5 Getting started Getting started Assembly Before you start using your phone, you need to in sert a SIM ca rd and the battery. To insert the SIM card 1 Remove the ba ttery co ver. 2 Slide the SIM card into its holder with the gold coloured contacts facing down.

14 Getting started To view memory card options 1 From stand-by select Menu > Organizer > File manager > the On memory card tab. 2 Select Options . Handling files You can move and copy f iles between your phone, a computer and a memory card. Files are saved on the memory card first and then in the phone memory.
15 Getting started Phone language You can select a language to use in your phone. To change the phone language 1 From stand-by select Menu > Settings > the General tab > Language > Phone language . 2 Select an option. Entering text You can us e multitap text input or T9 ™ Text Input to enter text.
16 Calling Calling Making and receiving calls You need to turn on your phone and be within range of a network. To make a call 1 From stand-by en ter a phon e number (with international country c ode and area code, if applicable). 2 Press . See Video call on page 17.
17 Calling Networks Your phone switches automatically between GSM and 3G (UMTS) net works depending on availability. Som e network operators allow you to switch networks manually. To switch networks manually 1 From stand-by select Menu > Settings > the Connectivit y tab > Mobile networks > GSM/3G networks .
18 Calling Default contact You can choose which contact information is s how n as default. If Phone contacts is selected as default, your contacts show all the information saved in Contacts . If you select SIM contacts as default, your contacts show names and numbe rs saved on the SIM card.

28 Messaging Messaging Receiving and saving messages You are notifi ed when you receive a message. Message s are automatica lly saved in the phone memor y. When the phone memory is full , you can delete messages or save them on a memo ry card or on the SIM car d.
29 Messaging To copy and paste text in a text message 1 When you write the m essage, se lect Options > Copy & paste . 2 Select Copy all or Mark & co py . Scroll to and mark text in the message. 3 Select Options > Copy & paste > Paste .
30 Messaging To create and send a picture message 1 From stand-by sele ct Menu > Messaging > Write new > Picture msg . 2 Enter text. To add items to the message, press and hold down , scroll right and select an item. 3 Select Cont. > Contacts look-up .

41 Entertainment Playlists You can create playlists to org anize files. You can sort the files by artist or title. Files can be added to more than one playlist . Deleting a playlis t, or a file from a playlis t, does not dele te the file from th e memory, just the reference to the fil e.
42 Entertainment To install Media Manager 1 Turn on your computer and insert the CD. The CD star ts automatically and the installation wi ndow opens. 2 Select a language and click OK . 3 Click Install Sony Ericsson Media Manager and follow the instructions.
