10 ENGLISH PREP ARING FOR USE Machine Packaging The original packaging has been designed and constructed to protect the machine during transport. W e recommend keeping the packaging material for possible future transport. Machine Installation 1 Remove the machine from the packaging .
11 ENGLISH 11 8 Slowly pour the co ee beans into the co ee bean hopper. Note: Do not pour too many co ee beans into the co ee bean hopper as this will reduce the grinding performance of the machine. Caution: Only co ee beans must be put into the co ee bean hopper .
12 ENGLISH 12 Switch the pow er button to “I” . The " " button ashes. 13 T o turn on the machine, simply press the " " button.
13 ENGLISH 13 3 Thereafter , the machine warms up; the “ ” and “ ” buttons ash simultaneously . Automatic Rinse/Self-Cleaning Cy cle When the warm-up phase has been completed, the machine automatically per forms a rinse/self-cleaning cycle of the internal circuits with fresh water .
14 ENGLISH Manual Rinse Cy cle During this process, the c o ee brewing cycle is activated and fresh water ows through the water cir cuit. This takes a few minut es. 1 Place a container under the co ee dispensing spout. 2 Check that the " ", " ", “ ” and " " butt ons are shining steadily .
15 ENGLISH 15 5 Press the “ ” button to star t dispensing hot water . The butt on ashes during dispensing. 6 Dispense all the remaining water . The “ ” light shines steadily . Note: If you want to interrupt the manual rinse cycle (for example to empty the container), press the “ ” button; to resume press the “ ” button again.
16 ENGLISH Measuring and Progr amming W ater Hardness W ater hardness measuring is very important in order to de ne the descal- ing frequency and to install the “INTENZA+” water lter (for more details on the water lter , see next chapter).
17 ENGLISH 17 “INTENZA+” W ater Filter Installation W e recommend you to install the “INTENZA+” water lter as this prevents limescale build-up in your machine and preserves a more intense ar oma of your co ee. The “INTENZA+” water lter can be purchased separately .
18 ENGLISH 4 Put the “INTENZA+” water lter into the empty water tank . Press it down until it cannot move an y further . 5 Fill the wat er tank with fresh water and put it into the machine. 6 Check that the " ", " ", “ ” and " " buttons are shining steadily .
19 ENGLISH 19 ADJUSTMENTS The machine allows f or certain adjustments so that you can brew the best tasting co ee possible. Saeco Adapting S ystem Co ee is a natural product and its characteristics may change according to its origin, blend and roast.
20 ENGLISH 2 While the machine grinds co ee, press and turn the grinder adjust- ment knob placed inside the co ee bean hopper one notch at a time. Use the special co ee grinder adjustment key supplied. Y ou will taste the di erence after brewing 2-3 cups of co ee.
21 ENGLISH 21 The recommended positions ar e: F or the use of small cups; F or the use of large cups. T wo cups can also be placed under the co ee dispensing spout to brew two cups of espresso or two cups of long co ee at the same time.
22 ENGLISH Adjusting the C o ee Length The machine allows y ou to adjust the amount of brewed co ee according to your taste and the size of y our cups. Each time the “ ” or “ ” button is pressed, the machine br ews a pre-set amount of co ee.
23 ENGLISH 23 BREWING ESPRESSO AND C OFFEE Before br ewing co ee, make sure that there are no warnings shown on the control panel, and that the wat er tank and co ee bean hopper are lled. The " ", " ", “ ” and " " buttons are shining steadily .
24 ENGLISH FRO THING MILK / BREWING CAPPUC CINO Fr othing milk W arning: Danger of scalding! Dispensing may be prec eded by small jets of hot water . The Classic Milk F rother may reach high temper atures. Ne ver touch it with bare hands. U se the appropriate protective handle only .
25 ENGLISH 25 6 Fr oth milk by gently swirling the container and moving it up and down. 7 Press the “ ” button to stop dispensing steam. Note: It will take a few seconds before the machine st ops dispensing steam completely . Note: Steam dispensing stops after 3 minutes.
26 ENGLISH HO T W A TER DISPENSING W arning: Danger of scalding! Dispensing may be prec eded by small jets of hot water . Use the appropriate protective handle only . Before dispensing hot water , make sure that the machine is ready to use and the water tank is lled.
27 ENGLISH 27 CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE Daily Cleaning of the Machine Caution: Timely cleaning and maintenanc e of your machine is v ery impor tant as it prolongs the life of y our machine.
