10 PART NAMES AND FUNCTIONS (1) Automatic document feeder This automatically feeds a nd scans multiple originals. Both sides of 2-sided originals can be scanned at once. (2) Document feeder tray Place the originals in thi s tray when using the automati c document feeder.
11 (11) Front cover Open to replace a toner cartridge. (12) Bypass tray Special types of paper and envelopes can be fed from the bypass tray. (13) USB connector (B type) Supports USB 2.0 (Hi-Speed). A computer can be connected to this connector to use th e machine as a printer.

13 LOGOUT Numeric keys Main power indicator Numeric keys These are used to enter the number of copies, f ax numbers, and other numbers. [LOGOUT] key ( ) When user authentication is enabled, press this ke y to log out after using the machine. When using the f ax function, this ke y can be pressed to send tone signals on a pulse dial line.
14 USING THE OPERATION PANEL This sectio n explains th e procedu res for selectin g setting items in the screen. The base screen of copy mode is used as an example. SELECTING SETTING ITEMS The frame that appears in the disp lay is the selection frame.
15 ITEMS IN THE DISPLAY Useful items in the display are explained below. Messages appear here. An operation hint appears here. Numbers in the f or mat "1/2" indicate that there are more items. These numbers mean "current screen / total number of screens".
16 Important operations to know (1) When a checkbox is selected and the [O K] key is pressed, a checkmark will appear to indi cate that th e setting is en abled. (2) can be used to increase or decrease a value. To make the value change quickly, hold down the [OK] key.
17 USER AUTHENTICATION When user authent ication is enabled, you must log in befo re using the machine. User au thenticati on is initially disabled. When you have finished us ing the machine, log out. User authentication methods There are two methods fo r performing user auth entication: login b y user number and login by login name and pa ssword.
18 Logging out When you have finishe d using the m achine, log ou t. Logging out prevents unauthor ised use of the mach ine. How to log out You can log out from any mode of the machine by pressing the [L OGOUT] key ( ).
19 IMAGE CHECK FUNCTION (PREVIEW) The image check function is used to display the content of a received fax or other data in the disp lay. Convenient uses of image check "Printing only faxes that are needed" You can check a received fax before print ing it.
20 PLACING ORIGINALS The automatic document f eeder can be used to autom atically scan many originals at once. Th is saves you the trou ble of manually feeding each original. For originals that cann ot be scanned using the aut omatic document feeder , such as a book or a document with notes at tached, use the document glass.
21 Place the o riginal in the h orizontal orien tation, refer ring to the do cument glass scale. Portrait originals When using the below fun ctions in copy mode, place the origin al so that the top of the image is to the right .
22 CHANGING PAPER IN A TRAY Names of the trays The names of the t rays are shown below. For the number of sheets of paper that can be loaded in each tr ay, see the following manuals: • Operation Guide, "Paper Tray Settings" in "6.
23 Loading paper in a tray To change the paper in a tray, load the desir ed paper in the tray and the n change the tray settin gs in the machine to specify the loaded paper.
24 Changing the tray settings When you change the paper i n a tray, t he tray settings in the system settings must also be changed. 1 Press the [SYSTEM SETTINGS] key. 2 Configure the tray setting s. (1) Select the [Pap er Tray Settings] key . Select with and press [OK].

28 BASE SCREEN OF COPY MODE Press the [COPY] key in t he operation panel to open the base screen o f copy mode. Select copy settings in the ba se screen. (1) [Original] key Select this key to enter the original size manually. After placing the original, select this key to set the original size.

41 FITTING THE COPY IMAGE TO THE PAPER (Automatic Ratio Selection) You can copy an original onto an y size of paper using automatic enlargement/ reduction. This section explains how to copy an A5 original onto A4 paper. 1 Place the originals. When using the document glass, place the original wi th the side to be scanned face down.

45 INTERRUPTING A COPY RUN (Interrupt Copy) When the machine is printing, you can temporarily interru pt the job and perfor m a copy job that you wish to prioritize. This feature is us eful when you need to make an ur gent copy du ring a long copy run.
46 STORING COPY OPERATIONS (Job Programs) You can store a group of copy set tings. The settings can be retrie ved and used whenever needed. When you frequent ly use the same group of set tings, this saves you the trouble of manually select ing the settings each time yo u need to use them.

54 Copying a large number of originals at once (Job Build) Adding inserts when copying on transparency film (Transparency Inserts) Copying two original pages onto one sheet of paper (2in1) A stack of originals higher t han the indicator line on the automatic docume nt feeder cannot be fe d through the feeder.

Printing Printing 59 This section exp lains the basic proc edure for printing using the printer d river of the m achine. The settings that can be selected in the printe r driver are also introd uced. The explanations of screens and procedure s are primarily for Windows Vista ® in Windows ® en vironments, and Mac OS X v10.
60 PRINTING This section explains the basic pro cedures for printing. The following example explains ho w to print a A4 size document from WordPad, w hich is a stan dard acces sory program in Windows. To install the printer driver and configure settings in a Windo ws environment, see "2.

