7 To Do this Play (from the point you stopped) Push the 3-way control ke y toward N / > . Playback starts from the point you stopped. Play (from the first track) Push the control key to ward N / > and hold it for 2 seconds or more. Stop Press x •RADIO OFF/CHG.
8 About the display • When you push the 3-way control ke y toward N / > after changing the CD or turning of f and on the player , the total number of tracks in the CD and total playing time appear for about two seconds. • During play , the track number and the elapsed playing time of the current track appear .
9 Playback options Y ou can enjoy various ways of playback using PLA Y MODE and REPEA T/ENTER. PLA Y MODE button Each time you press the button, you can change the playback mode.
10 Playing tracks repeatedly (Repeat play) Y ou can play tracks repeatedly in normal, single, shuffle and PGM play modes. During playbac k, press REPEA T/ENTER. Playing a single track (Single play) During playbac k, press PLA Y MODE repeatedly until “1” appears.
11 Playing tracks in your favorite or der (PGM play) Y ou can program the CD player to play up to 64 tracks in your fav orite order. 1 During playbac k, press PLA Y MODE repeatedly until “PGM” appears. 2 Push the 3-way contr ol key towar d . or N / > to select a trac k.
12 Using the radio Once you’ ve stored your fa vorite stations, you can easily tune in the station with any band and frequency setting by pressing one of the 1 - 3 b uttons. Listening to the radio Y ou can enjoy TV , WB (weather band), FM and AM programs.
13 To improve broadcast r eception F or TV/WB/FM, extend the headphones/earphones cord. F or AM, reorient the CD player itself. Note K eep the headphones/earphones connected to the i jack of the CD player . The headphones/earphones cord w orks as the TV/WB/FM antenna.
14 Presetting your favorite radio stations Y ou can store your favorite radio stations into the CD player’ s memory . Y ou can store up to 3 stations with any band and frequenc y setting. 1 T une in the station you want. 2 Hold down one of the 1 - 3 buttons that y ou want to store the new station on f or 2 seconds or more.
15 Presetting radio stations Y ou can preset up to 51 stations: 7 for TV , 4 for WB, 30 for FM and 10 for AM. 1 Press TV , WB, FM or AM to select the band (direct po wer-on). 2 Press MEMOR Y for 2 seconds or more. Preset number 1 will flash in the display .
16 Changing the tuning interval When using the CD player abroad, change the AM tuning interval, if necessary . Set the STEP switch (inside the lid) to “9 kHz” or “10 kHz” using a pointed material. 9 kHz area: Asia and Europe 10 kHz area: the U.
17 Emphasizing the bass sound (SOUND) Y ou can emphasize the bass-boosted sound. Press SOUND to select “BASS ” o r “BASS .” “B ASS ” enhances the bass sound more than “B ASS .” Note If the sound is distorted when using the SOUND function, turn down the v olume.
18 Protecting your hearing (A VLS) The A VLS (Automatic V olume Limiter System) function keeps do wn the maximum v olume to protect your hearing. Hold down SOUND until “A VLS” appears in the displa y . To turn off the A VLS function Hold down SOUND until “ A VLS” disappears from the display .
19 Tu r n i ng off the operation beep sound Y ou can turn off the beep sound that is heard from your headphones/earphones when you operate your CD player . 1 Remove the po wer source (A C power adaptor , rechar geable batteries or dry batteries) from the CD play er .
20 Notes • Before you play a CD, turn down the v olume of the connected device to a void damaging the connected speakers. • Use the AC po wer adaptor for recording. If you use the rechargeable batteries or dry batteries as a power source, batteries may become completely depleted during recording.
21 Y ou can use the following po wer sources: • Rechargeable batteries •A C power adaptor (see “Playing a CD”) • LR6 (size AA) alkaline batteries F or the battery life and char ging time of the rechargeable batteries, see “Specif ications.

23 Using the dry batteries Use only the following dry battery type for your CD player: • LR6 (size AA) alkaline batteries Note Be sure to remove the AC po wer adaptor when using the dry batteries. 1 Open the battery compartment lid. 2 Insert two LR6 (size AA) batteries by matching the 3 to the diagram in the battery compartment.
24 Precautions On safety • Should any solid objects or liquid fall into the CD player , unplug it and have it checked by qualif ied personnel before operating it any further . • Do not put any foreign objects in the DC IN 4.5 V (external power input) jack.
25 • The supplied headphones are not meant to be immersed in water or come in continuous contact with water . If they are accidentally dropped into water or get wet, dry them with a soft cloth. Nev er use an electric hair dryer . • The supplied A C power adaptor is not w ater resistant.
26 Tr oubleshooting Should any problem persist after you ha ve checked these symptoms, consult your nearest Sony dealer . CD player Symptom The volume does not increase even if the VOL control is adjusted to the maximum level. No sound, or noise is heard.
27 CD player Symptom Playback starts from the point you stopped. (resume function) Rustling noise of the CD is heard. When using with a connected stereo system, the sound is distorted or noisy .
