In turn, these pages can be split into 2 side-by- side windows .T he settings you choose are saved so that each time you o pen an application it is prese nted in the same way .

T he fishfinder applicatio n gi ves you a detailed v iew of what is below your vessel. T his includes the seabed an d its texture , fish, and other und erwater objects .

When you first po wer on your display the default v alues are use d. T he tab les in following sections show the sub-menus, default settings and options available.

32 A65 GPS Chartplotter 2.7 Fishfinder Setup T hese setup items are for an optional a DSM25 Digital Sounder Module . The F ishfinder Setup menu is d escribed in the DSM25 Handbo ok. 2.8 System Setup T hese settings define parameters that are used by the A65 in all applications.

34 A65 GPS Chartplotter Units... Set the units for speed, depth, and temperature that is used to display all d ata, including informati on received from other instrument s on the system. Note: The A65 sets its internal clock from the GPS. Therefore, time of day is not available until a GPS fix is acquired.

If an al arm is genera ted, it sounds an audib le war ning and di splays a message box on screen that explains the cause of the al arm.

Chapter 2: General Operatio n and System Setup 37 T he sky view graphic shows th e position of th ese satellit e s . P ositional accuracy is dependent upon th ese parameters. In particular , the azimuth an d elevation angles are used i n a triangula tion process to cal culate your position.

45 Chapter 3: W orking with W aypoints 3.1 Intr oduction W aypoints are a core fea ture of the A65 di sp lay . T h ey can be created in the Chart or F ishfinder application and used by each application. Waypoints can be stored in the system, archived to a CompactFlash ca rd or sent to or received fr om another NMEA compatible instr ument.

Chapter 3: Working with W aypoints 47 3.2 Placing a W aypoint A waypoint can be placed at the cursor position, the boat’s position or at a position of you choosing (using l at/long coord inates). All w aypoints can a lso be used in the creation of routes .

56 A65 GPS Chartplotter Changing the W aypoint Details When a w a ypoint is creat ed it is assigned a defaul t name. Y ou can change thi s detail and the la t/long or comment fields to suit your needs . Th is is particularly useful when you are managing large numbers of w aypoints .

58 A65 GPS Chartplotter Moving a W aypoint Y ou can move any waypoi nt to a new position. If , however , you are navigating to a wa ypoint and you wish it to be moved, you wi ll need to stop navig ation (press ST O P GOGT O or ST OP F OLLOW). T here ar e two methods of moving a waypoint: .
Chapter 3: Working with W aypoint s 59 Erasing a W aypoint Y ou can erase any waypoint on the syst em using the curs or or the waypoint list except for the waypoint that y ou are curren tly navigating to (see “Navigating to a Specific P oin t“ on page 68).
60 A65 GPS Chartplotter CAUTION: Er asing a Waypoint used in a Route It is possible to erase waypoints that ar e used in routes. In such instances, the stor ed route will join the two waypoints on either side of the waypoint just erased. Ensure that this alter ed route does not present a navigatio n hazard.
61 Chapter 4: Using the Chartplotter 4.1 Intr oduction T his chap ter describes how to use the Chartplotter applicatio n of the A65 display . T o access full functional ity your chartplo tter requires position data from your RS12 GPS Sensor .
62 A65 GPS Chartplotter CAUTION: Navigation Aid The equipment should not be used as a substitute for good navigational practice nor for official government paper charts. Do not use the chartplotter before you have r ead the Important Information section at the beginning of this handbook.
Chapter 4: Using the Chartpl otter 63 4.3 What is Displayed T he chartp lotter has a built in world map. Most areas are displa yed at a scale of 72 nm from the top to the bottom of the screen and can be overzoomed as desi red.
64 A65 GPS Chartplotter 4.4 The Chartplotter Display T he chartplotter includes fe atures that enable you to interpret your surr oundings and mak e informed decisions based on your location.
Chapter 4: Using the Chartpl otter 65 Find Ship Y our boat is represented on screen by a ship symbol. If you cannot see your boat (it has travelled off-screen), press FIND S H IP . T he chart is redrawn with your boat and the cursor in the center of the screen.
