3 SIM card The SIM (Subscribe r Identity Module) ca rd, which you get from your n etwork operator, con tains information about your subscription . Always tur n off your phone and detach the charg er and the battery before you insert or remov e the SIM car d.
4 Charging the battery The phone battery is partly char ged when y ou buy it. It takes approximately 2.5 hours to fully charge the batte ry. To charge the battery 1 Connect the charge r to the phone with the the power icon on the charger facing upwar ds.
5 Memory Stick Micro™ Your phone supports Memory Stick Micro™ (M2™). A memory card adds more storage space to your phone, for mu sic, ringtones, vi deo clips, pictures and so on. You can sha re your saved information by moving or copying it to other memory card compatibl e devices.
6 Turning on the phone To turn on the phone 1 Press and hold down . 2 Enter your SIM card PIN, if requested. 3 Select Yes to use the setup wizard. Standby After you have turned on the phone an d entered your PIN, the name of your operator appears on the screen.
7 Network coverage The network bars show the strength of the GS M network in your ar ea. Move to anoth er location if you have prob lems calling and network coverage is poor.

14 Walkman™ The Walkman™ play er is a music and video player. The file types supported are: MP3, MP4, 3GP, AAC, AMR, MIDI, IMY, EMY and WAV (16 kHz maximum sample rat e).
15 To transfer files in Mass storage mode 1 Connect the USB cable to the phone and the compute r. 2 Phone: From standby select Men u > Settings > the Connectivity tab > USB > Mass storage . 3 Computer: Wait until the phone memory and memory card appear as external disks in Microsoft Windows Explor er.
16 Playlists To organise the media files that are saved in File manage r, you can crea te playlists. To create a playlist 1 From standby selec t Menu > WALKMAN > Options > My musi c > My playlists > New playlist . 2 Enter a name and select OK .

18 To play music 1 From standby press . 2 Browse for songs by artist, track, or in playlists. Scroll to a list and select Open . 3 Scroll to a titl e select Play . PlayNow™ With PlayNow you can preview, buy and download music via the Interne t. You can find PlayNo w in Menu > Play Now™ .
19 Radio To listen to the radio 1 Connect the hands free to the phone. 2 From standby selec t Menu > Radio . To control the radio • Press or to search for FM radio channels. To save an FM radio channel • Select Options > Save . • Scroll to a position and press Select .
20 Imaging Camera and video recorder You can take pictures and record video clips to view, save or send. You can find your saved pictures and video clips in Menu > File manager > Camera album . To take a picture 1 Press and hold down to activate the ca mera.
21 To record a video clip 1 Press and hold down to activate th e camera. 2 Press or to scroll to . 3 Press fully down to start re cording. The vide o clip is automatically saved on th e memory card, if a memory card is inserted. If not, the vi deo clip is saved in the phone memory.
22 Calling You must turn on the phon e and be within range of a netwo rk. To make a call 1 From standby enter a phone number (with international country code and area co de, if applicable). 2 Press . To end a call • Press . To answer a call • Press .
23 To make international calls 1 From standby press and hold down until a + sign appears on the screen. 2 Enter the coun try code, area code (wit hout the first ze ro) and phone number . 3 Press . To view missed calls fr om standby • When Missed calls: is displayed, select View .
24 To add contacts to speed dial numbers 1 From standby selec t Menu > Settings > the Calls tab > Speed dial . 2 Select a position number and pre ss . 3 Enter a number or select Contacts > OK . 4 Scroll to a sele ction and select OK > OK .
25 Messaging Text messages (SMS) You must have a ser vice cent re number, whic h is supplied by your service provider and saved on the SIM card. You may have to ent er the numb er yourself. To write and send a text message 1 From standby selec t Menu > Messaging > Write new > Text message .
26 Picture messages (MMS) Picture mes sages can contain tex t, sound and images. They are sent using MMS to a mobile phone. You nee d the correct Inter net settings in your phone to use this function. See Internet on page 32. To create a picture message 1 From standby selec t Menu > Messaging > Write new > Picture msg .
27 Contacts You can save con tacts in t he phone memory or on th e SIM card. You can copy contacts from the phone me mory to t he SIM card or from t he SIM ca rd to th e phone me mory. Default contacts You can choose whic h contact info rmation is shown as de fault.
28 Phone contacts Phone contacts can cont ain names, phone numbers and personal infor mation. T hey are save d in the phone memory. To add a phone contact 1 From standby selec t Menu > Contacts > New contact . 2 Scroll to Last name: and select Add .

30 Bluetooth™ Bluetooth™ wireless technolo gy allows wire less connection to other Bluetooth devices, for example, a Bluetooth headset . You can c onnect to several devices at the same tim e or exchange i tems. To turn the Bluetooth function on • From standby select Menu > Settings > the Connectivity tab > Bluetooth > Turn on .

32 Internet You need the correc t Internet settings in your phone . If the settings are n ot in your phone, you can: • Get them in a text me ssage from th e network operato r. • On a computer, go to www.sonyericsson.com/support and request a text message wi th the settings.
33 More functions Shortcuts The shortcut menu gives you qu ick access to c ertain functions . To open the shortcut menu • Press . 36 SIM card lock Your PIN and PUK are supplied by your network operator. To unblock your SIM card 1 When PIN blocked is displayed, select Unlock . 2 Enter your PUK and s elect OK . 3 Enter a new PIN and sel ect OK . 4 To confirm, re-e nter the new PIN and sel ect OK .
37 Phone lock The phone l ock protects the phone again st unauthor ised use. You can change the phone lock code (0000 by default) to any four-digit code. To edit your phone lock code 1 From standby select Menu > Settings > the General tab > Security > Locks > Phone protection > Change code .
38 Master reset If you experienc e problems with your ph one, suc h as screen flick ering, scree n freezing, or navigati on problems, you should reset the phone. To reset the phone • From standby select Menu > Settings > the General tab > Reset all > Cont.
