Appliances that use more than 2800 W atts of combined power consumption should n ot be co nnected to this generator . 8 SAFETY Safety W arnings and Precautions Before and During Operation • Do not connect the generator to another power supply sou rce. • The engine become s extremely hot during and immediately after it has been in use. Be careful not to touch any parts of the hot engine, especially the muffler or muf fler co ver , or seriou s burns may result.

13 SAFETY Safety W arnings and Precautions Fire Safety • Exhaust system components are ve ry hot during and after use. Hot components can cause burns and fi re. Do not touch the hot exhaus t system components. Always keep combustible materials away from the exhaust sy stem.

17 CONTROLS AND FEA TURES Generator Component s: ITEM NOMENCLATURE DESCRIPTION H Ground T erminal Provides ground for non -conductive metal parts and receptacle ground terminal s. I 240V AC Receptacle Provide two connectio ns for properly rated, AC appliances.
18 CONTROLS AND FEA TURES Choke Knob By moving to the CLOSE position, the choke knob (A) provides proper starting mixture when the engine is cold. Operates by being placed in the OPEN or CLOSE position.
19 CONTROLS AND FEA TURES Fuel V alve Lever When the engine is well-cooled and not in use, the fuel valve (C) must be placed in the OFF position to reduce the possibility of fuel leakage.
20 CONTROLS AND FEA TURES DC Recept acle and Fuse The DC receptacle is protected from an overload with a fuse. If the DC circuit is overload ed, the 5 amp fuse (F1) will blow and power to the DC receptacle will cease. The red light on the DC panel will illuminate.
21 CONTROLS AND FEA TURES Ground T erminal Ground terminal (H) conn ects to the frame of the generator metal parts that do not conduct current, and grounds terminals of each receptacle.
22 FIRST USE INSTRUCTIONS Adding Engine Oil Failure to use the recommended 4-stroke engine oil may result in engine damage, see page 64 for recommended oil and capacity . 1. Place the generator on a flat, level surface. Open the servic e door . See page 46.
23 FIRST USE INSTRUCTIONS Fuel Recommendation POLARIS r ecommends the use of 9 1 octane fuel or higher . Do not use fuel containing more than 10% ethano l. Do not use fuel with lower than 91 octane rating. IMPORTANT: Operating the gen erator wi th an obstru cted fuel system will result in serious engine damage.
24 FIRST USE INSTRUCTIONS Adding Fuel 1. Remove the fuel tank cap (A). 2. Fill carefully to avoid spilling fuel on t he fuel tank strainer (B). Do not overfill the fuel tank (there should be no fuel above the upper limit mark). 3. T ighten fuel tank cap (A ) securely until it clicks.
25 FIRST USE INSTRUCTIONS Wheel Kit Inst allation The unit comes with the rubber mounting feet installed. If you wish to install the wheel kit, please perform the following procedure. 1. Axle assembly (1) 2. Locking swivel wheel (2) 3. Bolt M8X16 (4) 4.
26 PRE-OPERA TION INSPECTION Note: Always perform the recommended pre -operation inspections before each use. Always perform the inspections at the beginnin g of a project and when removing the generator from storage. Failure to perf orm the recommended pre-oper ation inspections could result in minor or moderate injury or property damage .
27 OPERA TION Safe Operating Precautions Fuel Recommendations The P3000iE engine is certified to opera te on regular unleaded petrol with a pump octane rating of 91 or higher . Never use stale or contaminated petrol or an oil /petrol mixture. A void getting dirt or water in the fuel tank.
28 OPERA TION Safe Operating Precautions Refueling 1. Remove the fuel tank cap (A). 2. Fill carefully to avoid spilling fuel or exceeding the bottom of the fuel tank strainer (B). 3. Securely tighten the fuel tank cap (A) until it clicks. 4. Move generator away from the fu eling source and site before starting the engine.
29 OPERA TION Safe Operating Precautions Before St arting the Engine 1. Ensure the generator is away from the fueling source. 2. The generator will vibrate during operation. Place the generator in a dry location and on a flat, level surface. 3. Unplug all power cords and extension cords from the generator .
30 OPERA TION Safe Operating Precautions St arting the Engine 6. T o start the generator using the ignition key , turn the ign ition switch to the ST AR T position. When the engine starts, release the key . Do not operate the starter for more then 10 second intervals.
31 OPERA TION Safe Operating Precautions St arting the Engine 10. If connecting loads to generator , reference “AC Operation” or “DC Operation” as outlined later in this Operation section. 1 1. Make sure to turn the AC switch to "ON" position.
32 OPERA TION Safe Operating Precautions AC Operation Before connecting a device or powe r cord to the generator , ensure it is in good condition. Faulty appl iances or power cords can create a p otential for electrical shock. If an appliance begins to operate abnorm ally , becomes slug gish, or suddenly stops, immediately shut it off.
33 OPERA TION Safe Operating Precautions AC Operation Note: Should this current be exceeded, the circuit protecti on device will activate and cut all current to the receptacle.
34 OPERA TION Safe Operating Precautions AC Cap acity Note: T ypical wattages are listed in the table below . Before plugging any device into the generator , verify the manufa cturer-listed wattage on the device.

