Getting Started 6 T ext Con v entions This manual provides condensed informat ion about how to use your device. T o make this possible, the follo wing text conventions are used to represent often-used s teps: Batt er y Y our device is powered by a rechargeable, standard Li-Ion batter y .
7 1. Insert the USB cable in to the Charging Head. 2. Insert the USB cable into t he device’ s C harger/ Accessory Port. War n i n g! While the device is charging, if the touch scr een does not function due to an unstab le power supply , unplug the USB power adapter fr om the power outlet or unplug the USB cable from the device.

9 Wi-Fi Make sure the Wi-Fi OFF / ON icon is set to ON and choose one of the following options: To u c h Add Wi-Fi network to enter a Network SSID tha t is not listed. To u c h Scan to make sure you have an accurat e list of Wi-Fi networks. T ouch one of the Wi-Fi networ ks in the list, enter the password, and touch Connect .
Getting Started 10 Got Google? Y our new device uses your G oogle account to fully use its Android features, incl uding Gmail, Maps, Navigation, Google T alk, and Google Play . The Got Google? screen allows you to si gn in, if you alread y have a Google account.

Understanding Y our Device 29 Status Bar The Status Bar is part of the System Bar and displa ys icons to show network sta tus, batter y power , and other details. Battery L evel : Shown fully ch arged. Charging Indicator : Battery is cha rging. Device P ower Critica l : Batter y has only three percent power remaining.
30 Primar y Shor tcuts Primary Sho rtcuts display at the bottom of the Hom e screens. Tip : The main Home screen is usually the center Home screen. The default Primar y Shortcuts are: Contacts, Email, S Planner , Internet, and Apps.
Understanding Y our Device 31 R emo ving Wi dgets T ouch and hold the Widget until the Remove icon displays, then drag the widget to the Remove icon. Note: This action does not actually delete the Widget, it just removes it from the current Home screen.
32 Fo l d e r s Place Folders on a Home screen to organize items togethe r . Adding Folders T o create a fol der on a Home page: 1. Navigate to the desir ed Home screen. 2. T ouch and hold on the screen until the Home screen pop-up displays and then touch Folder .

36 K eyboard Types In addition to the default QW ERTY keyboard, there is al so a Floating keyboard. T o change the keyboard type: 1. Access the QWERTY keyboard. 2. T ouch and hold on the key board and then select from the pop-up m enu . 3. T ouch the tab at the top of the Floa ting keyboard to move it.
Understanding Y our Device 37 Using Predictiv e T ext By using Predictive text, you ca n have next-letter prediction and regional err or correction, which compensates for touching the wrong keys on the QWERTY keyboard. Note: Enable Predictive text in Samsung keyboard settings.
38 Editing Existing T ext T o edit text that you have entered: 1. T ouch the text at t he point you want to edit. The Cursor displays at the point you touched. 2. T ouch and drag the Cursor to a better position, if necessary . 3. Enter additional text or delete text by repeated ly touching the Delete key .

58 Inter net Quic k Controls Use Quick Contro ls to maximize your viewing area while browsing the internet. 1. T ouch Internet . 2. While viewing a webpage, touch Menu ➔ Settings ➔ Labs , and then touch Quick controls to enable the function. The Application and URL bars are hidden.

60 Navig ation Use Google Navigation to find a destination and to get walking or driving direc tions. Navigation works best when Wi-Fi is enabled. For more informatio n, refer to “T urning Wi-Fi On or Off ” on page 85. Note: Y ou must enable location services to use N avigation.
Internet and Social Networking 61 Play Ma gazine s Google Play Magazines helps yo u subscribe to your favorite magazines so you can have them available to read on your tablet at your leisure. Play Magazines requires that you log on to your Google account.
62 Section 6: Music This section explains how to us e the music features of your device including th e Music app, the Music Player , and the Music Hub. Listening to Music Y ou can listen to music by using your devic e’ s built-in speakers, through a wired head set, or through a wireless Bluetooth stereo headset.

Connections 87 W i-Fi Direct Wi-Fi Direct allows device-to- device connections so you can transfer large amounts of da ta over a Wi-Fi connection. 1. From a Home scre en, touch Apps ➔ Settings ➔ Wi-Fi . 2. T ouch the OFF / ON icon to turn Wi -F i on.
88 Sharing Infor mation with Connected De vice T o share videos, photos, or other information with the connected device, follow these steps: 1. View the informa tion tha t you want to sha re. For example, if you want to share a photo, find the photo in your camera viewer or My Files folder , then touc h the Share, Share via, or Send via option.
Connections 89 Pairing with a Bluetooth Device Search for a Bluetooth device and pair with it, to exchange information between your device and the target device. Tip : After pairing, your device an d the target device recognize each other and exchange in formation without h aving to enter a p asscode or PIN.

92 Kies Via W i-Fi Samsung Kies is a software that enables you to update your device firmware, synchronize files, and transfer da ta to and from your devic e directly by co nnecting to th e PC. Note: Some features will be supported through th e System Updates feature in the f utu re.

94 Synchronizing with Windows Media Player Ensure that Windo ws Media Player is installed on your PC. 1. Attac h your de vice to t he com puter wi th the U SB cab le. Y our computer recognizes t he connection and displays the AutoPlay screen. 2. Click the option to Sync digital media files to this device to synchronize music files.
