1 Chapter 1 Introduction Overview The KL9108 and KL9116 Dual Rail LCD KVM Switches are control unit s that allow secure access to multiple co mputers from a single KVM (keyboard, video, and mouse), console. A single KL9108 or KL91 16 can cont rol up to 8 or 16 computers, respectively.

21 Chapter 3 Basic Operation Opening the Console The KL9108 / KL9116's console consists of two mod ules: an LCD displ ay module located under the top cover; and a keyboard/t ouchpad module below the LCD module. The modules can either slide together, or indepen dently.

31 Chapter 4 Administration Overview The OSD's Administration page lets the Administ rator (and u sers with administration permission - see User Manageme nt , page 42) configure an d control the overall operat ions of the KL9108 / KL9116. The Adm inistration tab is disabled (grayed out) for users who do not have administrat ion permission.

Chapter 4. Administration 33 The Main Page The Main page governs port access. Sel ecting a port and double-clicking it switches you to the dev ice on that port. A monitor icon is in front of the port number . Th e monitor icon is green for ports that have devices connect ed to them that are powered on; otherwise, it is gray .

This field allows the Administra tor to create, modify, or delete port names. To configure a port nam e: 1. Click once on the port you want to edit, wait one second and then click again.

The maximum number of characters allowed for a Port Name is 19. Y ou can use all letters, numbers, and sy mb ols on the t ypewriter k eys of keyboards with PC US English layout.

The KL9108 / KL9116 stores a separate configuration record for each user prof ile, and sets up the work ing configuration according to the Username that is used to log in.

Since the C t rl key combin ation may conflict with programs r unning on the computers, the default is the Scroll Lock combination.

KL9108 / KL9116 User Manual 42 User Management The User Management dialog box is used to create and manage user profiles. Up to 64 user profiles can be established. T o delete a user profile, select it in the list box, and Click Remove . T o modify a user profile, select it and Click Edit .

Administration 45 Service Configuration Access Port As a security measure, if a firewall is being used, the Admi nistrator can specify the port numbers that the firewall will allow, and set the firewall accordingly. Users must specify the port number wh en they log in to the K L9108 / KL9116.
KL9108 / KL9116 User Manual 46 Log Server Important transactions that occur on the KL9108 / KL9116, such as logins and internal status messages, are kept in an automatically generated log file. In this panel, you specify the MAC address and a port number for the computer that the Log Server resides on.
Chapter 4. Administration 47 Network The Network dialog is used to specify the KL9108 / KL9116's network environment. Network T ransfer Rate Set the rate at which the KL910 8 / KL9116 transfers data to remote computers. The range is from 8 to 99999 Kilobyt es per second (KBps).

63 Chapter 5 Browser Operation Overview An On Screen Display (OSD) interf ace governs KL9108 / KL9116 computer control and switching operations. The OS D can be accessed remotely with a Windows-based client or a Java-based client. You must log in via an Internet browser to connect to the KL9108 / KL9116 and to invo ke the OSD.

By default, messages are posted to all users. T o post a message to one individual user , select the user's name before sending your message.

The KL9108 / KL9116 provides the following hotkey features: Auto Scanning Skip Mode Switching The hotkeys are: A and P for Auto Scanning; and the Arrow Keys for Skip Mode.
