When open, smoke goes directly up the flue, creating more draft. When closed, the smoke goes through the combustor, utilizing the secondary combustion system and making the heater more efficient.

Some use the boy-scout "tee-pee", some prefer the "tic-tac-toe" stack. Either way, review the hints and warnings below to ensure proper fire starting.
