1 General information General information Congr atulations on the purc hase of a Son im XP3™ mobile phone. The Sonim XP3 phone is fu lly compliant with the recently r atified Open Mobile Al liance (OMA) GSM standar d specification.
2 General information Options commonly used across menu items The follo wing are co mmon acti ons used across various menu items: Press and hold Means to press an d ho ld a key for 2–3 seconds before releasing the key . This action is t ypically u sed when trying to switch on/ off the phone or when using shortkeys to access spec ific functi ons.

5 Your safety guidelines Battery care Battery performance A rechargeable bat tery powers your device. Use the bat tery only for its intended pu rpose. Never use any charger or bat - tery that is da maged.

8 Getting started Getting started Battery information Battery usage Use only an XP3 certified battery , charger or any other accessories th at are design ed for this phone model. The use of other batteries, chargers and accessories may void the warranty terms of your phone and c ause damage.
9 Getting started 4. Close the battery cover . Rotate the bat tery cover screws in a clockwise direc tion. 5. T o remo ve the batt ery , lift the flap behin d the phone and raise the lower end of the battery from the slot. The battery can now be removed.
10 Getting started On > Save or , press Menu key to select the check box beside Battery alert to activ ate the alert. For mor e information on aler ts, refe r “Perso nalize your phone” on page 52. Y our SIM card Purchase a SIM card from your mobile oper ator .
11 Getting started P arts of the XP3 phone The XP3 keypad has seven func tion keys and 12 alphanu- meric keys. The left side of the phone has three keys and the right side of the phone has one k ey . XP3 keypad The various k eypad keys and their corresponding functions are described in the f ollowing figure.
12 Getting started The alpha-numeric keys comprise numbers from one to zero, alphabets from A -Z, plus [*] and [#] k eys. By pressing the designated key you can in put numbers or char acters. Choose the appropriate text in put option to enable y ou to use these keys effici ently .
13 Getting started Basic settings When yo u have switched o n your phone the name of the service prov ider is displaye d. Security settings 1. T o prevent unauthorised use of your phone, you can set a PIN code. The PIN is operator dependent. Once this PIN is activ ated, then only the PI N can be changed to the user’s chosen PIN.
14 Getting started K eypad functions The followi ng table displays the vario us keys and th e corresponding f unctions they perform: Keypad key Operation Power On/Off/End call Press t o end a call (GSM). Press and hold for > 5secs to switch on or switc h off the mobi le phone.
15 Getting started Navigation keys The Left and Right Selec tion keys, Power On/Off and Pickup keys surround th is key group. There are arrows on the key that den ote the directio n to scroll f or informatio n display ed on the screen. Up/Down Press to view the target characters by pages in the text editor .
16 Getting started Press and hold to swi tch on and switch off the lo udspeaker durin g a GSM call. Press and hold in standby mode to displa y Call Alert Type menu. Press and hold to set the Alarm. Press and hold to display the calculator .
17 Make calls Make calls Before maki ng a call you must ensure the f ollowing: Keypad is not locked. A valid SIM car d is installed. Phone battery is charged. Phone is switched on and the network o perator’ s name is displayed.
18 Make calls 3. Choose a contact and select OK to view the date and time of the call. Contacts with in the call list have the follo wing option s: Dial : displays dial opti ons from which to choose. Send SMS: sends an SMS message to the specified contact.
19 Make calls 1. T o receiv e a call, pr ess the Accept key (this key is used to s end and accept a c all). 2. T o reject a call press t he Power on/off key . 3. T o receive another call while y ou are already speaking, the call wait ing feature for GSM calls should be ena- bled via the Settings menu.
20 Make calls Call barring Y ou can set Call barring facilit y for out going calls, int erna- tional calls, loc al calls and all inco ming or roaming inco ming calls. 1. T o set Call barring settings select Menu > Settings Call settings > OK > Call barring > OK .
21 Make calls Use the Menu key as a toggle k ey to select and clear the checkbox besid e the Auto redial option to enable and disable the fu nction. 2. When you redial a number , you are prompted with the message Redi al ? Select OK to r edial, select Exit to stop redialing.
22 Make calls Phone book : Allows you to open the phone bo ok list to select and transfer a number to the black list. Search for black listed numbers 1. T o locate a black listed number , on the Call filter screen, select Black list > Search > OK .
23 Make calls Display cost : if enabled, displays the duration and charges of the call. D isabled mode is the default mode. If you want to enable this function, you need to acquire a PIN2 code from your network operator . Accum. charges : this service i s only av ailable when your SIM card contains chargi ng information.
24 Your XP3 phone Your XP3 phone This model is a bar t ype phone with a si ngle LCD scre en. The graphic f ield of the screen is 128 (w) and 160 (h) pix - els.
25 Your XP3 phone The following table describes the display indicators a vailable in the XP3 phone: Display indicators Name Description Battery Four clear bars indicate maximum battery charge. Opaque bars indicate dec line in bat- tery charge. Roaming This icon is only dis- played when your ph one is registered with a non- home network.
