5 .4 < Loading pri nt media> T ransparencies • T o avoid damaging the printer , use only transparencies designed for use in laser printers. • T ransparencies used in the printer must be able to withstand 195° C (383° F), the printer ’s fusing temperature.

The standard tray can hold a maximum of 500 sheets of 75 g/m 2 (20 lb) paper . T o load paper , pull open the tray an d load paper with the side to be printed on face down.
5 .6 < Loading pri nt media> Using the multi-purpose tray The multi-purpose tray can hold specia l sizes a nd types of print media, such as transparencies, postcards, note cards, and enve lopes. It is useful for single page printing on letterhead or colored paper .
5 .7 < Loading pri nt media> 4 Squeeze the multi-purpose tray paper width guides and adjust them to the width of the paper . Do not force too much, or the pa p er will be bent, which will result in a paper jam or skew . 5 When you print a document, set the paper sou rce and type i n the software application.
5 .8 < Loading pri nt media> Selecting an output location The printer has two output locations; the rear cover (face up) and the output tray (face down). The printe r sends output to the outpu t tray by de fault. T o use the output tray , make sure that the rear cover is closed.

8 .3 < Maintenanc e> Printing a cleaning sheet If you are experiencing blurre d, fade d, or smeared printouts, you can clear the problem by printing a cleani ng sheet, provided by your pri nter . Y ou can print: • OPC cleaning sheet: cleans the OPC drum of the toner cartridge.
8 .4 < Maintenanc e> Redistributing toner cartridge When the toner cartridge is near the end of its life: • White streaks and light printing occur .

9 .11 < Troubleshooti ng> Solving print quality problems Dirt inside of the printer or improper paper loading may reduce print quality . See the table below to troubleshoot problems. PDF file does not print correctly- some part s are missing in the graphics, text or illustrations.
9 .12 < Troubleshooti ng> Ve r t i c a l repetitive defects If marks repeatedly appear on the prin ted side of the page at even intervals: • The toner cartridge may be damaged. If a repetitive mark occurs on the page, print a cleaning sheet several times to clean the cartridge; see page 8.
9 .13 < Troubleshooti ng> Common Windows problems Charac ter V oids Character voids are white area s within characters that should be so lid black: • If you are using transparencies, try another type of tr ansparency . Because of th e composition of the transparency , some character voids may be normal.
9 .14 < Troubleshooti ng> Common Linux problems A PostScript error page prints. Print job may not be PostScript. Make sure that the print job is a PostScript jo b. Check to see whether the software application expected a setup or PostScript header file to be sent to the printer .
10 .1 < Installing accessories> 10 Installing accessories Y our printe r is a full-featured laser printer th at has been opti mized to meet the majority of your printing needs. Recognizing th at each user may have different requirements, however , Samsung makes several accessories available to enhance th e printer ’s capabilities.
10 .2 < Installing accessories> 3 Grasp the control board cove r and remove it. 4 Completely open the latches on ea ch side of the DIMM slot. 5 Remove the memory DIMM from its antist ati c package. Locate the alignmen t notches on the bottom edge of the DIMM .
10 .3 < Installing accessories> Removing a DIMM T o expand the printer memory to 512 MB, you need to re move the preinstalled 64 MB DIMM and install two 256 MB DIMMs into the DIMM slots. Push the latches at both ends of the DIMM slot away to remove the DIMM and pull out the DIMM.
10 .4 < Installing accessories> 5 Close the control board cover by al igning the groo ve on it with the notch on the p rinter and sliding it. 6 Reinstall the duplex-slot cover or the duplex unit. 7 Reconnect the power cord and pr inter cable (if necessary), and turn the printer on.
10 .5 < Installing accessories> Setting Encryption If your network uses WEP encryptio n keys, you can must select the appropriate encryptio n type and configure encryption keys.
