Most accidents can be avoided by being aware of your equipment, your surroundings, and observing certain precautions.

Never mow in darkness or foggy conditions where you cannot clearly see at least 100 yards in front and to the sides of the tractor and mower.

Turn curves or go up hills only at a low speed and using a gradual steering angle. Rear mounted implements move the center of gravity to the rear and remove weight from the front wheels.

The operator should remain in his seat for 60 seconds after the brake has been set, the PTO disengaged, the tractor turned off, and all evidence of rotation has ceased.

A properly set mower will make a more uniform cut, distribute clippings more evenly , require minimal tractor work, and follow the contour of uneven terrain.

Position the mower (Lift and Semi-Mount T ype- raise and lower/Pull T ype-turn sharply) to the point with the shortest distance between the tractor PTO shaft and cutter gearbox.

OPERA TION OPERA TION Operation Section 4-17 © 2004 Alamo Group Inc. FM84A 09/03 ¾ Inspect the oil level in all gearboxes . A low oil level is a warning sign that the gearbox may be cracked or its seal is damaged and needs to be replaced. ¾ Ensure all gearbox vents are in place and free from clogs.

Make sure the mower is securely blocked up before crawling beneath. Replace damaged, worn and missing blades as complete sets to maintain rotary balance during operation.

FM84A 09/03 S tart off driving at a slow speed and gradually increase your speed while maint aining complete control of the tractor and mower . Moving slowly at first will also prevent the tractor from rearing up and loss of steering control.

OPERA TING THE TRACT OR AND MOWER Before starting any mowing operation, the operator must become familiar with the area to be mowed and any obstacles and hazards contained within to ensure safety to the operator , bystanders, and equipment.

Travel at a speed that allows the mower sufficient time to cut through the vegetation and maintain the PTO operating speed to prevent overloading the mower and tractor and to produce a clean cut.

FM84A 09/03 Before transporting the tractor on a public roadway or boarding a trailer for transport, the tractor brake pedals should be locked together . Locking the pedals ensures that both wheels brake simultaneously while stopping, especially when making an emergency stop.

Only a minimum of time and effort is required to regularly lubricate and maintain this machine to provide long life and trouble free operation.