26 Your XP3 phone Settings Y ou can cre ate and modif y var ious set tings on y our XP3 phone. 1. On the Standby screen select Menu > S ettings to display the op tions. Ringer settings Y ou can set different tunes for your incoming calls, SMS alerts and alarms.
27 Your XP3 phone 2. Choose between Standard T unes or O wn melodies and select OK . S elect Exit to move to the Incoming call screen. Similarly ringtones can be set for SMS alerts and alarms. For more information refer“P ersonalize your phone” on page 52.
28 Your XP3 phone Backlight: keeps the screen display active f or the period chosen by you. The duration could be 30 sec- onds, a minute or three minutes. Shortcuts: a l l o w s y o u t o a s s i g n a hotkey for a specific func tion . 1.
29 Your XP3 phone Attach GPRS : permits continuous GPRS conn ectivity when the option Always attached is selected. Select Attached during PDP session , if you want GPRS connectiv ity only w hen requir ed. Register again : all ows you to regi ster your p hon e to a diff erent network.
30 Your XP3 phone Manage the phone bo ok Y ou can use the phone book to maintain phone numbers of your contacts. This feature enab les yo u to add, delete, dial phone numbers and send SMS messag es. T o access the phone book, on the home screen select Phonebk , or selec t Menu > Phone book > Select .
31 Your XP3 phone To send a nam ecard by Blue tooth: 1. Select Phonebk > View list > OK . 2. Scroll to the contact name an d select Option > Send namecard > Send by Bluetooth > OK . 3. Select the pai red device to whic h you want to send the namecard.
32 Your XP3 phone To move all records from SIM c ard to Phone memory Select Phonebk > Advanced > OK > Move all from SIM to phone > OK . Moved records get deleted from the so urce location . All the records moved f rom the SIM car d will not be a vailable in the SIM memory thereafter .
33 Messages Messages SMS is a convenient and inexpensive means of communica- tion. Y ou can send a text message to other people via this service. Y ou can use the SMS menu in your phone to send an SMS message to other mobile phone s or any other equipment that can receive SMS.
34 Messages Te x t i n p u t m o d e When you enter text, the input mode is displayed at the top right of the screen. Press and re lease the # key to view th e different text input mod es, such as, Conventional (Abc ), Predictive (T9) and numeric (123).
35 Messages For more inf ormation, refer point 6 of “Conventio nal text input” on page 34. W rite messages 1. T o create a message select Menu > Messages > SMS > Write message > OK . OR Press the Right navigation key as a shortcut to the Write message screen.
36 Messages Call or save a number embedded in a received SMS It is possible to ca ll a number embedded in a received SMS. 1. Select Messages > SMS > Inbox > open the mes- sage. 2. Select Option > Save number from text . The number is disp layed.
37 Messages 4. P res s Menu > Option > Send now … to send the message. If you have not stored the number , press Menu > Option > Forward . En ter the phone number , select Option > Send now . Sent messages T ransmitted messages are stored in Sent mes sages folder if Send & save is selected while se nding.
38 Hardcoded Shortcuts Hardcoded Shortcuts The followi ng is the list of hardcoded shortcuts. Long press center button - Silences the incoming call ringtone . Long press 3 or the right arrow key - Swit ches the speaker mode during a GSM call.
39 WAP WAP This mobile phone has an in ternal WAP browser (version 2.0) that allo ws you to bro wse contents o f variou s WAP websites on th e Internet. This facility is made available on ly if you subs cribe to a dat a service f rom you r network op erator for Inte rnet access .
40 WAP Browser options : If web pages cont ain pictures, you can choose whether to show these pictures in this menu by selecting the op tion Show images. If you choose the Enable refresh option in this menu the web pages get refreshed . Rename profile : Specify a name f or the selected pro- file in this menu.
41 Opera Mini Opera Mini Opera Mini is a web browser designed for mobile phones. It uses the Java ME platform an d consequently requires that the mobile device be capable of running Ja va ME app lica- tions. Opera Mini is offered free of charge. This mobile phone has a copy of Opera Mini pre-installed.
43 Tools Tools T ools are us ed to organize and manage your dai ly tasks sys- tematically . Organizer The Organizer has a calendar to enable you to set appoint- ments, create appropriate notes , schedule reminders wh en required, set alerts and repeat specif ic settings.
44 Tools Edit organizer entries 1. Select Menu > Tools > Organizer . 2. Scroll to a date and press the Menu key to disp lay the list of entries. 3. Choose an entry (either meeting or memo) and select Option > Change . Delete entries Y ou can delete one entry at a time or all entries simul tane- ously .
45 Tools Audio rec order Select Menu > Tools > Au dio recorder > OK . 1. T o recor d an audi o file, on th e Audio re corder scre en select Record . 2. Select Pause to temporarily stop th e recording. 3. Select Retrieve to continue with the r ecording.

Send Data Y ou can connect several Bluetooth dev ices at a time. If you are connected to a headset, yo u can also tr ansfer the files to another compat ible device at the same t ime.

50 Use Handsfree mode for calls Use Handsfree mode for calls The handsfree mode can be used for GSM calls. Y ou can use the answer/end call button on the headset phone or the remote control button in the Car Kit which enables you to talk on the phone wit hout holding the phone.

There are four envir onment profiles present in this phon e. Normal is the default profile, while the other profiles ar e Silent, Meeting, Outdoors and Use in ca r .
