Chapter 1: Overv iew 1-1 Chapter 1: Overview 1.1 In troduct ion This handbook describes the Raychart 320 Chartplotter. Not e: Many illustrati ons in this ha ndbook show example screens . The screen you see on your display depends on your syst em configuration and set up o ptions , so it ma y differ f rom the ill ustra tion.
1-2 Raychart 320 Char tplotter 1.2 Featur es General The Raychart 320 Chartplotter has a built-in GPS th at provides the following navi gational signals : • Satellite D ifferential GPS (eg, W AAS). • Ground b ased Diff erential GPS, w hen used wi th an additional R TCM beacon receiver .

Chapter 1: Overv iew 1-5 1.4 Ope ra ting Contr ols Operation utilizes a number of buttons and on-screen controls. These include: • A trackpad providing up, down, left, right and di agonal control of an on-screen cursor . • Eight dedicated (labelled) cont rol keys.
1-6 Raychart 320 Char tplotter The cursor is used to: • Select a position on the screen. • Select and, if valid, move an item, e.g. a waypoint, on the c hart .
Chapter 1: Overv iew 1-7 Dedicated Keys The dedicated keys: DISPLA Y , MARK, RANGE, AL ARMS, E NTER, CLEAR, M ENU and POWER have fixed functions. Some keys can be used in two w ays: • Pr ess: P ress the key momentarily and then release it . This method is used for most key operations.
1-8 Raychart 320 Char tplotter Pop-Up Menus Pop-up menus u sually provide set up o ptions. When a pop-up menu is on-screen, a set of associated soft keys is als o displayed as shown in Figur e 1-3 . Chapter 2: Getti ng Started 2-7 ➤ T o release the cursor from homed mode, use the trackpad t o move the cursor away from the vessel ’ s current position. The status bar s hows the current cursor posit ion, bearing and range. The cursor no long er moves with the vessel and no redraw occurs if th e vessel moves off screen.
2-8 Raychart 320 Char tplotter Each time you press the RANGE key , the display scale changes to the next available setti ng. The status bar , shown in Figur e 2-7 , indicates the dist anc e fr om to p to bot tom of t he scr ee n, i n nau tic al mi les .
Chapter 2: Getti ng Started 2-9 • If Plotter Mode is On, the scale i s decreased and the message NO CHAR T D A T A is displayed. The vessel, waypoint s, routes and tracks are displayed without cartography . The chart information is restored when you return to a chart scale for which the information is available.

3-2 Raychart 320 Char tplotter CAUTION: The equipm ent should not be u sed as a substitu te for good navigational practice nor for official governme nt paper charts. 3.2 Using Chart Cards The chartplotter has a built-in world map; most areas are covered on a scale of 6nm on the screen.
Chapter 3: Operati on 3-3 F igure 3-1: Chart Card Insertion/Removal Removing a Chart Card ➤ Refer to Figur e 3-1 : 1. Open the card cover at the left of the display front panel. 2. On the card you wish to remove, press down and move the top of the card to the left to clear the retai ning pegs.
3-4 Raychart 320 Char tplotter ➤ To z o o m i n : 1. Use the trac kpad to move the cursor inside one of t he chart boxes, and press the lower part of the RANGE key . That area is expanded, with the cursor at the centre, so that you can see more detail.

An object information pop-up is displayed, providing source information for the selected land or depth area. Po rt Ar ea At detailed chart scales, port area infor mation is indicated by the symbol .
3-6 Raychart 320 Char tplotter Tide Da ta The symbol indicates that Tide he ight data is ava ilable for that position on t he chart. When you select the T ide hei ght option, a graph of predictions fo r maximum and minimum tide hei ghts is displ ayed.
Chapter 3: Operati on 3-7 Near est ➤ T o obta in the inf ormation for the near est port f acility: 1. Move the cursor t o the required po sition - this can be anywhere on the chart and may be over an object. 2. Press ENTER to display the object informatio n pop-up.

Chapter 3: Operati on 3-15 CDI/BDI Data The Course Deviation Indicator ( CDI) / Bearing Deviation Indicator (BDI) display comprises two data pages, selected al ternately by the CDI and BDI soft keys.

Chapter 3: Operati on 3-17 Data Log The Chartplotter can be set to log passage data every 30 minutes. Up to 48 log entries are held. When 48 ent ries have been saved, the first entri es sta rt bein g ov erw ri tte n. If the number of log entries exceeds the table size, use the trackpad up/down to scroll the list and view further log entries.
3-18 Raychart 320 Char tplotter 3.4 W orkin g with W aypoints Introduction Y ou can place up to 998 waypoints on the Chartplotter. A waypoint is a position entered on the chart as a reference or destination point.

