Getting Started 1-1 GETTING ST AR TED The Mon arch 7411 Print Server le ts you communicate with t he Monarch 9825 prin ter on a wi red Etherne t 802.3 net work, or on an 802.11b or 802.11g w ireless netw ork. 802.11b/g refers to 802 .11b and 802.
System Requirements To use the print server for print ing from a wireless netw ork, you need an 802.11b/ g wireless networ k. The wirele ss network consist s of either of the following: An 802.11b /g wireless e nabled PC pri nting straig ht to the p rinter (Ad -Hoc or Peer-t o-Peer Mode).
Checking the Print Server Hard ware The print se rver comes preinstalled an d tested in your printe r. Do not plug any cables into the parallel port when using th e print server. A printer wit h this prin t server cannot use the parallel port. Howeve r, the seria l port is st ill active.
Verifying Successf ul Installation When the pr int server is turned on , it goes through the fo llowing startup sequence: It runs thro ugh a set of power-u p diagnostics for a fe w seconds. The top orange l ight comes on when the unit is turned o n. The mid dle light comes on so lid yellow when an Ethernet lin k (wired 10baseT) is established .
Sample Test Page The test page is be st displayed using 4” wid e by 6” long labels. If the labe l is too s mall, so me information may print outside the label edg es. PAXAR --------- ---- MonarchNet Pr int Server St atus ------------- Monarc hNet Netw ork Adapt er-PLUS FW Ver.

2 CONFIGURING THE 802.1 1b/g AND IP SETTINGS Configuring the Print Server To config ure the print server for a 80 2.11b/g wirele ss network, you mu st set the wirele ss mode (Ad-Hoc or infrastructure), SSID, channel ( Ad-Hoc mode only), data rate and secur ity.
2-2 Ethernet Operating Instructions ♦ If you a re using T CP/IP, note your comp uter’s IP addre ss. The print server nee ds to be on the same IP segment as the ot her nodes on your network in orde r to communicate. ♦ You should have a good signal bet ween your co mputer and t he access point.
Note: If th e wireless s ignal is l ess than 50% on the Wireless Sta tus screen, print ing performance could b e affected. To improve th e signal st rength, tr y moving th e print se rver closer to t he computer o r access point an d away from other ra dio devices such as Bl uetooth® wireless d evices, microwave ovens, or 2.

5 TROUBLESHOOTING Verify that the printer is operating properly: 1. Is the printe r online and do es it have supplies? 2. If the printe r is working correctly, tes t the connection be tween the printer and the print server by pushing the test bu tton on the back of the pr inter for less than five seconds.
If the prin t server is operating properly, all three LE Ds blink momentaril y, then indicate the following acti vity: LED Indi cators Status solid printer is on blinking error Orange off printer is o.
5. On the test label, ver ify your IP and WiFi settings. If using an Ether net cable, th e “Wired/Wir eless:” value should be “WIRED”. If using RF, th e setti ng should be “WIRELESS ”. Check the “Actual SSI D” and the “WiFi Sig Qu al”.
If the c onnection succeeds, press Ctrl-E on your keyboard. T his sends an ENQ request. The printer respo nds with thre e characters. Depending up on the Telnet being use d, you may not see th e first characte r, as it i s a hex 05 value. The other two characters are ASCII characters .
Troubleshooting Wireless Configuration Problems 1. Your computer’s wireless ad apter and/ or access point s hould be configured to match your print server. 2. The print server shou ld be in range of the printe r (90 meters or 300 feet ) and your PC an d away from metal obj ects and other de vices with radio signals (Blue tooth®, 2.
Troubleshooting Netw ork Configuration ♦ ♦ If you are using T CP/IP, your comp uter and the print server should be on the same IP s egment or ca n reach eac h other with a PING command f rom the host. The I P address you assign to the print serve r must be on the same logica l network as your host computers .
6 TELNET CONSOLE COMMANDS Use this chapt er to configure the print server using Telnet . You must have a basic unde rstanding of Telnet commands. For initial setup, do not use Telne t. Use Auto-discover mo de. Once you have the IP address, you can u se Telnet o r a Web brows er.
5. To view the current wirel ess settings, type sh e n (show wirele ss settings) or sh nw (show network se ttings) and pres s Enter : WiFi Mode = INFR ASTRUCTURE WiFi S SID: AB C1234 Speed = 54 Internati onal Roaming: Flexibl e Dynamic F requency Selecti on: Unsupporte d Regula tory Doma in = USI WiFi FW Ver = 2.
