8 Headband A ssembly The he adset can be ro tated for wearing on t he left o r right ear . NOTE Before installing the headband, remove the eartip and earloop from the headset. 1 Hold the h eadband so it is aligned to re ceive the heads et as shown and inse rt th e headset into the headband.
9 Position Y our Headset When you w ear the headse t, the micro phone should res t as close to your che ek as possible witho ut touching. Th e microphone can be adjus ted inward by the pivo ting earpiece to optimize the po sition of the heads et. 1 Slide the heads et over and be hind your ear and fit the ear tip into your ear .
10 C on nect Y ou r Desk Phone Thi s section de scri bes ho w to c on nect the b ase t o yo ur d esk p hone. Connec t the Power Plug one end of th e power supply into the p ower jack on the back of t he base and the ot her end into a work ing power ou tlet.
11 Co nnect an d Co nfig ur e Y our Des k Phon e There are three setup options for connecting the CS540 to your desk phone. Select one of the following and continue.
12 Chec k C onfi gu rati on a nd Ma k e a T est Cal l 1 If your desk phone has a volume control set it to mid-range. 2 Look at the bottom panel of your base and make sure the default settings are correct.
13 Desk P hone pl u s HL 10 Li fter ( sol d sepa rat ely ) NOTE First follo w the steps above for D esk Phone (Standard) . 1 Firmly press the handset lifter power cord into the handset lifter jack. USE 2 While wearing your headset, slide the handset lifter arm under the handset until the lifter base touches the side of the phone.
14 If Y ou Do Not Hear a Dial T one 1 If you do not hear a dial tone, raise the lifter height switch to the next highest position. 2 Repeat steps 2 through 5 above as necessary until you hear a dial tone. 3 When you hear a dial tone, secure the lifter as described in steps 6 though 8.

19 Out of R a nge W a rni ng T one s If you are on a call and go ou t of the opera ting range, yo u will hear three low ton es. Y ou will hear a single mid tone w hen you are back in rang e. If you stay ou t of range, an ac tive call will be suspende d.
20 Base Ph one Button a nd S wi tc hes 1 Subscription But ton The he adset and base t hat came in the box are subscr ibed (c onnec ted) to each other. However , if you wish to use a n ew headset or n eed to res tore subscription to yo ur current headse t, the units c an be subscribed to e ach other by the follow ing two me thods.
21 2 Wideband/Na rrowband Aud io Switc h The CS540 has wid eband audio, which allow s speech to so und clearer and more natur al. If your desk phon e is capable of wideband audio, s et the Wide band-Narro wband audio switch to yellow for wide band. NOTE: T alk time wil l be reduced when o perating in w ideband m ode.
22 Pl ac e an Ou tgo in g Cal l 1 Wearing your headse t, pres s the headse t call control but ton. 2 Remove th e handset from th e cradle. Y ou will hear a dial tone. NOTE This step will be automatic if you install a lifter or EHS cable accessory. For a complete list of accessories, visit plantronics.
23 Headse t My headset is unstable. When you wear the headset, the microphone should rest as close to your cheek as possible without touching. The microphone can be adjusted inward by pivoting the earpiece to optimize the position of the headset. See Position your headset .
