BD/DVD/CD Playback This section explains playback of commercially available BD Video and DVD Video discs (like movies), CDs, and recor ded DVD-RW/R discs. Loading a Disc Press POWER to turn on the power . Press OPEN/CLOSE to open the disc tray . Load a disc on the disc tray .
BD/DVD Menus This section explains how to play back a BD/DVD video disc with a top menu, disc menu or pop-up menu. The titles listed in the top menu and a disc guide (for options like subtitles and audio languages) are given in the disc menu. NOTE “Finalise” refers to a recor der processing a recorded disc so that it will play in other DVD players/recorders as well as this player .
BD/DVD/CD Playback Playing back the title you stopped while being played. Press D (Blue) while the Title List scr een is displayed. From Beginning From Continued Playback Press c / d to select the type of Playback, then press ENTER . Playback of the title will begin.

Playback Functions Switching the Angle If multiple angles are r ecorded, you can switch between them. Press FUNCTION during playback. The Function Control screen is displayed on the TV . Press a / b to select the Angle Number column, then press ENTER .
JPEG File Playback CD-R JPEG CD-RW JPEG NOTE This Player can play still images (JPEG files) that have been recorded on CD-RW/R discs. For details on the still images that you can play using this player , refer to “About the JPEG file format” on page 7.
Settings During Playback Function Control This allows you to adjust various settings at once, like subtitles, angle settings and the title selection for Direct Playback. Y ou can adjust the video and audio to suit your prefer ences. The operations are the same for BD and DVD.
Settings During Playback Functions which can be set Shows the title number being played back (or track number when playing back an audio CD). Y ou can skip to the start of the title (or track). T o skip to the start of a selected title (or track), press the Number buttons to enter the title (or track) number when this option is highlighted.
SETTINGS Common operations The “Menu” enables various audio/visual settings and adjustments on the functions using the remote contr ol unit. Y ou need to call up the OSD to perform settings for this player . The following is the explanation for the basic operations of the “Menu”.
SETTINGS Audio Video Settings TV Aspect Ratio Y ou can set the screen aspect ratio of the connected TV , and adjust the video output. If you switch your TV (i.e. because you have bought a new one) and the screen aspect ratio of the connected TV changes, you will have to change the “TV Aspect Ratio” setting.
Audio Out Y ou can set the audio output when connecting to SURROUND equipment. This sets the audio output connected to SURROUND equipment. 1 HDMI Output: Select this when you connect using HDMI OUT terminal. Digital Output: Select this when you connect using DIGIT AL AUDIO OUT terminal (OPTICAL).
Angle Mark Display This lets you turn the Angle Mark Display on or off when BD/DVD video recor ded with multiple angles is played back. (The Angle Mark is displayed in the lower right screen.) Y es, No PIN Code Setting This sets the PIN code for setting or changing the Parental Contr ol Level.
SETTINGS Communication Setup This allows you to perform and/or change the communication setting. This setting is requir ed to use BD-LIVE functions that connect to the internet. NOTE Make sure that the LAN cable is connected to this Player . (See page 20.
Select “Next”, then press ENTER . For the advanced setting (the setting of the Ethernet connection speeds), press c / d to select “Y es” or “No”, then press ENTER . Normally select “No”, then press ENTER . The Ethernet connection speeds can be set when you select “Y es”, then press ENTER .

Glossary BDA V (page 6) BDA V (Blu-ray Disc Audio/V isual, BD-A V) refers to one of the application formats used for writable Blu-ray discs such as BD-R, BD-RE, etc. BDA V is a recording format equivalent to DVD-VR (VR mode) of the DVD specifications.
Interlace format Interlace format shows every other line of an image as a single “field” and is the standard method for displaying images on television. The even numbered field shows the even numbered lines of an image, and the odd numbered field shows the odd numbered lines of an image.
