Getting Started 14 If you use the SMAR TLINK connection, the Preset Download function starts and the SMAR TLINK indicator flashes in the display window during download. After the sear ch or download is complete, the current time appears in the display window for any stations that transmit a time signal.

55 Additional Operations How sound is recorded on a video tape The VCR recor ds sound onto two separate tracks. Hi-fi audio is recor ded onto the main track along with the picture. Monaural sound is r ecor ded onto the normal audio track along the edge of the tape.
Additional Operations 56 Searching using the Smart Search function If you record multiple pr ogrammes on a tape, use the Smart Search function to see what has been recor ded on your tape. Y ou can see information such as date, time, and channel of programmes recor ded on a tape.

59 Additional Operations Sear ching using the index function The VCR marks the tape with an index signal at the point wher e each recor ding begins. Use these signals as refer ences to find a specific r ecor ding. = / + INDEX SEARCH 1 Insert an indexed tape into the VCR.
Additional Operations 60 Adjusting the picture Adjusting the tracking Although the VCR automatically adjusts the tracking when playing a tape (the indicator flashes in the display window , then goes off), distortion may occur if the tape was r ecorded in poor condition.

Notes • Y ou can adjust the tracking for the NTSC-recorded tape but the tracking meter won’t be displayed. • W ith the Auto Long Play function on, the OPC function will work only in SP mode.
