1 I NTRODUCTION Thank you for choosing us as your scanner supplier. Your new scanner will improve the professionalism of your day - to -day co mputing tasks by allowing you to input images and electronic text into your computer system. You can easily scan single-sided or dou ble-sided documents with your scanne r.

5 T HE S CANNER O VERVIEW 1. PAPER CHUTE — Helps keep the pap er in place. Install the paper chute before using the scanner. 2. PAPER WIDTH SLIDER — Adjusts the paper width slider for the paper size you are using. 3. COVER OPEN LEVER — Opens the ADF cover.
6 7. WARNING LED — Indicates the scanne r error status. 8. POWER / POWER SAVING LED — Indicates the scanner status. 9. POWER SAVING BUTTON — Press about 1 second to enter the standby mode (s leep mode) and you may press this button again t o wake up the scanner from power saving.
7 14. USB PORT — Connects the scanner to a US B port on your computer by the included USB cable. 15. ETHERNET PORT 3 — Connec ts the scanner to a port on the Ethernet hub by the Ethernet cable. 16. POWER RECEPTOR — Connec ts the scanner to a stand ard AC power outle t by the included AC adapter.
8 LED I NDICATOR The Power/Power Saving LED and Warning LED indicate different sc anner status. Warning LED Light Power / Power Saving LED Light Status Off Blue The scanner is turned on, ready to scan images. Off Orange The scanner is in standby mode (s leep mode) if it is idle for 10 minutes.
9 C HAPTER I. I NSTALLING THE S CANNER Before in stalling your scanner, pleas e verify that you have all of the prope r components. A list of the package contents is provided in the “Box Contents” section of this guide.
10 If you don’t find such USB ports on your computer, then you need to purchase a certified USB interface card to add USB capabilities to your computer. I NSTALLING AND S ETTING UP THE S CANNER Please follow the step- by -step procedures descri bed bel ow to install the Plustek scanner.
11 S S t t e e p p 1 1 . . I I n n s s t t a a l l l l t t h h e e P P a a p p e e r r C C h h u u t t e e 1. Open the ADF cover by pulling the lever, and get the paper chute ready . 2. Install the paper chute by aligning and inse rting the tabs of the paper chute into their slots on the scanne r.

13 Using the Ethernet Cable to connect the Scanner and Your Computer (If y our scanner does not have the Ethernet port, please ski p this s tep.) Attention Please make sure the scanner is turned OFF before you plug or unplug the scanner power adapter .
14 5. Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable to an available port on the Ethernet hu b 6 . 6. Plug the end of another Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port on the computer. 7. Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable to an available port on the Etherne t hub .
15 4. For Windows XP: a. Insert the Setup/Application CD/DVD-ROM, incl uded with your scanner, in to your CD/DVD-ROM drive. b. Select Install the software automatically recommended and cl ick the Next button. c. Click the Next button in the window that appears.
16 7. For Windows 8: a. Insert the Setup/Application CD/DVD-ROM, included with your scanner, into your CD/DVD-ROM drive. Click on the pop-up notification, then click Ru n install.exe in the pop-up window. If you miss the pop-up notification, please eject and re-insert th e Setup/Application CD/DVD-ROM.
17 11. (If your scann er does not have the Ethernet port , please skip this Step.) Select the method to connec t the scanner and your computer. Using the USB cable to c onnect the scanner and your computer a. Select the USB Port Conne ction option . Follo w the on-sc reen instal lation instructions.
18 b. Follow the on-screen installation instruc tions . Please use the Scanner Search Tool to search avail able scanners and sele ct the desired scanner to be used, and then click Connect Device button to make co nnection.
19 Using the Ethernet cabl e to connect the scanner and your computer in a network environment with static IP alloca tion a. Select the Ethernet Port Connection option . Please make sure to u nplug the USB cable from the scanner when you c hoose this option .
20 d. Please se arch available scanners again and select the desired scanner ico n to be used, and then click Connect De vice button to make connection . e. After you make sure the Scanner Search Tool is working properly and the scanner connection status indicates Locally Connected , pleas e click the OK button to confirm the status.
21 2. Click the Windows Start button to launch Presto! BizCard . (For Windows 8 us ers: Point your mouse cursor to the upp er or lower right corner of your screen to open the Charm bar.
22 C HAPTER II. S CANNING Your scanner needs to be driven by certain type of software program. Since al l documents or images (whether text or pictures) that are acquired from the scanner are treated .
23 P REPARING D OCUMENTS Proper document preparation prior to the scan can prevent paper feed errors and damages to the scanner. Checking Document Conditions Loosening Documents C C h h e e c .
24 However, don ’ t use the ADF to scan documents if they meet any of the followin g conditions: Paper lighter than 50 g/m 2 (14 lb.) or heavier than 105 g/m 2 (28 lb.) Paper with clips or stapl es attached Paper with inconsistent th ickness, e.
25 P LACING D OCUMENTS 1. Load the documents face down toward the ce nter of the ADF paper chute and all the way into the ADF until touching the bottom. For single-si ded scans, load the documents face down so that the side to be scanned faces towar ds the paper chute.
26 Attention DO NOT load more than 100 sheets of paper (70 g/m 2 , 18 l b.) to the ADF. Paper scanned from the ADF must be a minimum of 5.08 x 5.08 cm (2 ” x 2 ” , W x L). Make sure there are no gaps between the document stack and the paper -width slid er ; otherwise, the sc anned images can be skewed.
27 P LACING P LASTIC C ARDS The plastic card can be emboss ed credit card, driver license, ID card, insurance card, medic -care card or any membership card. Make sure to load the embosse d face of the embossed ca rd face up into the scanner. Please remove the pad module before you load the plastic card.
28 4. Vertically load the plastic card, headfirst and face up , toward the center of the ADF. For single-sided scans, load the card face up . For double -sided scans, load the card in desired order. 5. Adjust the paper widt h slider to the ca rd width.

