6 INTR ODUCTION Using the manual This machine has been designed to provide co nvenient copying features in a minimum amount of offi ce space and with maximum operational ease. To get full use of all machine features, be sure to famili arize yourse lf with this manu al and the machine.
7 MAIN FEA TURES High-speed laser copying First-copy time* 1 is only 8.0* 2 seconds. Copying speed is 20 copies per mi nute. This is ideal for business use an d provides a big boost to workplace productivity.

PREP ARA TIONS 13 1 2 Remove all pieces of tape shown in the illustration below and then open the RSPF and remove protective materials. Take out the bag conta ining the TD (T oner/Developer) ca rtridge. 3 Release the scan head locking switch. The scan head locking switch is under the document glass.
14 INST ALLING THE TD (T ONE R/DEVELOPER) CAR TRIDGE 1 Open the bypass t ray, and then ope n the si de cover. 2 Remove the CAUT ION tape from the front cover and remove th e two protective pins from the fusin g machine by pulling the strings upward one at a time.
PREP ARA TIONS 15 1 5 While pushing th e lock release button, gently insert the TD (Toner/Developer) cartridge until it locks into pl ace. 6 Close the front cover and then the side cover by pressing the round projections near the side cover open but ton.
16 PO WER ON AND OFF The power switch is l ocated on the left side of the machi ne. Power on Turn the power switch to th e "ON" position. The ready indicator will light up and other indicators which show the i nitial settings of the display will al so light up to indicate the ready condition.
PREP ARA TIONS 17 1 Power off Make sure that t he machine is not in operation an d then turn the pow er switch to the "OFF" positio n. If the power switch is turn ed off while the machine is in operation, a misfeed may occur and th e job that was in progress will be canceled.
18 2 Chapter 2 The tray location indicator will blin k when there is no paper in the selected paper tray, or when the selected paper tray is not closed or is improperly closed. PA P E R For best results, use only SHARP recommended paper. * 1 The number of sh eets of paper t hat can be loaded varies d epending on the weight of the paper.
LO ADING P APER 19 2 Special papers Follow these guidelines whe n using special papers. ● Use SHARP recommended tr ansparency film and la bel sheets.
LO ADING P APER 20 3 Store the pressure pl ate lock w hich has been remo ved in step 2. To store the pre ssure plate lo ck, rotate the loc k to secure it as shown below. 4 Fan the paper and insert it into the tray. Make sure that the edges go under the corner hoo ks.
21 2 BYP ASS FEED (inc luding special paper) The bypass tray can be used to feed st andard paper, transparency film, labels, envelopes, and other special purp ose paper. Important points when insert ing paper in the bypass tray Up to 50 sheets of standard copy pape r c an be inserte d in the bypass tray.
LO ADING P APER 22 Loading paper in the bypass tray 1 Open the bypass t ray and extend the tray. 2 Set the bypass tray pap er guides to the paper width. Insert the paper (print fa ce down) all the way into the bypass tray. 3 Press the [TRAY SELECT] k ey ( ) to select the bypass tray.
23 2 CHANGING A TRA Y'S P APER SIZE SE TTING Follow these steps to change a tray's pap er size setting. 1 Press the [MENU] key. Press the [ ] key ( ) or [ ] key ( ) until "PAPER SIZE" appears, and then press th e [ENTER] key. 2 Press the [ ] key ( ) or [ ] key ( ) to select the tr ay, and then press the [ENTER] key.
24 3 Chapter 3 This chapter ex plains basic copy ing functions. NORMAL COPYING Using the document glass 1 Open the RSPF, and place the original face down on the document gla ss. [How to place the original] Align the original with the origina l scale and the centering ( ) mark.
MAKING COP IES 25 3 Check RSPF open f unction When enabled i n program number 2 4 (p.65), t his function may he lp prevent wast eful use of toner that occurs when the RSPF cover is not complet ely closed.
MAKING COPIES 26 Originals that cannot be used in th e RSPF The following origin als cannot be u sed. These may cause misfeeds or smudging and unclear images. • T ransparencies, tracing paper , other transparent or translucent paper , and photographs.
MAKING COP IES 27 3 Setting the number of copies Press the numeric keys to set the number of copies . The set number of copies appears in the di splay. A maximum of 99 copies can be set. If you wish to make only a single copy, copying is possible with the display showing "0".
28 MAKING A COPY D ARKER OR LIGHTER Automati c exposure adjustment is ini tia lly enable d. This function automatica lly adjusts the copy image according to th e orig inal being copied. If you wish to select the exposure level yourself, follow the steps below.
29 3 REDUCTION/ENLARGEMENT/ZOOM Copies can be reduced down to 25% or enlarged up to 40 0%. (When the RSPF is being used, the zo om copy ratio range is 50% to 200%.) The [COPY RATIO] key can be pressed to quickly select a ratio from among eig ht preset ratios.
30 4 Chapter 4 A UT OMA TIC TWO-SIDED COPYING Two originals can be automatically copied ont o both sides of a single shee t of paper. When the RSPF is used, two-sided copies of two-sided originals can easily be made.

35 4 COPYING MUL TIPLE ORIGINALS ONT O A SINGLE SHEET OF P APER (2 IN 1 copy) Multiple originals can be copied onto a sing le sheet of paper in a selected layout pattern. This function is convenient for compiling multi-page reference materia ls into a compact format, or for providing an overview of al l pages of a document on a single page.

