23 English INST ALLING THE CARD Be sure to f ormat a newly purchased ca rd or one that was used in ano ther device bef ore using it in your camera (pa ge 154). If an unf ormatted card is used, the card itself ma y become unusab le. 1 Open the car d slot cover, and insert the card in the card slot.

27 English PREP ARING THE REMO TE CONTROL UNIT How to use the remote co ntrol unit The remote control unit can be used at an angle that is displaced 15 degrees horizontall y from the remote contr ol sensor on the fr ont of the camera, at a di stance of up to 7 meter s.
English 28 Changing the remote contr ol code The remote c ontrol unit will also work w ith other Sa ny o cameras t hat can be operated by infrared remote control. When more than one camera is present, it is recommended to chang e the remot e control code to ensure that only the intended camera operates when the remote control unit is used.

35 English TURNING THE CAMERA ON AN D OFF T urni ng on th e camera wh en the power save (sleep) mode is ac tive In order to preserve battery pac k power , the power save (sleep) function will automaticall y turn off the camera after 1 minute of no use during shooting, or 5 minutes of no use d uring playback (fact ory-preset setting).
English 36 HINT T o immediately act ivate the power save mode i Press the ON/OFF button briefly to activ e the power sav e function. About the standby mode i T o tur n off the camera onl y briefly , you can close the monitor unit to put the camera in the stan dby mode.
37 English OPERA TION BUTT ONS The procedures to change the ca mera settings , choose images , etc., are perf ormed by using the SET butto n to control the monitor displa y . This operation is used v ery frequently , so it is best to become f amiliar with it right away .

43 English BEFORE T AKING PICTURES Using the autof ocus The autofocus will w ork in almost all situat ions; however , there are certain conditions that may cause the autof ocus function to not work properl y . If the autofocus function is not working properly , set the focus range to capture images (page 86).
English 44 The fo llowing e xamples are some of the situations where the aut ofocus function ma y work, b ut not as desired. i When both near and far objects are present Use the focus-loc k function to lock the focus on an object at the sa me distance as the desired subject, then reposition the camera to compose the picture.

English 66 SHOO TING WITH THE FLASH The flash is used n ot only f or taking pi ctures where there is insuff icient light, but also when the subject is in shade or in backlight conditions. Y our camera’ s flash has f our modes of operation (au tom atic flash mode , for ced flash mode, flash off mode, and red-ey e reduction mode ).