This program acts as an in terface between the scanner hardware and the image- editing software you are using to view and edit images.
30 4. Adjust the scanning settings. For ADF (Duplex) scan, you can tailor settings individually for front and rear sides of the documents. Click Front Side button to adjust the scanning settings of document front side and then click Rear Side button to adjust the scanning settings of document rear side.
31 Scan within New Soft Presto! BizCard: 1. Click on the Windows Start button, point to All Programs > Presto! BizCard and then click Presto! BizCard to launch the business card recognition software. (For Windows 8 users : P oint your mouse cursor to the upper or lower right corner of your sc reen to open the Charm bar.
32 Scan from the Scan ner Buttons 1. Place the document or images onto the scanner. (Refer to “ Chapter II. Scanning ” of the Scanner User ’ s Guide for more information in placing paper into the ADF properly.) 2. Check current button setti ngs by viewing the memo l abel or the Button Configuration window.
33 View Button Settings There are three ways to view the button setti ngs: Double-click the icon in the Windows system tray . Right-click the icon in the Windows system tray, and then choos e Button Configuration… in the pop -up menu that opens.
34 C HAPTER II I. C ARE AND M AINTENANCE Your sc anner is designed to be maintenanc e- free. However, co nstant care and maintenance can keep your sca nner working smoothly.
35 C C l l e e a a n n i i n n g g t t h h e e A A D D F F 1. Open the ADF cover by pulling the lever. 2. Gently wipe the fol lowing areas with the cloth dampened with the cleaner . B e careful NOT to scratch their s urfaces. Clean Feed Roller: Wipe the Fee d Roller from side to side and then rotate it.
36 Clean ADF Glass: Attention Do not sp ray cl eaner directly onto the scanner glass. Excess li quid residue may fog or damage the scanner. 3. Wait for cleaned areas to dry completely. 4. Close the ADF cover by pushing it back down until it snaps back into place.

Remove the pad module by pinching both sides of the pad module and pull it out. 3. Install the new pad module by inserting the tabs on the module onto their slots on the scanner.

Remove the paper chute by pinchi ng both sides of the handles on the paper chute to remove it. 3. Remove the feed roller by pinching both sides of the feed roller and pull it out.
39 4. Install the new feed roller by aligning and inserting the feed roller onto the rolle r pitman on the scanner. 5. Install the paper chute by aligning and inserting the tabs of the paper chute in to their slots on the scanne r. 6. Close the ADF cover by pushing it back do wn until it snaps back into place.
40 C ALIBRATING THE S CANNER Calibrate the sc anner if colors appear in areas that should be white, or colors of the scanned image and the original vary a lot. This allows you to adjust and compensate for variations that can o ccur in the optical component over time by its nature.
41 P OWER S AVE To save power cons umption, when the scanning process is finished, the sc anner light source will turn itsel f off and the scanner will enter a lower -power mode without delay time. Information The scanner will enter the standby mode (s leep mode) after it is idle for 10 minutes.

43 C LEARING P APER J AMS If a paper jam in the ADF happens, please perform the f ollowing steps: 1. Remove any unjammed documents still load ed into the ADF. 2. Open the ADF cover by pulling the cover open lever. 3. Gently but firmly pull the jammed documents out of the ADF.
