14 It tak es about f ive hour s for your CLIÉ han dheld to be fully ch arged for the firs t time . The CHG LED turns off when ch arging is complet e, but the Cradle LED Stays on. The Ba ttery icon t urns to when yo u di sconnect your CLIÉ h andhe ld from the cradle.
15 Setting your Sony CLIÉ™ handheld Second ly, connect the AC cord to the AC power adapter, the n plug into the wall outlet. Removing the plug adap ter Remo ve the plug adapter ( 2 ) pushing th e both side of th e plug adapter ( 1 ).
16 Step 2: Performing the initial settings after turning on The first time you turn on your CLIÉ h andheld, you are re quired to make in itial settings. Fo llow the on-scre en instruction s to configure th e initia l settings and to get acc ustomed t o operati ons on you r CLIÉ han dheld.
17 Setting your Sony CLIÉ™ handheld Notes • Alway s use the point of the stylus for tappi ng or making stro kes on the CL IÉ handhe ld screen. Nev er use a real pen , pencil, or other sharp objec t to write on the screen . • When yo u put the stylus back in it s holder, push it in until it clicks into place.

All the changes in th e applicati on that you are working on are au tomatically saved, and the last screen you worked on is d isplayed wh en you restart the applic ation.
24 Pressing the appl icatio n buttons You can also star t the applic ations b y pressing the applic ation butt ons. The ap plication buttons ar e set as fo llows at the default; Date Bo ok, Addre ss, To Do, Memo Tip • You c an also start an appli cation by p ressing one of the ap plicat ion buttons e ven whe n your CLIÉ handhel d is off.

26 Restart ing your Sony CLIÉ handheld Normally , you do not need to reset your CL IÉ handh eld. Ho wever, sh ould yo ur CLIÉ han dheld not t urn on or not respond, you can perfo rm a soft rese t to solv e the pr oble m. Follo w the pro cedure be low to r eset your C LIÉ hand held.
27 Basic operations of your Sony CLIÉ™ handheld Performing a hard reset If the soft reset does no t solve the p roble m, you need to perform a hard reset to resta rt your CL IÉ handhe ld. Notes • All re cords an d add-on applic atio ns stor ed in your CLIÉ handhel d will be er ased by perfor ming a har d rese t.
28 A hard reset is perf ormed on your CL IÉ handhe ld. After restarting, the sy stem displays “p alm powered,” “CLIÉ,” and “SONY,” followed b y the Welcome screen. Refer to “Performing the initia l settings after t urning on” on pag e 16.
