storage Check 1. Set up the General an d Users tabs firs t. (see above) 2. Select the Use St orage Check check box. 3. Define the number of min utes. 4. Select an Alert Op tion, Beep or Popup Mes sage, if desi red. 5. Click Apply. Recording Data Check 1.
71 SMART Information The SMART Information tab display s Hard Drive informati on. SMART Alert 1. Setup the General and Users tabs first. (see above) 2. Select the Enable SMART Alarm. 3. Define the number hours between SMART checks. 4. Select the ty pe of SMART event to trigger an acti on.
72 INSTANT RECORDING The Instant Recor ding feature allow s users to ma nually initiate rec ording on a spec ific camera, ov erriding the current s chedul e.

74 SEARCH OVERVIEW The DVR has several opt ions that allow th e user to eas ily search through, a nd find, a parti cular section of video. From Mot ion /Sensor indexing to calen dar views highli ghting days with rec orded video; th e DVR is equipped to help the us er quickly find a specific video or event.
75 Adjust the Brightness of an Image 1. Select an ima ge to adjus t by double-c licking on the d esired image. M ultiple images cannot be adjus ted at one time. 2. Move the Brightn ess slide bar to th e right or left to adj ust the brightness. 3. Reset the Brightne ss by moving the s lider back to the center of the bar.
76 PERFORMING A BASIC SEARCH There are several different types o f searches that ca n be performed on the DVR. The most basic involves s electing the da te, ti me, camera, and clic king play. 1. Click the Calen dar button to s elect a date. 2. Select a time by clicking th e up and down arrows to t he right of the t ime display.
77 SAVE TO JPG OR AVI The DVR can export single im ages in a JPG Image fi le format and save v ideo clips in a n AVI format. Both J PG and AVI file for m ats are the most com monly used graphi cal formats today. Virtually every co mputer offers som e type of support f or these file form at s which make them the most ideal f ormats to use.
78 Bookmarks Use bookmark s to mark a video c lip during a searc h. Export bookmarke d data using th e Clip Backup featur e. 1. Perform a searc h for the desired vide o. 2. Stop playbac k at the beginn ing of the desir ed clip. 3. Right-click the video and selec t Start Bookmark .
79 Single Clip Backup Along with the Sav e option, a single camera backup option is also inc luded with the Survei llix software. The s ingle Camera or Clip Backup allows the user to backup a single camera wit hout hAVIng t o backup multiple cameras at a give n time.
80 INDEX SEARCH Using the Index S earch can greatly decrease the am ount of time spent searching t hrough saved vid eo. The Index Searc h allows a us er to perform a search based on criteria such as Sensor, M otion and Insta nt Record events Performing an Index Search 1.
81 PREVIEW SEARCH Preview Search c an be used in a number of circumst ances to quick ly find an exact m oment where an event , such as a th eft, occur red. The Preview Sear ch gives a 24 Hou r visual overview of a single c amera by separat ing a 24 hour period (1 day ) into 24 images , on e image for each ho ur of the day.
82 Performing a Preview Search 1. Select a sing le camera by eit her turning of f all cameras but o ne or double-c licking a displ ayed image. 2. Click Preview Search . 24 images display. If ther e is no recorded vid eo during a port ion of the d ay, “No Image” will be displayed where the image s hould be.
83 OBJECT SEARCH Object Search is a powerf ul search utility that is used to search a regi on on the video f or any motion c hanges. Results are n eatly displayed and c an be view ed quickly. Performing an Object Search 1. Perform a Basic Search. See the in structions on Performi ng a Basic Searc h.
84 MOTION SEARCH The Motion Searc h provides a dyna mic display of the levels of motion in rec orded video. Adjus t the level of motion to only pl ay clips of video at or ab ove that level.
85 SEARCH IN LIVE The Search in L ive feature allows users to review eve nts immediately w hile monitoring l ive video. Pa use, rewind, and res ume l ive video within secon ds of an alarm eve nt or suspicious ac tivity. 1. Move the mous e cursor over t he desired l ive video displ ay on the Live Dis play screen.

88 PAN / TILT / ZOOM OVERVIEW The PTZ controls within the DVR allow for powerful control over t he cameras. Th is can be extreme ly beneficial by i ncreasing th e usefulness of t he recorded vide o. Using the PT Z controls y ou can create cus tom preset confi gurations that c an continuously swee p across large areas .
