4 Before u s in g your camera This digital st ill c am era uses 8 cm CD-R s/ C D - R Ws as recording media. “CD-R” or “CD-R W” mentioned above is indicated as “disc” in this manual. When a distinction between CD-Rs and CD-R Ws is nece ssary , “disc” is indicated as “CD-R” or “CD-R W .
5 Clean the flash surface before use The heat of f lash emission may caus e dirt on the flash surface to become discolored or to stick to the flash su rfac e, re su lting in ins u fficient light emission. Do not get the camera wet When taking pict ures outdoors in the rain or under simil ar conditions , be careful no t to get the camera wet.

13 Getting star te d Number of images and battery life that can be recorded / viewed The tables show the appr oximate number of images and the bat tery life that can be r ecorded/ viewed when you shoot images in normal mode with a fully charged battery pack at a tem perature of 25°C ( 77°F).

When yo u perfor m fi na li za tion (pag e 75) using your c amera to vi ew ima ges thro ugh a CD-ROM dr ive, ini tializati on is also autom a tically pe rformed, and you c an contin ue to record images.

22 Basic still image shooting — Auto adj ustment mod e , Set the mo de dial to , and turn on the pow er. The name of t he folder where the image will be reco rded ap pears o n t he LCD sc r een for approxima tely five seconds. • This camera can create new folders and select folders to be stored in the disc (page 41) .

29 Shooti ng st ill images • If the AF illuminator light does not reach the subject suff iciently or the subject has weak contrast, focus will not be achi eved. (An approximate distance of 0.3 m to 2.3 m (11 7/8 inches to 7 f eet 6 1/2 inches) is recommended.
30 Inserting the date and time on a still image , Set the mo de dial to SET UP . The SET UP scree n appears. • When im ages are s hot with the date a nd time superimposed, the date and tim e cannot be removed later.

49 Advanced still im age sh ooting • Under fluoresce nt lig hts that flicker, the white balance adjustment f unction may not work correctly even though you select (Fluorescent). • When the flash strobes, the manual setting is canceled, and the image is recorded in [Auto] mode (except in (Flash) mode).
50 Shooting multiple fram es — Clip Motion Mode dial: You can sho ot a numb er of cons ecutive still images (GIF an imation) . The GIF form at has a smal l file siz e, ma ki ng it co nvenien t for cr eating hom e pag es or attac hing ima ges to e-mai l.

68 • If you m ark an image shot in T IFF mode with a print (DP OF) mark, only the uncomp ressed (TIFF) ima ge is pri nte d, and the JPEG image recorded at the same time is not printed. • If you mark an image with a print mark, the disc remaining space will decrease.