The new waypoint is listed at th e vessel ’ s current position or , if not available, the cursor ’ s current position; The waypo int is named with the next available number . If required, edit the waypoint u sing the LA T/LONG , SYMBOL and NAME soft keys.
Chapter 3: Operati on 3-21 Not e: You can enter Waypo ints as Loran TDs which are convert ed to Lat/Long coord inates. You can subsequentl y only edit their positions as Lat/Long coord inates.
3-22 Raychart 320 Char tplotter Selecting a W aypoint Selecting a waypoint fr om the W aypoint List allows you to GO T O and EDIT ( symbol, name, position, erase) the waypoint . The W aypoint List also provides op tions to make a ne w waypoint and transfer waypo ints.

Move the cursor over the waypoi nt. • The W aypoint Data Box is di splayed which i ndicates waypoi nt number/nam e, bea ring and ran ge (or lat/ lon if se lected in the sys - tem set up menu, see System Set Up Para meters on page 4-2 ).
3-24 Raychart 320 Char tplotter 5. Use the trackpad t o enter or edit the name: • Use the trackpad left/right to move the cursor to the charact er to be changed.
Chapter 3: Operati on 3-25 ➤ T o delete a waypoint using the cursor: 1. Move the cursor over the waypoint until the letters WPT are displayed. The waypoint s oft keys are displayed. 2. Press the ERASE WA YPOINT s oft key . The waypoint is removed from the screen and the W aypoint List is updated.
3-26 Raychart 320 Char tplotter 3.5 W ork ing with Routes A route is made up of a series of waypoints (max imum 50). T o make a route you place a series of w aypoints and/or use existing o nes. When a route is created, it becomes t he current route and is displayed on screen.
Chapter 3: Operati on 3-27 Creating a New Route Not e: If there is a current route, it is cleared when MAKE ROUTE is select- ed . If following the curr ent route you are prompted t o ST OP FOLLOW . Press the YES soft key to continue, or NO to abandon route creatio n.
3-28 Raychart 320 Char tplotter The Route Building T able shows available W aypoints in the left hand column (in alphanumeric order). The right hand column contains the waypoints in t he New Route. The number to t he left of the waypoint name in the N ew Rou te column ind icates its order in th e route.

3-30 Raychart 320 Char tplotter Saving the Current Route Y ou can save up to 20 named routes in the Route Database List . These routes can then be re-displayed and fol lowed at a later date. When you save the route, all new waypoints are saved in the W aypoint List.

While Track is on, it is recorded in memory as the Current T rack and is retain ed follow ing a POWER OFF/ON .
3-48 Raychart 320 Char tplotter • Manage tracks using the T rack List , including Savi ng, Naming, Eras- ing and Showing a t rack. • Convert the current track to a route. Setting Up a T rack The track soft keys are used to switch the T rack on and to specify the interval at whi ch track points are placed.
Chapter 3: Operati on 3-49 Not e: Track points ar e not ‘ was ted ’ when the vessel is stationary as there is a minimum dist ance separation, even when us ing a time interv al set- ting. ➤ T o set up a track: 1. From the chartplotter display , press the ME NU key to display the set up soft keys as shown in Figure 3-53 .

3-52 Raychart 320 Char tplotter 3.10 Man Overbo ard (MOB) If a person or obj ect is lost overboard, us e the Man Overboard (MOB) function to return to the locat ion immed iately . Note: To obtain an MO B position, you need either of the following: • Positio n data from the GPS ante nna.
Chapter 3: Operati on 3-53 • Replaces all current waypoint data with MOB data. ➤ T o cancel the M OB, press and hold the MARK key for 2 seconds. The chart is re-drawn at i ts previous scale, and the MOB symbol and data box are removed.

4-4 Raychart 320 Char tplotter Bearing Mode This is the mode (magnetic or true) of all the bearing and heading data displayed as i ndicated in the status bar .
Chapter 4: Setti ng Up the Chartpl otter 4-5 Help When Hel p is set t o ON , a prompt appears i n place of the status bar when selectin g a soft k ey or menu cho ice and whe n using the co ntext-sen sitive cursor . The help mes sage is cleared when an action is selected.
4-6 Raychart 320 Char tplotter Auto Mode If Auto mo de is se lected, the v alue of va riation is obtained a utoma tically , normally from received data. The variation value that is used depends on the data a vailable, an d is selec ted in the foll owing ord er of prio rity: 1.
Chapter 4: Setti ng Up the Chartpl otter 4-7 Press the CURSOR ECHO soft key to display the cursor t ransfer soft keys. The following options can be toggled ON or OF F : • Radar Cur sor In: di splays the cursor from another radar on the chart display or chart windo w (default - OFF ).
4-8 Raychart 320 Char tplotter NMEA Input Select the NME A input setting as appropri ate. This can be set to either NMEA or RT C M . R TCM input is 4800 baud only .
Chapter 4: Setti ng Up the Chartpl otter 4-9 Customize Chart This provides a list of chart options, enabling yo u to specify how the chart features are displayed. Most options can be togg led between on, of f and custom. Custom pass es on/of f control to th e SCREEN soft keys (s ee Customizing t he Screen Presentation Opt ions in Chapter 2 ).
