6 Introduction Introduction Congratul ations and thank y ou for buying the Sony Ericsson GPRS / Wir eless L AN PC Card GC79. The GC79 is a combined wireless LAN (WLAN) adapt er and trip le band GSM p roduct that enables you to comm unicate w irelessly from you r laptop on all fiv e continents , in over one hu ndred and sixty coun tries.

Getting Started 9 High Speed Circuit Switched Data (HSCSD) HSCSD is an enchanced GSM netw ork capability of fered by some n etwork operators. It enables circuit switched data connections to run at a higher data sp eed, using m ore than one wireless ‘timeslot’ for the data transm ission.
10 In stal lat ion Inst allation The Wireless Manager CD-R OM contains the sof tware required to operate your GC79. The softw are is simple to set up and operate.
Installation 11 If you want to us e your other PC card slot remove th e GC79 whils t you ins ert the other card. See Safe Removal of the GC79 on page 39 for more details. When the GC79 isn 't in use it is recomm ended that you store it in th e protective carrier pr ovided.

14 Create a GP RS, HSCSD or CSD Connection Fixed: The sam e fixed usernam e and passw ord for all users. Check or enter the usern ame and passw ord and tick the Save Password bo x. Per son al: You have a personal usern ame and passw ord. You may enter them here and tick the Save Pas sword box.

16 Create a GP RS, HSCSD or CSD Connection Using your Connection T o Connec t 1. Open W ireless Manager . 2. If requested enter y our SIM Card PI N and click OK . The S tatus screen is displayed. 3. Select the connection you require from the drop down list and click Connect .

22 Create a Wire less LA N Connection Disabling the Radio To disable the GC79 wireless L AN radio, right click and select Disable Radio. To enable the radio, right click and select Enable Radio. Alternativ ely, us e the Disable/Enable button on the rig ht hand side of the Wireless Man ager Status screen or the option in the File m enu.

The network bridge m anages y our netw ork segm ents, and creates a single IP subnet for the entire netw ork.
