4 Preparation Preparation UNDERSTANDING THE SYSTEM Your installed alarm syst em is design ed to: • discourage potent ial intruders • scare intruders away befor e they take your propert y or harm you or othe rs • alert you or othe rs if some one breaks into your home The alarm center is the main control panel for the alarm sys- tem.
5 Preparation 2. After you comple te the basic floor plan, make three cop- ies of it. Label e ach copy as being the pla n for one of th e three zone types (insta nt, delayed , and panic /tamper). 3. Decide what sensors and other par ts you want to install and where, and m ark the m on th e appr opriate f loor p lan.

9 Preparation SETTING UP THE SYSTEM Your system co mes complete with the ala rm center and on e remote keypad. You must set u p the alarm ce nter befo re you add sensors an d ot he r com p on e nt s to the s yst em .
10 Preparation Choosing a Location for the Remote Keypad The remote keypad supplied with your a larm system le ts you arm and disarm the system, change the system’s operation, and see status inf ormation about the system. You can also purchase up to thre e additional keyp ads to use with your alarm system.

12 Installation Installation SYSTEM WIRING CONNECTIONS Many sensors come with instruct ions to help you install them. Follow the instructions (if pr ovided) with each sensor to install it in the loca tion you noted in your floo r plan. Then mount the ala rm center an d connect the se nsors and othe r security devices to it.
13 Installation Setting the Keypad’ s Address Note: If you connect only the supplied remo te keypad to the alarm center, you do not need to set the keypad’s address. If you conne ct remote keyp ad(s) other t han the supplied one, you must set the swit ches on the back of each keypad to assign it a unique address.
14 Installation • If you installed a normally-closed loop of sensors only in the Instant Zone, install a jumper only between T ermi- nals 2 and 3. • If you installed normally-closed loops of sensors both in the Instant an d Delayed Zones, do not connect an y jumpers.
15 Installation 2. Connect a test lamp t o T erminals 15 and 16 on t he alarm center . This lamp lets you see if the alarm siren and/or security strobe will work. Caution: Y ou must use a lamp that uses 12 volts and is rated at 1A or less. Usin g a lamp that does not m eet these specifications could damage t he alarm center or the lamp.
16 Operatio n T est the panic function of each installed remote keypad by holding down ENTER and CANCEL . The alarm center arms, ARMED blinks, and the lamp yo u connected to T erminals 15 and 16 (alar m siren and light) lights f or 4 minutes. 12. Disarm the alarm system by entering 1 2 3 4 , then hold down SETUP for 2 seconds.
17 Testing the System 2. Hold down SETUP on the keypad until ARMED and READY slowly flash. 3. Within 30 seconds, enter the current passw ord. If you entered th e correc t pass word, ARMED and READY flash quickly . 4. Enter a new password. ARME D and READY turn off.
18 Testing the System T ESTING THE SIREN AND/OR LIGHTS Important: Always notify local authorities, your neighb ors, and other peop le in your hom e or office bef ore you test your alarm system. In some areas, testin g any part of yo ur alarm system might be considere d a f alse alarm, which might b e i l- legal in your area.
