2 Display Panel This section describes configuration us ing the display panel when the printer function is selected. Initial Display Important ❒ The machine switch es to offline when yo u make settings when th e machine is online. After you complete the settin g, the machine switches to online au- tomatically.
3 5. [ Print Jobs ] Press to display print jobs sent from a computer. 6. [ Error Log ] Press to display the error logs of print jobs sent from a computer. 7. [ Spooling Job List ] Press to display spooled jobs. 8. Paper Tray Status indicators The paper tray settings appear.
4 Job List Jobs printed using Copy, Do cument Server or Printer mode are temporarily stored in the machine, and then executed in order. Using th e Job List function allows you to manage th ese jobs. For exam ple, you can cancel incorr ect job set- tings or print an urgent docum ent.
5 ❖ When [ Job Order ] is selected: The job list is displayed for all fu nctions in the order of print jobs. A Switches between job lists for each function. B Switches between [ Current / Waiting Job List ] and [ Job History ] . C Displays the Job List screen.
6 Changing the order of jobs You can change the order in which prin t jobs in the j ob list are served: A Press [ Job List ] . B Select the job whose order you want to change. C Press [ Change Order ] . D Change the order using [ Top ] , [ Previous ] , or [ Next ] .
7 Holding print jobs The machine holds a job currently prin ting or jobs in the print queue: A Press [ Job List ] . B Select the job(s) to hold. C Press [ Suspend Printing ] . Deleting jobs You can delete a job curr ently printing or jobs in the print queue.
8 Printer Features Menu The following explains settings and mean ings of functions on Printer Feature. Select [ Printer Feature ] after you press the { User Tools/Counter } key.
9 ❖ System Menu Description Print Error Report You can print an erro r report when a printer or memory error oc curs. Auto Continue You can select th is to en able Auto Continue. When it is On, printing continues after a sys- tem error occu rs. Memory Overflow Select this to have a mem ory overflow error report printed.
10 ❖ Host Interf ace ❖ PCL Menu Edge to Edge P rint Y ou can s elect whether or not to print on the entire sheet. Default Printer Language You can set the default printe r language if the machine cannot find the printer language automatically. Tray Switching You can set to switch the paper tray.
11 ❖ PS Menu (optional) ❖ PDF Menu (optional) Note ❒ Some options do not appear depending op tional units or se lected printer lan- guages. ❒ Some options cannot be set de pending on security settings. Reference For details, see “Pr inter Features” , General Sett ings Guide.
12 Setting Paper on the Bypass Tray This section g ives instruc tions fo r setting paper on the bypass tray. For details about paper size and paper type, see “Paper Size and Paper Type”, About This Machine.
13 C Set the paper size using the printe r driver or the control panel. The following procedures are not required i f you select [ Driver / Command ] from [ Bypass Tray Setting Priority ] in [ System ] of [ Printer Features ] . In that case, set the paper size using the printer driver.
14 E Select the paper size. F Press [ OK ] . G Press the { User Tools/Counter } key. The initia l screen appear s. Note ❒ When loading OHP transparencies or th ick paper, set paper size and paper type. ❒ [ Auto Detect ] is the default setting for [ Printer Bypass Paper Size ] .
15 F Press [ Vertical ] , enter the vertical size of the paper using the number keys, and then press the { q } key. G Press [ Horizontal ] , enter the horizontal size of the paper using the number keys, and then press the { q } key. H Press [ OK ] . The paper sizes entered are displayed.
16 F Press [ OHP (Transparency) ] on the [ Paper Type ] area when loading OHP trans- parencies. Press [ No Display ] on the [ Paper Type ] area, and then press [ Thick Pa- per 1 ] , [ Thick Paper 2 ] , or [ Thick Paper 3 ] on the [ Paper Thickness ] area when loading thick paper.
17 1. Preparing the Machine Confirming the Connection Method This machine suppo rts netw ork and local connection. Before ins talling the printer driv er, ch eck how the machine is connected. Follow the driver installation proc edure that is appropriate to the connection method.

Confirming the Connection Method 19 1 Using as a network printer This machine can be used as the Wind ows network pr inter, the NetWare print server, or the NetWare remote printer.

Installing the Printer Driver 21 1 Installing the Printer Driver This section e xplains how to install the printer driver. There are two ways to in- stall the printer driver: usin g Quick Install, which insta lls the settings at once, or installing the ap propriate driver according to the po rt you want to us e.