36 OPERA TION Safe Operating Precautions DC Operation Connecting the Battery Charging Cable The DC charging output is not regulated. The DC recept acle should only be used for charging 12V DC batteries. The 12V DC rec ept acle has no battery overchar ge protection function.
37 OPERA TION Safe Operating Precautions DC Operation Connecting the Battery Charging Cable Do not st art the vehicle wh ile the battery charg ing cable is connecte d and the generator is running . The vehicle’ s charging system or the generator may be dam aged.
38 OPERA TION Safe Operating Precautions Air Conditioning Operation For best results, the SMAR T throttle switch should be in the off position. Bring the generator to a normal operating temperature before applying the air conditioning load. Always allow a 2 minute wait perio d when manually cycling an air co nditioner of f and on.
39 OPERA TION Safe Operating Precautions St andby Power Improper connec tion to a building electrica l system can allow c urrent from the generator to back feed into the utility lines. Such back feed may electrocute utility company workers or others who co nt act the line s during a power out age.
40 OPERA TION High Altitude Use Carburetor Modification When carburetor has been modified fo r high altitude operation, the air - fuel mixture will be too lean for lo w altitude use and may cause engine damage. At high altitude, the standard carburetor air -fuel mixture will be excessively rich.
41 OPERA TION Emission Control System Information Source of Emissions Exhaust gas contain s carbon monoxide, nitrous oxide (NOx), and hydrocarbons. It is very importan t to control the emissions of NOx and hydrocarbons as th ey are a major contributor to air pollution.
42 OPERA TION Emission Control System Information Problems Affecting Emissions If aware of any of the following, have the engine inspected and repaired by an authorized POLARIS supplier: • Hard star.
43 MAINTENANCE Import ance of Maintenance Good maintenance is essential for safe and economical operation. Proper maintenance will also help reduce air pollution. T o ensure the longevity of the gene rator , the following pages include a periodic maintenanc e schedule and inspection an d maintenance procedures.
44 MAINTENANCE Maintenance Safety Personal safety is critical when attempting to service the generato r . Improperly installed or adjusted components can make the generator unstable or dangerous. Improperly installed electrical components can cause engine or electrical systems failure.
45 MAINTENANCE Periodic Maintenance • Always stop the engine before servicing. Disconnect all devices and extension cords to avoid receiving an electrical shock. • Periodic checks and maintenance ar e very important for keeping the generator in good condition.
46 MAINTENANCE Opening the Service Door Use the following steps to open th e generator service door and gain access to the inner components. Befo re performing any maintenance, the ignition switch should be po sitioned to OFF . See page 19. Note: Use this procedure to open the se rvice door on either side of th e generator .
47 MAINTENANCE Opening the Service Door 4. Expose the generator inn er components by swing ing open the service door (D). Perform maintenance as needed.
48 MAINTENANCE Fuel System Fuel T ank Strainer 1. Remove the fuel tank cap ( A). 2. Remove the fuel tank strainer (B) from the fuel tank. 3. Remove any foreign objects o r de bris from the fuel tank strainer (B). 4. Inspect the fuel tank strainer (B) for damage.
49 MAINTENANCE Engine Oil Oil Recommendation Oil directly affects performance and service life. Use a 4-stroke automotive detergent oil, see page 64 for recommended oil. Other viscosities may be used when the applicable average temperature is within the recommended range.
50 MAINTENANCE Engine Oil Oil Change Oil may be hot. Do not allow hot oil to co me into contact w ith skin, as serious bur ns may result. Note: Drain the oil while the engine is warm to assure rapid and complete draining. 1. Star t the engine and allow it to run for a few minutes.
51 MAINTENANCE Engine Oil Oil Change Note: Improper disposal of engine oil can be harmful to the environment and is unlawful. Properly dispose of used oil. 6. Drain the used oil into a sealed container and take it to a recycling center . Do not discard the oil into a rubbish bin, dump it on the ground , or pour it down the drain.
52 MAINTENANCE Air Filters Air Filter Inspection Do not use petrol or low flash poin t solvents for cleaning. They a re flammable and explosive under certain conditions. Note: An obstructed air filter restricts air flow to the carburetor . T o prevent carburetor malfunction, regula rly se rvice the air filter .
53 MAINTENANCE Spar k P l ug Sp ark Plug Inspection and Replacement Using a non-recommended spark plug can result in serious en gine damage. Always use rec ommended spark plugs. Note: In order to service the spark plug, the provided spark plug wrench is required.
54 MAINTENANCE Spar k P l ug Sp ark Plug Inspection and Replacement 3. Clean any dirt from around the base of the spark plug. 4. Using the provided park plug wrench (B), remove the spark plug. 5. Inspect the electrode for wear and carbon buildup. Look for a sharp outer edge with no rounding or erosion of the electrode.
55 MAINTENANCE Battery Battery Safety Always disconnect the negative (black ) cable first when removing the battery . Always connect the negative (b lack) cable last during installation. Failure to prop erly connect/disconnect battery cables may result in an explosion and cause serio us injury or death.
56 MAINTENANCE Battery Battery Charging (Sealed Only) Note: This procedure applies only to the sealed battery (recommended). 1. Using a voltmeter or multi-meter , check the battery to ensure a minimum 12.8V DC or highe r . 2. If the voltage is less than 12.

Allow generator and exha ust to cool before performing spark arrestor maintenance. The spark arrester must be serviced every 100 hours to main t ain its efficienc y .
58 TRANSPORT A TION AND STORAGE T ransport ation T ransporting the Generator A hot engine or exhau st system can cause severe burn s and ignite flammable material. Ensure adequate time for cooling before storage or transportation. When operating or transporting the genera tor , be sure it is kept upright.
