11 OPERA TION CA UTION: Always stop tractor com- plete ly , as described above, before lea v- ing the operator's position; to empty grass catcher , etc. T O USE THRO TTLE CONTROL (See Fig. 7) Alwa ys operate engine at full throttle. • Operating engine at less than full throttle reduces the batter y charging rate.
12 OPERA TION LO W POSITION T O OPERA TE MO WER (See Fig. 9) Y our tractor is equipped with an operator presence sensing s witch. Any attempt by the oper ator to leav e the seat with the engine running and the attachment clutch engaged will shut off the engine.
13 OPERA TION T O ST ART ENGINE (See Fig. 6) When star ting the engine for the fi rst time or if the engine has run out of fuel, it will take e xtra cranking time to mov e fuel from the tank to the engine. • Be sure freewheel control is in the tr ansmission en gaged position.

16 MAINTENANCE TRA CT OR Alwa ys obser ve saf ety rules when performing any main- te nance. BRAKE OPERA TION If tractor requires more than six (6) f eet stopping distance at high speed in highest gear , then brak e must be adjusted. (See “TO ADJUST BRAKE” in the Ser vice and Ad just ments section of this manual).
17 MAINTENANCE CLEAN AIR SCREEN Air screen must be k ept free of dir t and chaff to pre vent engine dam age from overheating. Clean with a wire brush or compressed air to re move dirt and stubbor n dr ied gum fi bers. TRANSAXLE COOLING The transmission f an and cooling fi ns should be kept clean to assure proper cooling.
18 MAINTENANCE MUFFLER Inspect and replace corroded muffl er and spar k arrester (if equipped) as it could create a fi re hazard and/or dam- age. SP ARK PLUGS Replace spark plugs at the beginning of each mowing season or after e ver y 100 hours of operation, whiche ver occurs fi rst.