I Click [ Exit ] in the first dialog box of the installer, and then take out the CD- ROM. Note ❒ To stop installation of th e selected software, click [ Cancel ] before instal la- tion is complete.

Preparing the Machine 24 1 Windows XP, Window s Server 2003: A Open the [ Printers and Faxes ] window from the [ Start ] menu. The [ Printers and Faxes ] window appears. B Click the icon of the machine you want to use. On the [ File ] menu, click [ Properties ] .

H Select the machine model you want to use. The printer name can be chan ged in the [ Change settings for 'Printer Name' ] box.
Preparing the Machine 26 1 Reference A message appears if there is a newer version of the printer driver already installed. If there is, you cannot install the printer driver using Auto Run. If you still want to install the printer driver, use [ Add Printer ] .
Installing the Printer Driver 27 1 M Enter a name for identifying the printer in [ IPP Port Name ] . Use a name dif- ferent from the one of any existing port. If a name is not specified here, the address entered in the [ Printer URL ] box be- comes th e IPP port name.

Using as a NetWare Print Server / Remote Printer 35 1 H Double-click the printer name to display the printer settings. The details shown in [ Comment: ] , [ Dr iver: ] , and [ Port: ] vary depending on the operating system, printer model, and port. I Click [ Port: ] , and then click [ Add ] .
Preparing the Machine 36 1 Form Feed Do not use NetWare to configure form feed . Form feed is cont rolled by the print- er driver on Windows. If NetWare fo rm feed is configured, the prin ter may not print properly.

When USB is first used, Found New Hardware Wizard starts, and USB Printing Support is installed automatically.

If the printer driver has already been in stalled, plug and play is enabled, and the icon of the printer connected to the “USB001” port is added to the [ Printers ] window. Other Print Operations 78 3 Unauthorized Copy Control You can embed patterns and text under printed text to prevent unauthorized copying of the document. Un authorized Copy Control consists of two functions: [ Data security fo r copying ] and [ Mask type: ] .
Unauthorized Copy Control 79 3 ❖ Printing a document using [ Data security for copying ] 1. The pattern and text you have set is printed. 2. The document is copied or stored in copiers / multifunction machines which the optional Copy Data Secu- rity unit is installed.
Other Print Operations 80 3 Using [ Mask type: ] You can embed patterns and text in a document by setting in the printer driver to prevent unauthorized copying. ❖ Setting [ Mask type: ] in the printer driver • Select a pattern from [ Mask ty pe: ] , and then enter text in the [ Text: ] box.
Unauthorized Copy Control 81 3 Note ❒ Only the RPCS printer driver is supported. ❒ Printing at 200 × 200 dpi is not possible. ❒ You cannot partially embed patterns and text strings in a document.
Other Print Operations 82 3 Using the Print Job Function This describes how to print files stored in the machine. The following types of printing can be selected using t he printer driv er: Sample Print, Locked Print, Hold Print, and Stored Print. You can print or delete the print jobs saved in the machine which is sent from computers.

Other Print Operations 92 3 F Select the file you want to print, and then press [ Print ] . The password screen appears. G Enter the password using the number keys, and then press [ OK ] . The print confirmation screen appears. A confirmation screen will appear if the password is not entered correctly.

A list of Locked Print files stored appears. Depending on the security settings, ce rtain print jobs may not be displayed.

Printing from the Print Job Screen 95 3 C Start printing from the application’s [ Print ] dialog box. The Hold Print job is sent to the machine and stored. D On the machine’s control panel, press the { Printer } key to display the printer screen. E Press [ Print Jobs ] .
Other Print Operations 96 3 Note ❒ When printing is completed, the stored file is deleted. ❒ T o s t o p p r i n t i n g a f t e r p r inting has started, press [ Exit ] until th e Printer screen appears, and then press [ Job Reset ] . The file will be deleted.
Printing from the Print Job Screen 97 3 Stored Print Use this function to store a file in the machine, and then print it from the com- puter or the machine' s control panel later. Jobs are not delete d after they are printed, so the same jo b need not be re-se nt in order to print multiple copies.

You can select two methods o f Stored Print: • [ Stored Print ] Stores the file in the printer and pr int it later using the display panel . • [ Store and Normal Print ] Prints the file at once and also stores the file in the machine.
