T he S-AIT driv e stores lar ge amounts of imag e data on a singl e half-i nch tape car tridge, ma king it the indust ry's highest capa city tape dri ve.

This status is i ndicated by a c ombination of colo rs (green, orange, or yellow), and whether the indicat ors are lit or flashing. If you ar e using a S DZ-S1 00 (SCSI model ), proce ed to “Sett ing the SCSI ID (SDZ-S1 00 only )” on page 22. If you are usin g a SDZ-S130 (Fibre Channel int erface model), proceed to “Setting the Loop I D (SDZ-S13 0 only) ” on p age 23.
22 Chapter 2 Installation Settin g the SCSI ID (SDZ -S100 o nly) The SCSI ID is a uni que address tha t identifies the SDZ-S10 0 to the host. The defaul t SCSI ID of the SDZ-S1 00 is 0. T he unit can be confi gured to SC SI ID addresses rangi ng from 0 to 15 (or 0 to F) using the SCSI ID switch on the rear of the unit .

These j umpers are funct ional when the topol ogy is arbitrated loop. W hen the ju mpers are enabled, they acq uire AL_P A through LI HA (Loop Ini tializati on Hard Assigned).

27 Chapt er 2 Instal lati on Connectin g the SCSI Bus Cable ( SDZ-S100 only) Connect the SDZ -S100 (SCSI model) and the host computer with a SCSI cable. This secti on describes how t o do so. Use an Ul tra 160/m SC SI LVD cable commonly so ld in stores to connect the unit to the S CSI bus.

Appendix 41 Appendix Head Cleaning The S-AIT Tape Drive Uni t is equipped wi th an automatic he ad cleaning syste m and was develope d to require onl y a minimum of cleani ng. Yet, to maintai n the unit in peak con dition, the uni t determi nes when head cleani ng using a cleanin g cartridge is necessary.
42 Appendix Changing the Air Filter Unit We recommend that yo u replace th e air filter unit at least once a year. Con sult your de aler to purchas e air filt er units . Note We recommend that you clean the air filter unit once a month wi th a vacuum cle ane r.
Appendix 43 Hardware Reset In case of an eme rgency, yo u can reset the uni t by i nserting a pointed object such as a paper clip into the ha rdwar e re set hole. Caution Resetting the uni t with the h ardw are reset ho le may ca use you to lose data .
