2 Magellan Meridian GPS R eceiver R efer ence Guide: He re you will find step-by-step instructions for all of the features found in the M eridian. This chapter is set up in a way that y ou can quickly and easily find the feature you ar e looking for .
3 M agellan M eridian GPS Receiver S etting up the M eridian is a simple three-step process: installing the batteries, selecting the language to be used and initializing the M eridian. The Magellan M eridian uses two AA batteries that are installed from the back through the battery cover .
4 Magellan Meridian GPS Receiv er The final step in setting up the Meridian is to initialize the r eceiver for first-time use. This will help your Meridian begin computing your position in the fastest manner possible.
5 M agellan M eridian GPS Receiver Pr ess [ENTER] (Y ou have 10 seconds to press ENTER or the M eridian will shut off .) The Meridian displays a message box indicating that the receiver needs to be initialized. Pr ess [ENTER] U se the U p/Down arro ws on the keypad to highlight your general region.
6 Magellan Meridian GPS Receiv er When the time is correct, pr ess [ENTER] . The last piece of information needed is the date. U sing the arrow keys, enter the present date. Pr ess [ENTER] . 7 M agellan M eridian GPS Receiver F or many of you this will be your first introduction into using a GPS r eceiver as a navigational tool. With all of the features and functions provided with the M eridian, it may seem a bit intimidating at first. Don ’ t worry .
8 Magellan Meridian GPS Receiv er The display backlight can be set to one of three levels (lo w , high or off ). PWR Press and hold for 2 seconds Display backlight illuminates (low) PWR Press and hold.
9 M agellan M eridian GPS Receiver The Meridian has eight navigation scr eens: Map screen, Compass scr een, Large Data screen, P osition screen, Road screen, Data screen, S peedometer screen and Sat S tatus screen. They will be described briefly here.
10 Magellan Meridian GPS Receiv er M ap Screen The M ap screen has two modes, position or cursor . In the position mode, your pr esent position is indicated by the large arrow icon in the center of the display . If you are mo ving, the arrow will point in the direction that you ar e heading.
11 M agellan M eridian GPS Receiver P osition Screens. The P osition screens 1 and 2 display your present position using the coor dinate systems that you have selected in Setup. This screen shows all of the basic position, time and satellite information.
12 Magellan Meridian GPS Receiv er Fr om any screen other than a navigation scr een, pressing [NA V ] returns you to the last navigation screen viewed. N ote that if you are inputting data, pressing [NA V ] will return you to the last navigation screen but y our inputs will not be saved.
13 M agellan M eridian GPS Receiver The Icon Select windo w is displayed. Use the arrow keypad to mo ve from one icon to another with the name of the icon displayed at the top . As a reference tool, all of the icons and their names are listed in the R eference Chapter of the U ser M anual.
14 Magellan Meridian GPS Receiv er Is there a limit to the number of waypoints I can stor e in the Me ridian? Y es, the Meridian will store up to 500 user waypoints in memory . If you should ev er get that many and need to input more, you will hav e to delete ones that you no longer need to make room.
15 M agellan M eridian GPS Receiver S electing a Destination W aypoint from the Database using “ Alphabetical” H ighlight any category other than U ser , and press the LEFT/RIGHT arrows to select a F ind By of “ Alphabetical”. Pr ess [ENTER] .

21 Magellan M eridian GPS Receiver Reference In the Cursor Mode, y ou are pro vided with a cursor that can be moved on the map. At the bottom of the display is the information for the position of the cursor relative to your pr esent position. Also any points of interest that the cursor is ov er will be shown.
22 Magellan Meridian GPS Receiv er Refer ence S etting the M ap Detail — The detail of the map can be set to highest, high, medium, low or low est. This changes the zoom level that differ ent map objects (cities, highways, labels, etc.) are displayed.

25 Magellan M eridian GPS Receiver Reference Tu rning Data F ields On/Off — This option allows you to turn on or off the two information fields that are displayed on the M ap screen. T urning these off allows for more of the map to be displayed. Default is SHO W .
26 Magellan Meridian GPS Receiv er Refer ence A vailable Data Options Bearing This is the direction to your destination from your present position, in degrees, from N orth. Distance This is distance (measured in the Nav U nits selected in Setup) to your destination.
