Administr ator Guide 15 Searching for remote appliances You can locate rem ote Storage fl ex appliances by their IP address or their URL . A search f or a remote appliance will succeed only if your network is properly configured to reach th e subnet that the appliance is on.

Administrator Guide 18 2 Naming the appliance • Give the appliance a name of 15 characters or less so th at all clients on the network can locate the appliance. The applian ce name may not con tain any no n-E ngli sh characters. • Click Next to proceed to the next s tep.

Administr ator Guide 21 5 Assigning a passwo rd and Administrative SMTP Configuration • Assign an admin istrative password for th e appliance. The appliance i s sh ipped with a default passw ord setting ( “ADMIN” ). Choose a secure password that you will remember easily.

Administr ator Guide 23 4 Managin g Applia nce Setti ngs Configuri ng the Appliance to Use a UPS If a su pported UPS is con nected to the s erver via s erial cable, UPS m onitoring can be turned on. When UPS monitoring is on, the server will auto matically perform a safe shutdown in case the UPS batter y level becomes critical in a po w er outage.

Administrator Guide 38 Monitori ng Hardware Status of the Appliance It is possible to m onitor the status of ha rdware sensors of an Appliance if they’re available (for ex ample, system temperature, voltage, fan speed, etc.). To check status 1. Click M aintena nce .

Administrator Guide 42 Shutting Down an Appliance Important You are admin istering a server that is des igned to remain on m ost of the time. If y ou really want to turn the appliance off, be sure no users are conn ected. To shut down an appliance: • Click Shut down Applia nce , located on the Main Menu.

Be sure you know how to properly change thes e settings before proceeding .

In case you’re using the Appliance itself to act as LDAP server, this s chema will be created automatically after you enable LDA P server function of the Appliance (please see “Configuring LDAP s erver” below).

Administr ator Guide 57 Large Network Settings You can conf igure your Appliance to acces s other subn ets of the netw ork. Large Network s ettings can on ly be us ed when the applia nce has a stati c IP address. If the appliance obtains its IP address from a DHCP server, th e Large Network settings are automatically con figured with no entries.
Administrator Guide 58 Configuri ng LDAP Server It is possible to set up your Appliance to act as LDAP server. This w ill allo w to store information about users in a LDAP database and connec t to it from miscellaneous clie nts, including the Appliance itsel f.

But Volume Management is not limited to RAID creation only. Belo w you may learn about other w ays to conf igure storage s ettings of y our Applian ce.
Administr ator Guide 77 RAIDs Creating RAIDs You can create RAIDs from disks or p artitions. 1. Click the right mouse button on the Storage icon. 2. Select Create RAID f rom the popup m enu . 3. Select disks or partitions you would like to add into R AID.

Administr ator Guide 83 Clustering Clustering is used to increase sto rage stability and/or increase to tal available storage si ze. Clustering requires at least tw o servers to be pres ent on the network . Three ty pes of clusteri ng are support ed in St orage fl ex s oftware.
Administrator Guide 84 Note For clustering, it is required to have at least two NICs in each server that is participating in the cluster. One NIC will be used for data transfer, anoth er one will be used for in ter-server communication (“heartbeating”).
