Included with your machine are four cushioned feet with built-in adjustment studs (see Figure 7 ).

-1 8 - F or Mach ines M fg . Since 8 / 09 Mod el SB 1 023 OPERATION Controls Refer to Figures 10 – 11 and the following descriptions to become familiar with the basic controls of this machine. A. Longitudinal T ravel Handwheel: Moves the table back and forth along the longitudinal axis (X-axis).
F or Mach ines M fg . Since 8 / 09 Mod el SB 1 023 -1 9 - OPERATION W heel Selection Most grinding wheels from major manufacturers are marked in a somewhat uniform manner. Understanding these markings will help you understand the capabilities of various wheels.
-2 0 - F or Mach ines M fg . Since 8 / 09 Mod el SB 1 023 OPERATION Removing & Inst alling Grinding W heels If you must conduct a ring test, the grinding wheel must be removed and reinstalled onto the hub.

Place a sheet of plywood or similar on top of table to protect the table ( Figure 20 ), and open the grinding wheel cover.

-2 4 - F or Mach ines M fg . Since 8 / 09 Mod el SB 1 023 OPERATION 9. Set the wrenches aside and carefully remove the wheel and hub assembly with the hub puller still installed ( Figure 27 ).
F or Mach ines M fg . Since 8 / 09 Mod el SB 1 023 -2 5 - OPERATION This test will give you an indication of any internal damage that may not be obvious during a visual inspection. T o per form a ring test: 1. Make sure the wheel that you test is clean and dry; otherwise, you may get false results.
-2 6 - F or Mach ines M fg . Since 8 / 09 Mod el SB 1 023 OPERATION W heel Balancing Static wheel balancing can be difficult and very time consuming without practice. For accurate grinding results, wheel balancing is mandatory. For this balancing procedure, you will need a wheel balancing fixture.

Without letting any of the dogs or the lock balls they contain fall out of the hub, use a 2.5mm hex wrench to loosen the dogs and position them at the 0°, 120°, and 240° degree locations as indicated by the degree scale on the hub (Figure 34) .

Without moving the table, the amount of backlash can be determined by lightly turning the handwheel with your fingertips in one direction until the handwheel stops, noting the location shown on the handwheel scale.