41 5 BEFORE INST ALLA TION Hardware and software requirements Check the following hardware and software requiremen ts in order to install the software. * 1 The machine's USB connector wil l transfer data at the speed spe cified by the USB 2.0 (Hi-Speed) only if the Mi crosoft USB 2.
42 INST ALLING THE SOFTW ARE Using the machine wi th a USB connection 1 The USB cable must not be conn ected to the machine . Make sure that the cab le is not connecte d before proceedi ng. If the cable is connected, a Plug and Play window will appe ar.
INST ALLING THE SOFTW ARE 43 5 6 Read the "Readme First" in the "Wel come" window and the n click the "Next " button. 7 To install al l of the soft ware, click the "Standard" bu tton and go t o step 12. To install parti cular packag es, click the "Custom" button and go to next step.

INST ALLING THE SOFTW ARE 47 5 Using the machine as a network printer 1 Insert the LAN cabl e into the LAN connector on the machine. Use a network cable that is shielded. 2 Turn on the machine. 3 Insert the CD-ROM int o your computer's CD-ROM driv e.
INST ALLING THE SOFTW ARE 48 Set the IP Address This setting is only required once when using the machine on a network. 8 Click the "Set the IP Address" button. 9 The printer or printers connected to the network wi ll be detected. Click the print er to be configured (the machin e) and click t he "Next" button.

53 5 SETTING UP BU TT ON MANA GER Button Manager is a software program th at works with the scanner driver to enable scanning from the machine. To scan using the machine, Button Manager must be linked with th e scan menu on the machine. Follow the steps below to link Button Manager to scanner even ts.

61 6 HO W T O USE THE ONLINE MANU AL The online manual provides deta iled instructions for operating the unit as a printer and scanner. It also provide s methods for dealing with printing or scanner proble ms. 1 Turn on your computer. 2 Insert the suppli ed CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive.

TROUBLESHOO TING AND MAINTENANCE 76 Plug and play screen does not appear (USB only) If the Plug and Play screen does not appear after you connect the machine to your computer with a USB cable and turn on th e ma chine, follow the steps bel ow to verify that the USB port is available.
TROUBLESHOO TING AND MAINTENANCE 77 8 The MFP driver can not be correctly in stalled by Plug and Play (Windows 2000/XP /Vista) (USB only) In Windows 2000/XP/Vi sta, if the MFP driver cannot be correct.
78 MISFEED REMO V AL When a misfeed occurs, the error indicator blinks, " CLEAR PAPER JAM" appears in the display, and the machine stops opera ting. If a misfeed occurs when using the RSPF, "RETURN X ORIGINAL(S) START TO RESUME" will appear in the display.
TROUBLESHOO TING AND MAINTENANCE 79 8 A: Misfeed in t he paper feed area 1 Gently remove the mis fed paper from the pa per feed area as shown in the illus tration. If th e error indicat or blinks and the misfed paper is not visible in th e paper feed ar ea, pull out the paper tray and remove the misfed paper.
TROUBLESHOO TING AND MAINTENANCE 80 2 Gently remove the misfed paper from under the fusing unit as shown in the illustrat ion. If the pa per cannot be removed, proceed to "C: Mi sfeed in the tran sport area ".
TROUBLESHOO TING AND MAINTENANCE 81 8 4 Raise the fusin g unit release lever, close the front cover and then close the side cover by pr essing the round project ions near the side cover open button. The error indicator will go out and the ready indicator will light up.
82 TD (T ONER/DEVELOPER) CARTRIDGE REPLA CEMENT When toner is low, the error indicator will light up and "TD CARTRIDGE IS NEAR EMPTY." will appear in the display. Fo r information on purch asing a new TD (Toner/ Developer) cartridge, see "ABOUT SUPPLIES AND OPTI ONS" (p.
TROUBLESHOO TING AND MAINTENANCE 83 8 3 Gently pull the TD (Toner/Develope r) cartridge out while press ing the lock release button. 4 Remove the TD (Toner /Developer) cartr idge from the bag. Remove the protectiv e paper. Hold the cartridge on both sides and shake it horizonta lly four or five times.

The error indicator will go out and the ready indicator will light up. 7 DR UM CAR TRIDGE REPLA CEMENT The useful life of the drum cartridge is approximately 18,0 00 copies*.
TROUBLESHOO TING AND MAINTENANCE 85 8 2 Hold the drum cartridge ha ndle and gently pull the cartridge out. Dispose of the old drum car tridge in accordance wi th local regulations. 3 Remove the new drum cart ridge from the prote ctive bag and remove the protecti ve cover from the ca rtridge.
86 CHECKING THE T O T AL COUNT AND DRUM CAR TRIDGE LIFE You can check the total number of page s outp ut by the machine (all pages printe d by the copy function and printer function), a s well as the output counts of each functio n (number of copies, number of scanned pages, etc.
87 8 CLEANING THE MA CHINE Proper care is es sential in order to get cl ean, sharp copies. Be sure to take a few minutes to cl ean the m achine on a regular ba sis. Cabinet Wipe the cabinet with a soft, clean cloth. Document glass and the b ack side of the RSPF Stains on the glass, R SPF scanning win d ow, cover or RSPF roller will also be copied.
