4 Section 1: Getti ng Star ted Understanding this User Manual The sections of this manual are laid out t o assist you with your setup and follow the UI f eatures of your Galaxy Gear™. Getting Started 5 Special T ext Throughout this manual, you’ll find text that is set apart from the rest. These are intended to point out important information, share quick method s for activating features, to define terms, and more.
6 Setting Up Y our Device These steps take you through an out-of- the-box setup process. These procedures ar e in tended to help you get your device setup, activated, and assis t you with your initial connection. Charging the Batter y Y our device is po wered by an internal rechargeable Li-ion battery.

Insert the power plug into a compa tible electrical outlet. 6. Insert the USB connec tor into the Charging crad le’ s charger jack.
8 Caution! Connecting the charger improperly may cause serious damage to the device. Any damage caused by misuse is not covered by the warranty . 7. Plug the charging head into a standard AC power outlet. The device turns on and indica tes its charge state.

10 Once paired, its the Gear Manager application that provides a direct connection and access to setup/configuration menus for the Galaxy Gear . Installing Gear Manager 1. Remove the Charging cradle from the packa ging. 2. T urn on your smartphone and enable NFC communication.
Getting Started 11 Launching Gear Manager The appearance of on-screen i tems within Galaxy Gear are controlled via the Gear Mana ger application. From within your smart phone ’ s Applications page, tap ( Gear Manager ). Pairing the Devices A utomatically The Galaxy Gear and smartphone are paired using Bluetoot h ® technology .

14 W earing the Device 1. Thread the wristband through the F rame (1). 2. Slide your hand through the strap opening. Caution! Humidity and liqu ids may damage your dev ice. Keep your de vice dry . 3. Place the Metal Pin into the desired hole on the wristband (2).
Getting Started 15 Remo ving the Device 1. Firmly grasp both sides of the buckle. 2. Carefully pull the Buckle upwards and a way from the wristband. This causes the metal joint to move upwards (away from the back of the Galaxy Gear). 3. Slide the wristband out from the Frame.

26 R enaming the Connected Gear It is important to rename a currently connected Galaxy Gear so that the identity of the de vice can not be determined and its not left with its default name . It is also useful to identify individual Galaxy G ear devices if you have multiple units connecte d/paired to the same smartphone.

Making a Call 1. From the Home (Clock) screen on your Galaxy Gear , scroll to and then ta p ( Apps ) ➔ Dialer .
Calling Features 35 Making a Call Using Logs 1. From the Home (Clock) screen, scroll to and then tap ( Apps ) ➔ Logs . 2. T a p an entry and select ( Call ). – or – Swipe a call log entr y to the right to call. Note: Swiping a call log entry to the left initiates a new outgoing message.

Calling Features 37 Logs T a b The Logs tab is a list of the phone numbers (or Contacts entries) for calls you placed, accepte d, or missed. The Logs tab makes redialing a number fast and ea sy .

40 Camera/Camcorder Settings T o configure settings for Camera: 1. Verify the camera mode is active (indicated by ). 2. Ta p ( Menu ) to configure settings for the Camera. •F o c u s m o d e : Select a focus mode. Auto focus is camera-controlled. M acro is for very close objects.
Applications 41 Dialer This application a llows you to make new outgoing calls 1. From the Home (Clock) screen, scroll to and then tap ( Apps ) ➔ Dialer . 2. Enter the phone number and then tap . For mor e information, refer to “Calling F eatures” on page 34.
42 Media Controller This application lever ages the me dia playback capabiliti es of your smartphones Music player application. The Galaxy Gear can only be used to control the playback of the smartphone’s application. Note: Some file formats are not supported dep ending on the device’ s software version.

44 T o configure the Pedometer applica tion: 1. From the Step count screen, tap ( Menu ) to configure the application. 2. Ta p t h e Goal field to assign a step count , tap or to adjust the value. T ap OK to save the n ew setting. 3. Ta p Reset steps to reset your current step count.

48 Section 6: Settings This section explains the settings for your device. It inc ludes such settings as: clock, sound, volume, display , and any extra settings associate d with your device. T ur ning on Outdoor Mode This mode brightens the conten t on th e display scr een for better viewing in outdoor conditions.
Settings 49 – Set time : allows you to adjust the time values as needed. Use the on-screen dial to adjust eac h value. T ap Set to assign the value. •H o u r l y a l e r t : either activates/deactivates the h ourly alert func tion. Sound Settings From this menu you can con trol the sounds on the device as well as configure t he settings.

52 Activating Visibility 1. From the Home (Clock) screen, scroll to and then tap ( Apps ) ➔ Settings ➔ Bluetoot h . 2. Verify your Bluetooth is active. 3. From the Bluetooth settings page, ta p the Visibi lity field to turn it on. Acti vating this featur e makes your device visible and allow s other devices to pair and communicate.