28 ENGLISH 4 Inser t the co ee grounds drawer back into the drip tray and place the drip tray back into the machine. Daily Cleaning of the W ater T ank 1 Remove the small white lter or the “INTENZA+” water lter (if in- stalled) from the water tank and wash it with fresh wat er .
29 ENGLISH 29 Daily Cleaning of the Classic Milk Frother F or hygienic r easons and to ensure a perfect milk froth consistency, it is important that you clean the Classic Milk Frother after each use. After frothing milk, a small quantity of hot water must be dispensed into a container .
30 ENGLISH 2 Remove the upper part of the Classic Milk Frother from the st eam/hot water wand. 3 W ash the upper part of the Classic M ilk Frother with fr esh water . 4 Clean the steam/hot water wand of the Classic Milk Fr other with a wet cloth to remov e milk residues.
31 ENGLISH 31 5 Clean the co ee outlet duc t thoroughly with a spoon handle or with another round-tipped kitchen utensil. 7 Thoroughly wash the brew g roup with fresh, lukewarm water and car e - fully clean the upper lter . Caution: Do not use detergent or soap to clean the brew gr oup .
32 ENGLISH 10 Make sure that the brew gr oup is in the o position; the two refer ence marks must match. If they do no match, proceed as described in step (11). 11 Gently pull down the lever until it is in contact with the brew gr oup base and the two refer ence marks on the side of the brew gr oup match.
33 ENGLISH 33 16 Inser t the co ee grounds drawer with the drip tray back into the ma- chine and close the service door . 15 Inser t the brew group back into its seat until it locks int o place without pressing the “PUSH” button. 14 Inser t the co ee residues drawer in its seat and ensure that it is cor- rectly in place.
34 ENGLISH Monthly Lubrication of the Br ew Group Lubricate the br ew group after appro ximately 500 cups of co ee or once a month. The grease to lubricat e the brew group can be pur chased separately . F or further details, please refer to the maintenance pr oducts page in this user manual.
35 ENGLISH 35 3 Inser t the brew group into its seat until it locks int o place (see the “Weekly Cleaning of the Brew Group ” chapter). 4 Inser t the co ee grounds drawer into the drip tray , then inser t both back into the machine and close the service door .
36 ENGLISH DESCALING When the "CAL C CLEAN" button shines steadily , you need to descale the machine. The descaling cycle takes approx. 30 minutes . Caution: Not doing this will ultimately make y our machine stop working properly . In this case, repair is NO T cov ered by warr anty .
37 ENGLISH 37 2 Remove the Classic Milk F rother from the steam/hot water wand . 3 Remove the water tank and the “INTENZA+” water lter from the water tank (if it was installed), replacing it with the small white original one . 4 Pour all the descaling solution int o the water tank.
38 ENGLISH 8 The " " light shines steadily . The machine will star t dispensing the descaling solution at regular intervals for appro ximately 20 minutes. Note: The descaling cycle may be paused by pressing the “ ” button . This allows y ou to empty the container or to leave the machine unattended for a short time.
39 ENGLISH 39 14 At the end of the rinse cycle, the " " button turns o . 13 The “ ” light shines steadily . When the " " button ashes, press it to start the rinse c ycle. Note: The rinse cycle may be paused by pressing the “ ” button.
40 ENGLISH 16 Empty the container used. 17 Empty the drip tray and place it back. 19 Put back the Classic Milk Fr other . 18 Remove the small white lter and place back the “INTENZA+” water lter into the water tank if it was installed. Rinse the water tank and ll it with fresh water up to the M AX level.

42 ENGLISH INTERRUPTION OF THE DESCALING CY CLE Once you hav e started the descaling c ycle, you must c omplete it till the very end without turning o the machine. In case you get stuck during the descaling procedure , you can exit by un- plugging the power cor d.
43 ENGLISH 43 5 Empty the drip tray and place it back. 6 Empty the container and place it back. 7 Press the “ ” button to dispense 500 ml of water . The “ ” button ashes. 8 T o stop dispensing water , press the “ ” button. Empty the container .
44 ENGLISH 10 Press the “ ” button to brew a co ee. 11 Repeat steps 9 – 10; then continue with step 12. 12 Empty the container . The machine is r eady for use. Note: if the “ ” orange light does not turn o , you still have to descale your machine at your earliest conv enience.

51 ENGLISH 51 ENERGY SA VING Stand-by The Saeco fully automatic espresso c o ee machine is designed for energy saving, as pr oven by the Class A ener gy label. After 30 minutes of inactivity, the machine turns o automatically. If a product has been brewed, the machine performs a rinse cycle.
