IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS · Read these in structions. · Keep these instructions. · Heed all warnings. · Follow all instructions. · Do not use this apparatus near water. · Clea n only w ith a dry cl oth. · Do not block any ventilation openings.
Introd uction WARNING: THIS APPARATUS MUST BE EARTHED The CPS2000 is a linear power su pply which, like other linear supplies, produces DC voltages by rectifying, smoothing and regula ting AC voltages from the se condary wind ings of a mains t ransforme r.

OPERATING VOLTAGE RANGE It is very important to use th e correct mains voltag e selection. A wide operating range of mains voltages is provided to enable the unit to func tion down to only 85Vrms on the mains supply.

Recommendations for Installation of the CPS 2000 Instal lation 7.
Recommendations for Installation The CPS2 000 power su pply is pro vided w ith f ront pa nel fi xing ho les for 19" rack-mounting and will occupy 4U of rack space. Rear support should be provided when fitted in a 1 9" rack. The CPS2000 is a heavy unit (30k g,) and should be regarde d as a two- man lift .
Finally, some consideratio n should be given to the ea rthing arrangement of the system at the ce ntre of which are the conso le and the CPS2000 (and any ot her Soun dcra ft power supply units). The con sole ch assis is eart hed, thro ugh the mains earth, via the power supply.
PSU Linking Link the second PSU to th e first a s shown in the following diagram. Note that the linking cable is included when a spare CPS2000 is ordered.

Circuit Description INTRODUCTION. The CPS2 000 power suppl y prov ides +/ -17V at 16 Amps, +8V at 1 .25 Am p, and + 48V at 0. 3 Amp . The main PCB (SC3 804) is in LH and RH halves . The LH PC B carrie s the +17V and +48V supplies. T he RH PCB carries the -17V and +8V supplies.
The 723 IC is powered through R11, which allows ripple filtering by C9, a nd voltage prote ction by DZ 1,2. T hese Zeners ar e no t req uired to redu ce ripp le; th eir fu nction is purely pr otectiv e, prev enting the 40V Vmax sp ec of the 723 being ex ceeded should the mains voltage rise above nominal.
When shutdown has ocurred, the supply is reset by turning the main s briefly off and on. R100 discharges C25 so that the circ uit is ready for use at the n ext switch-on.
Undervoltage warning. The supply gives a warning indication when the mains voltage has fallen so low that regulation is about to be lost. T he Headroom Indica tor subsystem illuminate s all the decimal points o n the DPM, giving a clear sig nal that something is amiss.
The +48V Supply. Max cu rren t rating is 0.3 A mps. Th e +48 V phantom supply is based on the high-voltage regulator T L783C. (REG1) The AC input is fused by F4 a nd fullwave rectif ied by BR4; C1 ,24 are t he reservoi r capaci tors. Th e unregu lated D C may rise as high as +8 5V on hi gh mains.

FAULTFINDING NOTES. SAFETY: These sa fety notes are directed to those testing and repairin g this power supply. Legal requirements mean that we must not encourage untrained per sonnel to take the lid off.
THIS IS DANGEROUS. The danger lies n ot in the voltage, but in the enormous cu rrents that will flow if the capacitor terminals are shorted. A small screwdriver will simply disappear in a violent explosion. The m ain bodily danger is from metal wa tchstraps, et c.