64 The following example explains ho w to print an A4 size document from "TextEdit" ("SimpleText" in Ma c OS 9), which is a standard accessory program on Macintosh comp uters. In a Macintosh en vironment, the PS3 expansion kit must be installed to use the machine as a network prin ter.
65 Printing a file 1 Execute printing from TextEdit. (1) Open the [File] menu. (2) Select [Print]. In Mac OS 9, select [Print] from the [File] menu of Simple Text. 2 Select print settings and click the [Print] button. (1) Make sure the correct printer is se lected.
66 CANCELLING PRINTING (AT THE MACHINE) You can ca ncel a print job if you canc el before p rinting actually begins. 1 Press the [JOB STATUS] key. 2 Select settings. (1) Change the job status mode to [Print Job] . Select either of the keys with the keys and press the [OK] key.
67 SELECTING PRINT SETTINGS To use the print function o f the machine, the setti ngs in the printer driver properties window mu st be configured. See "PRINTING" (pa ge 60) for the procedure for opening the printer driver properties win dow and the basic procedure f or printi ng.

74 BASE SCREEN OF FAX MODE Press the [IMAGE SEND] key in the operation panel to open t he base screen of fax m ode. If the scr een does not appe ar, select the [Mo de Switch] key and then the [Fax] key. Select fax settings in the base screen. (1) [Mode Switch] key Use this key to change th e mode of the image send functi on.
75 (6) key / key / key When "Hol d Setting for Receiv ed Data Print" or "Received Dat a Image Check Setting" is enabled in the system settings (administrator), this will appear when a fax is received.
76 SENDING A FAX The basic procedure for sending f axes is explained below. In fax mode, colour or iginals are sent as black and white images. 1 Press the [IMAGE SEND] key. The base screen of fax mode appears. If the screen does not appear, select the [Mode Switch] key and then the [Fax] key.
77 CHANGING THE SIZE OF A FAX The size of the original and the transmission size can be specified bef ore transmission. This is con venient when f axing an origin al that is sm all and difficu lt to read. The procedure for faxing both sides of an A4 orig inal at A3 size is explained below.

81 CHANGING THE RESOLUTION The resolution can be sel ected to match the char acteristics of the origin al, such as text or phot o, the size of the text , and the darkness of th e image. The following example explains ho w to se t the resolution to [Fine] an d [Half Tone] when sending an or iginal with small text.
82 STORING A FAX NUMBER Storing an individual key One touch ke ys can be stor ed in the Web page. Select [Address Book] in the Web page menu t o open the "Address Book" page. You can store fax numbers in one-touch keys. Stored fax num bers can be re trieved quickly and easily.

86 CONVENIENT DIALLING METHODS Easy to us e one-touch ke ys and the r esend funct ion can be us ed to prevent dialling errors and save time. One-touch keys A fax number stored in a one-touch key can be retr ieved by a simple operation of th e key.
87 Resending The [Resend] key can be select ed to transmit to one of the eight m ost recent destination s used for transmissio n. Resending is not possible in some cases, such as wh en an image is sent using a one-touch key for a grou p. Speed dialling When you store an individual key or a group key, a 3-digit search numb er is assigned to the key.
88 Dialling using the speaker When the speaker is used to dial, fax transmission is started after the number is dialled and the connection is established. If a per son answers, you will be able to hear his or her vo ice, but you will not be able to speak.
89 SENDING THE SAME FAX TO MULTIPLE DESTINATIONS (Broadcast Transmission) The same document /image can be sent to multiple fax mode, scan m ode, and In ternet fax mode destination s in a single oper ation.

Scanning Scanning 97 This sectio n explains th e uses of the network s canner function and the ba sic procedure for using scan mode. I n addition, special modes th at can be used with the network scanner function ar e introduced. The Inter net fax expans ion kit is requ ired to use the Internet fax function .
98 NETWORK SCANNER FUNCTION The netw ork scanner function of the machine can be use d to transmit scanned images by a variety of met hods. The network scan ner function has the following modes. • Modes that can be used will vary depending on your model and the expansion ki ts that are installed.
99 BASE SCREEN OF SCAN MODE Press the [IMAGE SEND] key in the operation panel to open t he base screen of scan mode. If th e screen does not appear , select the [Mode Switch] key and th en the [Scan] key. Select various scan settings in th e base screen.
100 (7) [Resend] key / [Next A ddress] key The destinations of the most recent eight transmissions by Scan to E-mail, fax and/or Internet fax (including Direct SMTP addresses) are stored. To select one of these destinations, select the desired destination.
101 SCANNING AN ORIGINAL The basic operation for scanning is explained below. This section explains how to send a scanned file by e-mail. 1 Press the [IMAGE SEND] key. The base screen of scan mode appears. If the screen doe s not appear, select the [Mod e Switch] key and then the [Scan] key.
