English 5 1 BEFORE USE Notes on handling internal hard disk drive components This unit has a built-in hard disk dri ve (HDD). Be sure to observe the following points carefully when operating, setting-up and servicing the unit. Do not subject the unit to sh ocks or vibration.

3 INSTALLATION AND CONNE CTIONS 10 English INTRODUCTION z Connect the cable of the wired remote control (VA- RMN01) (sold separately) to the remote control input terminals (among the control terminals). Cut the plug off the cord, and connect the red wire to “REMOTE” and the bare wire to “C”.
English 11 1 SCREEN DISPLAY AND POSITION At power ON, the operati on display area appea rs at the top left of the monitor screen.T he operation display area shows the date/time, image quality, remaining time , and other information nee ded for operations.
12 English OPERATION 2 SETTING THE LANGUAGE/CLOCK This section describes how to set the language disp layed on the monitor an d how to set the digita l video recorder’s internal clock. [Settings] ( indicates initial setting.) 1 Press the [MENU] button.

14 English OPERATION 3 NORMAL RECORDING/TIMER RECORDING Follow the steps below to record the monitored image. 1 Set the TV SYSTEM selector switch on the rear panel to PAL. Switch TV SYSTEM based on the camera and monitor to be connected. 2 Press the [REC/STOP] button.
English 15 4 ALARM RECORDING Use the following procedure to have alarm video reco rded when an alarm signal is received during recordin g or recording stop. z Check that the device required for alarm recording is connected to the ALARM terminal. ( J P.

18 English OPERATION 6 SEARCHING FOR RECORDED IMAGES Recorded images can be searched. There are two search methods availab le. Image to search Search in <SEARCH> screen z You can use the button operations to freeze, fast- forward or perform other operations on retrieved images being played back.

English 21 7 COPYING TO CF CARDS OR CD -R/RW DISCS AND FORMATTING Use the following procedure to copy image recordings to a CompactFlash card, a CD-R/RW. Comp actFlash cards and CD-RWs can also be formatted as described belo w. z Do not turn off the power while image is being copied.

English 23 8 PREVENTING ACCIDENTAL OPER ATION (KEY LOCK FUNCTION) Use the following procedure to set the key lock function so that operation as a result of accidental pressing of buttons can be prevented. 1 Press the [ ] button for about 3 seconds while the digital video recorder is recording or stopped.
24 English SETTINGS MENU CONFIGURATION AND OPERATIONS This section describes the me nu config uration, and which menu item to select for each operation. 1 Press the [MENU] button. The <MAIN MENU> screen appears. 2 Press the [ ] or [ ] button to select the desired menu.

26 English SETTINGS 1 LANGUAGE/CLOCK SET You can perform the foll owing functions: Change the l anguage used to display on-screen informat ion.* Set the date and time.* Set the clock to adjust auto matically for summer time. Set all the devices to the same time automatically when multiple devices ar e connected.

English 31 3 TIMER REC SET You can set recording start/ stop ti mes using the “TIMER REC SET”. You can set times at which to start and stop cursor on each specified day of the week. (1) WEEK Used to select the days of the week for timer recording.
3 TIMER REC SET 32 English SETTINGS 5 Press the [ ] button to move the cursor to the next item. Each time you press the [ ] button, the cursor moves to the following ite ms: “WEEK” J “START” (hours, minutes) J “STOP” (hours, minutes) J “SET”.
3 TIMER REC SET English 33 3 Press the [ ] or [ ] button to change the “STOP” time from “--:--” to “**:**”, then press the [ ] button. The “DLY” item on the 8th line automa tically changes to “TUE” (the day after the day set on the 7th line), and flashes.
34 English SETTINGS 4 DISPLAY/BUZZER SET You can set the display item on the operation displ ay area. This sub-menu also lets you set a warnin g buzzer to sound for alarms or when the hard disk space reaches zero. You can set items as needed. [Settings] ( indicates initial setti ng.

The <DISPLAY/BUZZER SET> screen appears. 3 Press the [ ] and [ ] buttons to select the desired item, then press the [ ] button.
36 English SETTINGS 5 SECURITY LOCK SET You can set passwords that restrict the users. When the security lock is set, a buzzer sounds when a user presses any of the digital video recorder’s operation buttons. Be sure to make a note of the set passwords.

English 39 6 RS-485/NETWORK SET This section describes how to make the RS-485 termi nal connections/settings needed to connect to an external device, and how to make the network connection s needed to connect to a PC. You can make d igital video record er menu settings and monitor images from a PC via a network.
6 RS-485/NETWORK SET 40 English SETTINGS 3 Press the [ ] and [ ] buttons to select “ADVANCED SETTING” and press the [ ] button. The <NETWORK SET-ADVANCED> screen appears. The cursor moves to “ADDRESS SET”. “DVR NAME” displays the name set for the digital video recorder when using remote control software.

English 43 8 MENU UPLOAD/DOWNLOAD You can save menu settings onto a CompactFlash card. This sub-menu also lets you read menu settings saved on CompactFlash cards. This function proves useful when ide ntical settings are to be used on a number of different digital video recorders.
