When moving the printer , first disconnect it from the Lower Paper T ray Assembly and then move each unit separately . Moving the printer incorrectly may cause damage or personal injury .

The front panel displays a message telling you when the maintenance tray is low , allowing you to make a limited number of prints before the tray is depleted.

Getting Set Up 2 User Manual 2-13 Loading ink stic ks The printer ’s standard accessories include a box containing one of each color Phaser 350 ColorStix ® solid ink sticks: cyan, magenta, yellow and black. Y ou’ll need to load the box of ink sticks during printer set up.
2 Getting Set Up 2-14 Phaser 350 Color Printer Selecting a media tra y configuration If you print on differ ent types of media (paper and transparencies, letter head or label stock) or differ ent media sizes (U.S/Letter and Metric/A4), you’ll want to obtain a media tray for each type of media you use.

Refer to “Optional media trays” on page 8-6 for ordering information.

Note Handle transparencies by the edges and with both hands to avoid fingerprints and creases, which can r esult in poor print quality.

PhaserShar e cards can be purchased initially with the printer as an installed option or later as a separate upgrade kit.
Getting Set Up 2 User Manual 2-23 P arallel connection The printer supports a standard (uni-dir ectional) parallel port. The parallel port can also be set for bi-directional communications using downloadable utility files or from your W orld W ide W eb browser .
2 Getting Set Up 2-24 Phaser 350 Color Printer SCSI peripheral devices The SCSI port is used for connecting these optional peripheral devices: ■ Phaser Copystation T o set up the Phaser Copystation and to connect it to your printer , refer to Chapter 2 of the Phaser Copystation User Manual .
Getting Set Up 2 User Manual 2-25 T urning on the printer After you have connected the interface cables, you are r eady to connect the power cord and turn on the printer . If you need to turn the printer off, wait until the display shows Ready or the printer ’s name before powering it down.
2 Getting Set Up 2-26 Phaser 350 Color Printer 1. Plug the power cord into the printer and into a gr ounded outlet. 2. T urn on the printer . Note T o ensure optimum printing performance and best ink economy , leave the printer turned on overnight and during weekends.
Getting Set Up 2 User Manual 2-27 T urning off the Star tup page After the printer has warmed up, it automatically prints a startup page. If you want to turn off the startup page, you can do so thr ough the front panel. Refer to Chapter 7 for instructions on using the fr ont panel.

Use either the printer ’s CD-ROM or diskette: ■ CD-ROM: Insert the printer ’s CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive. ■ Diskette: Insert the Printer Software for W indows diskette into your disk drive.

Select your printer , then click Next . ■ Select T ektronix Phaser 350 if you have the standard version of the printer .

2 Getting Set Up 2-40 Phaser 350 Color Printer Configuring the driver 1. Open the Printers dialog box if it is not still displayed. (From the Control Panel , double-click the Printers icon.) 2. In the Printers dialog box, choose your printer from the list of installed printers.
Getting Set Up 2 User Manual 2-41 6. Set the T imeouts . These options regulate your computer ’s communications with its printer ports. ■ Device Not Selected: Use this text box to change the number of seconds W indows waits before notifying you that a printer is off-line.
2 Getting Set Up 2-42 Phaser 350 Color Printer ■ Select one of the Header options. The Header contains important PostScript information that must accompany each print job; it is not a banner page printed with each job. If the Header is not used, your job does not print.

2 Getting Set Up 2-52 Phaser 350 Color Printer Macintosh software Installer overvie w The Phaser 350 printer ’s CD-ROM and diskette include an installer application that automatically installs the printer ’s software onto your Macintosh hard disk.

Getting Set Up 2 User Manual 2-55 Setting up the Adobe PSPrinter Driver The Adobe PSPrinter driver uses printer-specific PPDs (PostScript Printer Description files) for information on a printer ’s page sizes, printing options, and media type options.

Getting Set Up 2 User Manual 2-57 Setting up the Phaser 350 GX driver If you are using Apple Macintosh QuickDraw GX and System Software 7.5 or later , use the Phaser 350 GX driver to print to your Phaser 350 printer . ■ The Phaser 350 GX driver works with QuickDraw GX and non-QuickDraw GX applications.

An icon of the printer appears on the desktop with the same name as the printer selected in the Chooser .

If the PPD file is not automatically selected, a dialog box opens showing the location of the PPD files you have installed in the Printer Descriptions folder , in the Extensions folder , inside your System Folder .

Printing Basics 3 User Manual 3-21 UNIX workstations For UNIX environments, T ektronix offers the optional PhaserPrint™ software. PhaserPrint softwar e offers driver-selectable printer options and provides fast, raster file and scr een copy printing to T ektronix color printers.
3 Printing Basics 3-22 Phaser 350 Color Printer VMS workstations T o print from VMS workstations, the optional PhaserSym™ utility , a VMS print symbiont, functions as a driver for selecting printing options, and as a queue manager . PhaserSym software is compatible with DEC workstations running V AX/VMS version 5.

3 Printing Basics 3-24 Phaser 350 Color Printer Macintosh applications QuarkXPress T o use the printer with QuarkXPress, use the installer application on the printer ’s CD-ROM or diskettes to install the Phaser 350.PDF printer description file. The file is installed automatically with Easy Install.
