These instructions as well as guidance from y our hearing instrument specialist will help you understand how y our new hearing system works.

4 Description of y our ARTIS custom hearing sy stem Y our hearing system is individually manufactured accor ding to the shape of your ears or ear canals. 1. First Microphone 2. Second microphone T winMic TM (optional) 3. Battery compartment 4. Program butt on (optional) 5.
5 Inserting the batter y : Befor e using your hearing instru- ment, place the battery into the bat- tery compar tment door . Using the fingernail of either your thumb or index finger , pull the tab on the bat- tery compar tment door outward until the door swings open all the way (see illustration).
Place the proper size batt er y into the battery compar tment door , making sure that the "+" symbol on the smoo th side of the battery matches the "+" symbol on the edge of the battery compartment door , as shown in the illustration.
7 Caution: K eep batteries and instruments aw ay from the reac h of small children. Batteries can be harmful if swallo wed. If swallo wed consult a ph ysician or a hospital immediately .
8 Inser ting and remo ving y our custom hearing sy stem Hold the hearing instrument with your thumb and index finger , carefully push the instrument in the ear canal. Gently work it into its proper position b y slightly twisting until it is firmly seated.
9 T o remo ve the hearing instrument, push lightly on the back of your ear to help loosen it or pull gently on your ear . Then using your inde x finger , slowly pull the hearing instrument from y our ear . The complet ely -in-the-canal hearing instruments can be remov ed by pulling the small removal cor d towar d the back of your head.
10 T urning y our hearing syst em on and of f Using the batter y compartment Insert a batter y into y our ARTIS hearing instrument and com- plet ely close the compartment to turn the instrument on. T o turn the instrument off using the batter y compartment, open the compartment completely .
11 e2e wireless TM f or ARTIS e2e syst ems Unique to y our ARTIS e2e hearing system is the e2e (ear -to-ear) wireless TM t echnology . The wireless functionality: - Automatically adjusts the system t o change both hearing instruments simultaneously to adapt t o different list ening situations.
12 ePoc k et TM accessor y f or ARTIS e2e syst ems Wireless remote control - ePock et TM (accessor y) With the wireless function y ou also hav e the possibility of using the ePock et (bi-directional remo te control) fr om Siemens. With it, you can change the pr ogram and volume of your hearing syst em and read out the syst em settings.
13 Using the program butt on Y our ARTIS hearing system can hav e up to 4 pr ograms. They can be selected with the pr ogram button. For ARTIS e2e systems The programs can be c hanged with the ePock et. (For instructions on selecting programs with the ePock et, refer t o the ePocke t user guide).
14 Using the directional microphone system (where provided) According t o your hearing needs, your ARTIS hearing syst em can be adjusted t o focus on those sounds in front of y ou (directional mode) when you ar e having a face-to-face conv ersation in a noisy environment.
V olume control Y our ARTIS hearing system is ful ly automatic. Ther e is no need to manually adjust the v olume control. How ever , if y ou prefer manual volume contr ol, your ARTIS hearing system can be prog rammed for manual adjustment, too.
16 Using the telephone Automatic telephone program (Not all syst ems) With A utoPhone functionality , your Artis hearing system will automa- tically switch to the t elephone pro- gram when you hold a hearing- instrument-compatible-telephone handset near t o your hearing ins- trument.
17 Note: Magnets can pose risks to electr onics and magnetic st orage mediums when placed in close pro ximity. T ake car e not to set magne ts near computers, color monit ors, television se ts, floppy discs, video/audio tape and ot her electronic equipment.
18 Maintenance and care Y our new ARTIS hearing syst em is a highly sensitive system. Proper car e and handling will ensure best possible performance. If soreness or skin irritation dev elops in the ear , discontinue wearing your hearing syst em, and bring it to y our hearing instrument specialist.

Occasionally bring your hearing system t o your hearing instrument specialist to change the wax guar d, clean the venting channel, the microphone and sound outle ts, and for general syst em maintenance. Y our hearing instrument specialist will make sur e that the hearing system functions corr ectly and fits properly in y our ear .
20 Impor tant not es • Never expose your hearing syst em to extr eme temperatur es or high humidity. Do no t store it in direct sunlight. Do not wear it when taking a show er or when applying hairspray . • As with all electrical, non gas-encapsulated syst ems, the hearing system must no t be operated in explosion- endangered r ooms.
21 T roubleshooting tips Y our ARTIS hearing system is an extr emely reliable device. Howe ver , should a problem occur , this can usually be corrected quickly .
