14 • Even if your camcorder is turned off, AC power (house current ) is still supplied to it while connected to the wall outlet (wall socket) via the AC Adaptor/Charger. Step 4: T urning th e power on and hold ing your camcor der prop erly To re cord or play back, set t he POWER swit ch to ON .

17 Gettin g Started Step 6: S ettin g the date and time Set the date and time when usin g your camcorde r for the first time. If yo u do not set the dat e and ti me, [CLOCK SET] screen appear s every time yo u turn on your camcorde r.
18 The cloc k starts. • Set [DST S ET]/[SUM MERTIM E] t o [ON] to move the time forward 1 hour. • You can set any year up to the year 2037. • For midni ght, set it t o 12:00 AM.
19 Gettin g Started Step 7: In serting a memor y card/A ttachin g a flas h memory un it 1 Open the cover in the direction of the arrow. 2 Orient the memory ca rd’s notched corner as shown in the illustr ation, a nd insert in to the memory card slo t until it clicks.
20 b Notes • You can only select a slot that already has a memory car d insert ed. • While movies are being recorded on the memory card, you cannot switch the slot even if you press the memory card slot A/B buttons. z Tips • When only one slot has a memor y card inserted, the slot th at has th e memory card is sel ected automaticall y.
21 Recordin g/Playback Recording/P layback Recor ding Your ca mcorder record s movies on mem ory cards or a flash memory un it. Do the followi ng step s to reco rd movies . • This camcorder can reco rd movies in either high definition image quality (HD) or standard definiti on image qual ity (SD).
22 2 Slide the POW ER switch to ON w hile pressing the g reen button. 3 Press the record button or the handle record button. The reco rding lamp lights up durin g recordin g. To stop the movie record ing, press the re cord button or th e handle rec ord button a gain.
23 Recordin g/Playback b Not es • Do not eject the memory card that is cur rently being used for recording. Replace only the memory card whose slot lamp is off. • Even if you press the memory card slot button, A or B, while recording movies, you cannot s witch the slot currently being used.
24 You ca n start and stop reco rding on differe nt recording media at diffe rent timing by op erating the record bu tton and the ha ndle record button. In the def ault set ting, movi es are reco rded on bot h the memory car d and the flash memo ry unit at th e same time w hen eith er re cord bu tton is pres sed.
25 Recordin g/Playback b Not es • You cannot r ecord in standa rd definitio n image quali ty (SD) on both th e memory card and the flash memory uni t simultaneous ly. You can select the recording format (bi t-rate, im age size, frame rate, sc anning system).
26 b Notes • The recording mode is fixed to FX or FH with the progressive scanning system. • When the recording format is changed to or from the 720 /60p, you will be prompted to re boot the camcorder. Select [YES]. Otherwise, you cannot switch the r ecording format.
27 Recordin g/Playback Changi ng the sett ings of y our ca mcorde r record ings . Move the power zoom le ver D slightly for a slower zoom . Move it further for a faster zoom. z Tip s • The minimum distance required between your camcorder and the subject for focus is abou t 1 cm (about 13/ 32 in.
28 You ca n adjust the foc us manual ly for different recording conditions. Use this functio n in the following cases. – T o record a subject behind a window cover ed with raindrops. – T o record horizontal stripes. – T o record a subjec t with little contrast between the subject and its background.
29 Recordin g/Playback [EXPANDED FOCUS] is assi gned to the ASSI GN 7 but ton ( p. 47) . Press the ASSIGN 7 button. [EXPANDED FOCUS] appears a nd the center of t he sc reen i s mag nifie d by a bout 2.0 ti mes. It will be easi er to co nfir m the focus setting during manua l focusing.
30 2 When the ir is is automatic ally adj usted, press the IRIS bu tton E . next to the iris va lue disapp ears, or the ir is valu e app ears on t he sc reen.
31 Recordin g/Playback [100] appears on th e screen whe n you set the shutter sp eed to 1/ 100 sec ond. Th e larger th e value on t he scre en, the faster the shutter speed. 4 Press the SEL/PUSH EXEC dial G to lock the shutter speed. To readjust the shutter speed, do steps 2 to 4 .
32 You ca n adjust and fix the white bala nce accordin g to the lighting cond itions of recordi ng environ ment. You ca n store white ba lance valu es in memory A ( A) and me mory B ( B), respecti vely. Unl ess a white b alanc e is readj usted, v alues w ill re main ev en aft er the power h as been turned o ff.
33 Recordin g/Playback A or B starts flashing rapidly. It will stay on w hen the white balanc e adj ustme nt is co mple ted a nd the adjusted valu e is stored in A or B. b Not es • When a white balance ad justment value has not been obtained succes sfully, A or B turns from rapid flashing to slow flashing.

37 Recordin g/Playback COLOR DEPTH To set the color d epth fo r each color phase . This func tion is more eff ective for ch romatic co lors and less effec tive for achr omatic col ors. The co lor look s deeper as you i ncrease the settin g value to more po sitive si de, and l ighter as you decre ase the value to more negative side.
38 DETAIL To set i tems for the deta il. Item Description and settings [LEVEL] Se ts the detail level. -7 to +7 [MANUAL SET] [ON/OFF] : Turns on and off the manual detail adjustment. [ON] : Enables the ma nual d etail adju stment (au tomat ic optimiz ation will not be performed) .

43 Recordin g/Playback • If the GPS indicator does not become a triangulating status indicator even after several minutes, the camcorder is having trouble with receiving GPS signals. You may start recording if you do not need to record location information, or go to a locat ion with access to the open sky.
44 • The longer the recording time, the poore r the image quality. • The camcorder does not perform relay recor ding with the memory cards during [SMOOT H SLOW REC]. If the space on the memory card is insuffi cient, the cam corder records movies only as long as there is sp ace available.

You can display the V ISUAL INDE X screen also by pre ssing the MO DE button , followed by touc hing [PLAY] t [VIS UAL INDEX] on the screen.

91 Troubles hooting The battery pack discharges too quickly. • Ambient temper ature is too high or low, or the b attery pack has not been ch arged enough. This is not a malfunct ion. • Fully charge the batte ry again. If the proble m persists, the bat tery may be worn-out.
92 Trouble shooting (Continu ed) The remaining movi e recording indicator is no t displayed. • Set [ REMAINING] to [ON] to always disp lay the remaining movie recording ind icator (p. 84). The camcorder d oes not operate with the memory card inserted.
93 Troubles hooting The imaging field looks different. • The imaging field m ay look different depending on the condition of your c amcorder. This is not a mal funct ion. The actual recording time for movies is less than the expected recording time of the recording media.
