6 Getting started Getting started Assembly Before you start using your phone, you need to insert a SIM card and the battery. To insert the SIM card 1 Remove the battery cover by pressi ng and sliding it as show n in the picture. 2 Slide the SIM card into its holder with the gold-coloured contacts facing down.

19 Getting started Stroke input A Chinese character is built up of st ro kes . There are more than 30 basic strokes, which are grouped into 5 stroke categories. Each category is represented on the keypad by one of the keys – . The Wild Card key , is used when you are not sure of which stroke to use.
20 Getting started Components The basic building units of Chinese characters are components that are made up of strokes. After entering the first two strokes of the desired character, the component and character candidates that started with that stroke are displayed in the candidat e row.
21 Getting started Pinyin input Press the keys containi ng the required Pinyin letters, and the phone will make various proposa ls on the screen, according to the pronunciation rules of Mandarin. Below is the key mapping of Pinyin letters on the keypad.
22 Calling Calling Making and receiving calls You need to turn on your phone and be within range of a network. To make a call 1 From standby enter a phone number (with internationa l country/regio n code and area code, if appli cable). 2 Press . To end a call • Press .
23 Calling Emer gency calls Your phone supports international emergency numbers, for example, 112 and 911. These numbe rs can normally be used to make emergency calls in any country/region, wi th or without the SIM card inserte d, if a GSM network is within range.

Then enter the entire multi- letter name, pure i nitial or mixed initial pinyin of Chinese co ntacts you want to call. When a contact is written in Latin ch aracters, the entered letter can reach the Latin contact you want to call; when a contact is written in Chinese cha racters, the entered letter can re ach the pinyin of Chinese contac t you want to call.

32 Calling Conference calls With a conference c all, you can have a joint conversation with up to five people. To add a new participant 1 During the call, selec t Options > Hold call . This puts the joined calls on hold. 2 Select Options > Add call .
33 Calling Restricted dialling You can restrict outgoing and i ncoming calls. A password from your service provider is required. Restrict calls options Standard options a re: • All outgoing – all outgoing ca lls • Outgoing intl – all outgoing international calls • Outgoing intl roam.
34 Messaging Call time and cost During a call, the dura tion of the call is shown. You can check the duration of your last call, outgoing calls and the total time of your calls. To check the call time • From standby sel ect Menu > Settings > the Calls tab > Time & cost > Call timers .
35 Messaging Text messages Text messages ca n contain simple pictures, sound effects, animati ons, and melodies. Before you use messa ging You must have a service centre number. The number is supplied by yo ur service provider and is usually saved o n the SIM card.
36 Messaging Picture messages Picture messages can co ntain text, pictures, slides, sound recordings, video clips, signatures an d attachments. You can send picture messages to a mobi le phone or an emai l address. Before you use picture messaging You must set an MMS profi le and the address of your me ssage server.
37 Messaging Message opti ons You can set standa rd options for all messages or cho ose specific settings each time you se nd a message. To set text message options 1 From standby select Menu > Messaging > Settings > Text message . 2 Scroll to an option and se lect Edit .
38 Messaging Email You can use stan dard email functio ns and your computer email address in your phone. Before you use email You can use the setup wizard to check if settings a re available f or your email account or you can enter them manually. You can also rec eive settings at www.
