8 9 FEA TURES KNOW YOUR HAND PLANER See Figure 1. Before attempting to use this product, familiarize yourself with all operating features and safety rules. SWITCH TRIGGER Y our hand planer has a conveniently located switch trigger on the underside of the rear handle.
10 11 UNP ACKING This product has been shipped completely assembled. n Carefully remove the tool and any accessories from the box. n Make sure that all items listed in the packing list are included. n Inspect the tool carefully to make sure no breakage or damage occurred during shipping.

12 13 OPERA TION TO INST ALL BA TTER Y P ACK See Figure 6. n Lock the switch. n Place the battery pack in the tool. Align raised rib on battery pack with the groove inside the tool. n Make sure the latches on each side of the battery pack snap in place and battery pack is secured in the tool before beginning operation.
14 15 OPERA TION WARNING: Battery tools are always in operating condition. Therefor e, switch should always be locked when not in use or carrying at your side. ST ARTING/STOPPING THE PLANER See Figure 8. n To start the planer: Push the lock-off button from either side, and then depress the switch trigger.

16 17 OPERA TION CHAMFERING See Figure 12. The planer is designed with a chamfering gr oove in the fr ont shoe to chamfer edges of boards as shown. Befor e making a cut on good lumber , practice cutting on scrap lumber to determine the amount to be removed.

18 19 REPLACING BLADES See Figures 17 - 18. Always replace blades in pairs. Do not attempt to sharpen blades. If the blades become dull, replace them. When repl acing the blades, use rec ommended rep lacement blade only , RIDGID part number 671480001.
20 21 MAINTENANCE REPLACING THE BEL T See Figures 19 - 20. When re placi ng the belt , use the recom mend ed r epla cemen t belt only , RIDGID part number 570279001. n Lock the switch by placing the lock-off button in the center position. n Remove belt cover screws.
