Chapter 2 - Hardware Installation 2-4 Mounting the MGC-100 on a 23” Rack The MGC-100 can be mou nt ed to a 23” rack using the two mo unt ing plates that are pre-inst alled on the uni t. 1. Make su re that the MCU is t urned OFF and it is disconnected from the AC or DC power .
MGC Hardware and Installation Manual 2-5 6. Unscrew bo th MCU the side sc rews and remove both sid e plates. 7. From the inside of the MGC- 100, screw the moun ting brackets to both sides of the MCU, securing the screws in the mounted nuts.
Chapter 2 - Hardware Installation 2-6 8. Place the MCU in a 23” rack and while suppor ting it, screw the mo unting brackets to the rack securing it wi th bo lts and self -l ock in g nu ts. Mounting the MGC-100 on a 19” Rack The MGC-100 ca n be mounted in a 19” rack using th e mounting kit (P/N- KIT2026A).
MGC Hardware and Installation Manual 2-7 1. Check that all the part s are in the kit. The kit should contain the following items: 2. Make sure that the MCU power is turned OFF and it is disconnected from the AC and DC power . Remove the side covers as described on page 2-4.

While supporting th e M GC-100, place it on the 1 9” rack and screw the brackets to the rack, securing it with th e screws and nuts sup plied with the rack.

MGC Hardware and Installation Manual 2-15 T o connect the MGC-100 to the IP network: If an IP network Interface card i s installed in the MG C-100, connect the 8-pi n RJ-45 connector of th e LAN network cable to the LAN -323 RJ-45 jack on the rear panel of the MGC-100.
Chapter 2 - Hardware Installation 2-16 MPI-4/8 Hardware Inst a llation for the MGC-100 The MPI-4/8 (Multi Prot ocol Interface) Network Int erface card is inserted into the MGC -100 unit. The MPI box may be mounted on to p of the MGC-100 usin g mounting brackets, or on a separate 19” or 23 ” rack, as can be seen in Figu re 2-8.
MGC Hardware and Installation Manual 2-17 T o install the MP I- 4/8 Network Interface Module: 1. Slide the MPI-4/8 Net work Interface modu le into a free slot in the MGC front panel. 2. Push the MPI-4/8 Network Interface mo dule firmly into the B ackplane, making sure it is properly se ate d in its slot.

Using the cable provide d with the MPI kit, co nnect the 160-pi n connector to Port A of the MPI-8 Netw ork Interface front panel.

MGC Hardware and Installation Manual 2-23 Mounting the MGC-50 on a Rack The MGC-50 can b e mounted in a 19” rac k using two mounting plates (Kit 2012A). The side plates are usually mo unted when shipp ed, but if no t, follow the directio ns below to in stall the mo unt ed plates on the MGC-50 and then mount the MGC-50 on the 19” rack.
Chapter 2 - Hardware Installation 2-24 6. Once t he Main Control Module, the power su pply module and t he boards are removed, unscrew the side screws from inside the MGC-50, and then remove the plate from both MGC-50 sides.

From the inside of the MGC-50, screw the mounting bracke t to the side of the MGC-50, securin g the screws with the mount ed nuts.

Chapter 2 - Hardware Installation 2-32 MPI-8 Hardware Inst a llation for the MGC-50 The MPI-8 Network Interface card is inserted into the MGC-50. The MPI box is mount ed on a 19” rack together with the MG C-50, as can be seen in Figure 2-15.
MGC Hardware and Installation Manual 2-33 T o install the MPI-8 Ne twork Interface Module: 1. Slide th e MPI-8 Network Interface modu le into a free slot in the MCU front panel. 2. Push the MPI-8 Network Interface mo dule firmly into the B ackplane, making sure it is properly se ate d in its slot.
Chapter 2 - Hardware Installation 2-34 Using a second cable, connect the 16 0 -pin connector to Po rt B of the MPI-8 Network Interface fron t panel. Connect the other end of the cable to B (Ports 5-8) 1 60-pin connector of the MP I Box. By doing this procedure we have utili z ed the MPI Box as a MPI-8.

Chapter 4 - Hardware Description 4-2 MGC-100 Component s Location Figure 4-1 shows the front panel of the MGC-100. The fro nt panel provides access to the M ain Control Mo dule, the Func tional Modul es, and the Powe r Supply Modules.

I/O cards are inserted via the rear panel. In a ddition, the rear pane l houses the main power switc h, AC inlet, fans, the circuit breaker , additional communications ports and alarm ports.

Th e Power Supply Mo dule is located und erneath the Main Control Modu le and the Func tional Mo dules, and is connected by wire leading to t he backplane.
Chapter 4 - Hardware Description 4-10 Main Control Module The Main Contro l Module performs the functio ns of conference setup, conference teardown, and resource allo ca tion in both the M GC-100 and the MGC-50. The Main Control Module has an In tel-based Pentium processor, a hard disk drive and 256 MB of memory .

MGC Hardware and Installation Manual 4-17 Backplane The Backplane is based on the “ univers al slot” concept, where any card can be inserted in any slot. Therefore, di ffe re nt config urations are formed base d on the users’ port capacity and func tionality re qu iremen ts.
Chapter 4 - Hardware Description 4-18 In the MGC-50, the front of the Backpl an e contain s eight slot s for Functiona l Modules and an a dditional slot (Slot A) for the Mai n Control Module. The back of the Backplane also contains eight slots for I/O cards and one “dummy” slot.
MGC Hardware and Installation Manual 4-19 Information Highway The Informatio n Highway is a high capacity T DM-type bus. It is u sed by both the MGC-100 and the MG C-50.
Chapter 4 - Hardware Description 4-20 Power Supply Module Both MGC units (M GC-100 and MGC-50 ) operate at 100-240 vol ts AC 50/60 Hz. Power Module in the MGC-100 Up to three redundan t power supplies (N +1) provide backup for the system to ensure multip oi nt service is n ot interrupte d as a result of a ny single power supply failure.
MGC Hardware and Installation Manual 4-21 Power Module in the MGC-50 In the MGC-50, the Power Supply Module is not hot swappabl e. The power supply auto matically senses the AC input voltage . The capacities of the power supply mo dule are shown in T able 4-2, “MGC-50 Power supply module c apacity”.
Chapter 4 - Hardware Description 4-22 Fuse/Circuit Brea ker (AC Power) Currently , MGC-100 Control Units come eq uipped with a circu it breaker . Previous models on t he MG C-100 use one UL appro ved circuit breaker . The specifications of the fuse are shown in T able 4-3.
MGC Hardware and Installation Manual 4-23 Functional Modules The Functional Modu les (cards) perform the various audio, video, and data processing functio ns for the MGC unit. Both the MG C-10 0 and the MGC-50 use the same functional modules. The MGC-100 unit houses up to sixteen Fu nctional Modules, which can occupy slots 1 throug h 16 .
